    do this with breathable waders! I doubt the results would be the same as neoprene is naturally buoyant....would be great to see the difference!

    Awesome video man! I'm getting into kayak duck hunting and this has been on my mind. People tell me to leave my neoprene waders unstrapped to easily remove them in the water, but I'm going to leave them strapped up now! And I'm getting a wading belt. Thanks man, you might literally save a life with this video!

    So I found you guys from a duck taxidermy video. I’ve been nervous about trying to put up a Teal. Very informative video explaining the process, I’m much less scared. Well about this video. Two days ago I just recounted a story to my friend about when I was young I asked my grandpa if I could use his waders to go duck hunting and he said ABSOLUTELY Not I’d drown if I went into deep water. I’ve always been overly cautious about hunting in waders ever since. I feel like a “jack wagon” for not trying this myself. Thanks for the videos. Keep it up! Also that’s a “DANDY” of a logo on your new hats.

      Decent back flip in that getup, huh.
      One can drown, regardless of how they are dressed. Think how many drown in the bathtub, many boating drownings happen at the boat dock/launch. I once worked a drowning in a roadside ditch. Neoprene waders provide some flotation, but are not a substitute for a PFD. If you travel in waters over 1 inch deep, you can drown. The thing to do if you step in a hole, back up, you know the depth of the water behind you. When wading unknown water, slow is safest, no long strides.
      It takes very little extra weight to make you sink, any SCUBA diver can tell you that. Water inside one's boots adds no weight "in" the water, but the weight of clothing and gear(🎵pocket full of shells🎵) subtracts from your buoyancy once it is wet and no longer buoyant itself.
      Have fun and live to tell about it.😉

    I lost my footing while steelhead fishing wearing breathable chest waders. They filled up so quick because I was facing up current (springtime when the runoff current is strong) on my belly in the river. Somehow I managed to cling on to a rock and a branch even though my body felt like it was 400 lbs. If I would have lost my grip then I would have been sent into a log jam. I feel blessed to have gotten out of there and I am for sure going to get some better fitting waders, and a strap for my mid section like someone mentioned in one of your other videos. Stay safe!

  • @jlinke1508
    @jlinke1508 5 лет назад

    Just came across this video and wanted to put out a word of warning that this is NOT always the case with neoprene waders, as some have pointed out in other comments. Because you entered the water so quickly, the pressure of the water suctioned the wader material to your legs before water got down to your feet. This can happen but will not always happen, depending on a large variety of factors: falling upstream in a river, loosely fit waders creating a fold in the material for air to escape and water to enter, etc. I'd love to see a test where you fill the waders with water and then get in the deep end, maybe next summer along with the breathable wader test? Also, did you clarify if they were 3mm or 5mm waders in the video? The thicker the wader, the more buoyancy they will provide, which is another critical factor. Thanks for the video!

    • @MidValleyMercenaries
      @MidValleyMercenaries  5 лет назад

      Agree with everything you said. We’re def gonna do another one this summer and more detail info for neo and breathables. It was 3.5 mm. I flipped in my kayak on the river in looser neoprene waders and it saved my bacon. Kept me afloat. How long would it keep me afloat I don’t know but didn’t wanna find out

    You missed the fact that every year people die in waders because you might float when theres no water in the bottom half but the second it starts to fill you will not float. Ive seen people fishing in rivers having to unbuckle and swim out of there waders because there being dragged under. My buddys old roommate was wearing a lifejacket in a river that requires pfds at all times and slipped in some current and into deep water the life jacket was being pulled under with him. He only lived because a strap released due to the counteracting forces and he was able to come to the surface with the lifejacket. Even in water thats not moving it is not by any means safe to tell people they will float because if there waders dont squeeze them tight or are not a size too small they will fill with water and they will pull you under 9/10 times.

    “You not gonna drown” is bad statement out there ,the density in pool water and flowing water is very different .wading actually in river means flowing water you tripped once means it’s hard to stand in toe again . Wade is you can get in water body without getting wet and save you from freezing,hypothermia etc .Tips: never wade a water if you don’t feel safe,wading water at least two people or more than two will save and help each other.wade is not life saver but just keep you dry if you use properly( not like you won’t drown) it’s miss leading. I usually use wade stick to wade a new water or with friends near by,I am 165 pounds man and I always has my floating carbon quick pull life jacket that can handle 300 lb =my weight+ water inside wade if I get drown.use the product what it made for don’t assume what it not supposed to be.you will live only once . there are very small mistakes which you can’t realize but your loved ones 😭can .be safe wade out there.

    What I’ve always been told is beach fishing with waders is dangerous. If you fall from an undertow the outgoing current will treat your waders like a parachute and drag you out on the beach floor, possibly drowning you.

  • @RndomFX

    The problem clearly isnt when you are in the water. once you are in the water, you are as buoyant as you normally would be in the water. i mean you are n water, you are not going to be in 'more' water just because you have waders on. the issue is as you showed when you try to get out/when you try to jump up back on top of your kayak/etc. at that point you are then carrying the extra weight of the water that went into your waders with you at 8.3 lbs/gallon, and it impedes you being able to lift yourself back onto the kayak or pull yourself up. 5 gallons would be a extra 40+ lbs of weight.

    But you need to make it Clear to your subscribers that the most important part to wearing waders is a tight fit. Without a proper fit they will leak and lead to a person drawing.

      Yeah, I live in SoCal so I'll be getting breathable uninsulated waders. I know in the ocean I feel the buoyancy of the neoprene for sure!
