Imagine if this were a category 3? Who the hell is running this city?

It was Sylvester Turner the previous mayor.... this is what he left for the new one....get it yet?

We don’t need to be arrested- we need power 😒
The jails have power
@@Rikkisio that’s understandable
Cause they focused getting power back to the rich neighborhoods first so they need cops to the poors
@@firefox1294 got a point
Oh yes we do. My husband’s truck was broken into and thousands of power tools were stolen that Monday morning during the hurricane. Another truck and car were broken into as well that day at 4 am. Those thugs wake up when hard working men go to sleep. During the police report the cop told me the crooks only steal when cops aren’t around, had there been more police officers nearby they wouldn’t be smashing windows left and right. Super fun going to the mechanic on a Tuesday during the chaos. The lot was full of people trying to repair their broken windows. Such a shame. Can’t get a job to save their life and don’t care about getting hurt and going out in the middle of a hurricane. All to steal someone’s living to get by until the next theft. Great role models. Model citizens. If they’re unemployed and have kids they even get food on the taxpayer’s dime. Despicable.
We should probably send utility workers to help Center Point rather than send cops from Dallas.
Deploy the national guard if they need security help…
Agreed. Someone should ask Oncor for some personnel help with restoring electricity.
Lol, we can't have civil unrest, or people upset about the power being out
Makes no sense…they do the dumbest things
i like in bowie county Texas, up northeast Texas...my power company sent 20 linemen and 8 trucks...but they not working because centerpoint wants to haggle over what they going to pay them
The Guard is there.
We need electricity not police. Send linemen and electricians.
houston needs both
They sent the linemen and they sat waiting on orders. Oh the tales they will tell once they get there about how a ss backward this place is! 😂
@@XJ9sodypop I guess you're right 👍
I knew this was gonna happen. CenterPointe was dragging their feet and I don’t mean the workers, I’m talking about the leadership and this weak electrical infrastructure. If you have to convert a stadium into a medical center it’s really bad.
Again, welcome to Abbott-land. Is he even in the state, or has he and Cruz flown off to Mexico?

Center point holds the grid only until first disaster, over and over power outages happening in the summer, but also in the winter.
This can't happen every single time we have a severe weather event in Houston...not during a very active hurricane season.
I could barely sleep with 2 days without power. I don't know how people did it back in the century 😮

@@garywoods6649 state is paying for the cops that are going, centerpoint doesn't want to pay for the lineman that are coming to help....that not state, thats all on centerpoint
Result of Texas deregulation policies! Cause and effect! Deregulation = unreliable power!!!!
I believe Centerpoint is not able to take care of so many customers. The government should be considering not allowing them to handle the power lines for so many customers. The government should only allow one company to take care of small portions of the power lines. Shouldn't the Houston mayor and government take responsibility too?
I agree. Centerpoint (private co.) profited $7.6 Billion from their customers last year. And for some unknown reason, they fail to have an efficient strategy to take care of their customers. Something is deeply wrong here.
Yes, they should, but there are too many sweetheart deals to be made between your politicians and power companies. Texan's keep voting in the corrupt pickpocket politicians because of their misguided Texas pride. Let everyone else in the country know when you stop playing the corruption game. Then you might gain some sympathy and support for your self imposed situation.
Shaking my head yes we need power but we also need these idiot drivers off the road that can’t do a simple stop sign
It was a category 1 and Houston is suffering like a category 3 hurricane just hit them. I can’t even imagine what a category 3 or 4 will do to this city.
It's the deterioration of the electrical grid, mainly due to lax maintenance by centerpoint, the local power infrastructure manager. Back then only the big storms like Rita, Ike, and Harvey caused widespread outages. Now it seems any freeze or strong wind can knock out power in Houston.
Remember that the number of people they said are without power are actually the number of electric meters and not people. More than 1 person can be in the same house. So the actual number of people without power is way more.
Wrong. That is the total population of the areas without power

100 officers for a city of 4 million😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They just came for strip clubs and barbecue that they’ll write off as work expenses

A big joke!! 😂
It's 100 _extra_ officers. Houston is still using their existing officers. Houston employs about 5000 officers, and Harris county about 4000. That's 100 more officers available to respond to calls or provide help, or even to do traffic duty in place of HPD and HCSO officers freeing them up for more critical things.

We need officers to stop the violent crime that will increase from rising opportunities due to power outages
You also need to send Abbott packing.
POPO are preventing the line workers from fixing the down lines, so how does this affect you unless you're out there looting at night.
And this was only a Cat 1
Lol

How about sending more linemen?
This sounds like HPD theater, we could use National Guard, not cops.
Threres 20,000 of them. They staffed up going to South Texas where the idiots and the weather news said it was going to hit...then they had to chase it to Houston....400 miles away. Figure it out.

Sometimes category ones are more problematic because with its low strength it turns into a tropical storm and sit longer on a spot causing flooding.

they worded it carefully but they needed cops to help deal with crime, not medical
Do you think criminals might be likely to target areas with no lights at night? Maybe they shouldn't worry about that and let the residents be robbed and murdered.

It is absurd that one electric company is allowed to service any city or community. They are not held accountable and repeatedly fail to provide proper restoration for the electricity when a heavy storm hits. Something needs to be done to change this. Hospitals without power, people sweltering, freezing and dying in their homes or elsewhere because profit over safety rules. I pray those that know what to do will act.
The authorities don’t know how to manage anything. Thinking in little compartmental boxes. Never pro-active.

Can they work the power? Cause as of 9:31 pm central we still without it.
Thank you!!!!
Will dallas PD actually come to he scene of a crime in less than 4 hours? Thats my average response time from harris county sheriffs office
Same as Dallas. We have a massive shortage of police and it been for the last 5 years. A lot more time for anyone to show up to defend and protect law abiding citizens. 2nd amendment is all we got but the justice system and officials here are liberal and soft on crime and criminal. Something has to change.
@@GettingthruLifethere is no shortage of police in Dallas. They just prioritize revenue whoring to actual public service.
@Don-mi6zl You have no clue. I have lived here 50+ years. I clearly know things you ignore don't follow what's going on. Police shortages nearly everywhere as cities and states defunded the police and stopped supporting them. Many long-term police retired early or quit. It's well documented recruiting is way down and departments are having hard times hiring new officers. Crime in Dallas now is off the charts and homelessness has taken over. Turned into awful places and a lot less safe.
Why in the Sam Hill do we need cops?
My power didn’t go out for Ike or Harvey but went out with Beryl even before the storm kicked in 🤦♂️
