thank you for the information. a much needed close up and detailed installation. very informative. you would prevent new BBSHD folks from dealing future issues.
Hello Roy, I have TWO questions for you: 1) What would be the minimalist Bafang mid drive build to turn a manual bike into an ebike? I ask this because I am not a big fan of too many wires sticking around the bike frame as I see them time and again in installation videos. Can I do a simple build with just a mid drive motor and a thumb (or twist) throttle? I assume that the throttle is the only key element needed to control the motor. I could care less about the LCD display, the speed, or changing the power of the motor as the gears change especially as I ride on the highest gear no matter what the terrain! 2) Is it a good idea to build ebike on a single-speed bike that can coast? Having no gear derailleur would further simplify my ebike especially when I do not use the gears anyway. The less is actually more and simpler! Please advise.
Great vid , now i made one of these and stuck it on a rock hopper, BUT when you pull the motor in an up position then tighten does the motor not drop back down again? With mine it did and started eating the frame, the only thing I could think of to keep it there was metal epoxy which worked 100%, but i would rather a bracket if there was such a thing.
Roy are these shims readily available as I didn't get any with my kit. My bottom bracket is 73mm, I'm assuming I've enough room to fit them if needed. (based in Oz)
They came in the kit I bought from Lunacycle. Mine is 68mm maybe 73mm does not need the shims? Thanks for watching and good luck with your build. I think the BBSHD is a terrific kit.
Will a drive crank, like that on a tandem captains left, have clearance from the motor? I want to install on a tandem and do not wish to give up any gearing on the stokers end of things. I know I will give up the eccentrics adjustability but I can fabricate a tensioning pulley for the timing chain..
Hi Roy, I notice you have the 68mm drive unit, did your frame have the 68mm bottom bracket or 73mm, seems there is a 68mm, 100mm and 120mm bbshd available but not 73mm? I’m wondering does the 68mm fit the 73mm frames just fine? There seems to be some wiggly room with those shims.

Just bought a Luna Cyclone 3000w kit. Just try to find a downloadable PDF assembly file on their site, spent 45 minutes looking. Tempted to send back, there's no excuse for this level of stupidity..
Forget about that silly little wrench. Purchase bbshd sockets and use a torque wrench to mount the motor on the bottom bracket.. otherwise, I promise you it will get loose.
@@royprince8575 I paid about $100 CAD to get the 2 sockets from EMpowered Cycles Electric Bike Co. Prior to buying the sockets, I resorted to using California eBike’s stabilizer bar and hose ring, but even then, the hose ring broke on me after a year of usage.
@@johna1439 hose clamps made recently from China are not as well made as old ones we used to buy here. I happened to find one in my garage that must be over 40 years old made in either Canada or USA. This is one of the best videos on how to install it
Thank you. As I look back at this video, after 3 something years, I still feel good about it. Does the job.
this video is the best I seen so far on installing these mid drives! thanks. Everything is in focus!
Thanks!

Thank you!
Great Video with clear dialog and photography
Thanks!
wow awesome bike with a step by step installation.. thank you!
Nice video it really shows the quality of the BBSHD.
Very helpful; I have the BBSO2 kit, and assume the assembly issues are the same? My crank assembly on a Specialized Stumpjumper is 73 mm.
Yes, the same installation process.

Where do you get the battery protection?
I see you got the 68mm BBSHD. What is the width of your actual bottom bracket?
68mm

You need the Heavy Duty Bafang Stabilizer Bar - BSBHD-1. These should come with every one of these motors!

Not sure what you mean about "star"?

I agree.

this motor would be perfect if only they had included a torque sensor. what on earth were bafang thinking
Thanks....
I do not believe You can tight lock ring well with this tool.
I used the Bafang sockets for the final tightening.
