Great video, I have a J185, had for 30 years or so. plays really well, beautiful looking guitar. Love the show keep up the good work. Cheers from England.
I really enjoyed watching Caleb play his song on the guitar at the end this project. There is no denying the genuine pride of accomplishment shining through that instrument, measured not by a yardstick, but by the size of his smile :) Keep rockin those videos Caleb!
Rosa String Works tackles projects that set other repair persons running. And Caleb is experiencing his baptism by fire. Way to go, Caleb. Many small attentive steps. How do you eat an entire whale? . . . a tiny bite at a time.
Caleb you are not only learning to focus on the details. But you are learning techniques, errors and procedures from others. Smart man. You are truly interested in learning your craft and it's showing. Keep it up. Might want to start planning a new shop sign for future. 😁
Jerry...Caleb is a keeper. He is so talented. Amazing Video. I also liked your comment with using the yardstick that he took out of there to measure his progress.
That old girl hasn't sounded that good in decades, IF EVER. Really good work, there, Caleb. The customer will be very pleased, I'm sure. You've come a long way in a short time, keep it up, you'll be a great repairman. Next, on to BUILDING!
Good job with the tedious job of removing all that glue mess that was the result of a sloppy attempt of trying to hold the guitar together years ago. Thanks to your efforts this guitar should now play better than it has in a long time.. It's great to see a young man like you take the time to do the repair the correct way instead of just going for the fast "fix".
This is my favorite Caleb video so far. How good is his fret removal skill? He took the guitar back to the moment it stopped being a fine instrument. Amazing effort and a wonderful result for the customer. Watch those fingertips young fella, you're pretty good at playing those old guitars.
Caleb, it just seems like you make HUGE leaps of progress from video to video, and that you've been doing all of this for way longer than you actually have! It's an honor to watch your knowledge keep developing and learn from you as well. Keep up the great work!
I am not a person to compliment or flatter anyone, but it feels right to observe that, separate to the excellent woodwork, the actual address to the audience is good enough for this chap to have an independent channel people would watch, better than most luthier videos I saw. PS - is it bad that I watch this channel on double speed, to correct the leisurely way y'all speak?
They are both lucky to find each other. Caleb, to learn from a master and his experience and teachings and Jerry, to find a young talented guy who wants to learn the arts of the trade. Caleb will have an income for the rest of his life with little competition. Young folks today, just use their thumbs not their brains. Caleb is one in a million. That was a good job on that Gibson.
Good job buddy, and you didn't even need Jerrys help. Now the boss knows you can do this stuff ,freeing up on his valuable time. Which means you'll be getting more of these repairs . Good for you. 👍🎸
Woah!!!!! Atta boy, Caleb!!!!! I'm sure Jerry is mighty pleased. Excellent job, especially getting that back binding off in one piece. Just goes to show the mettle of Caleb and the patience he is blessed with.
Amazing job Caleb well done on a great repair, you have let this50s guitar sing again, better than when it left the factory. Sounds great. Cheers. Andy.
Hi Caleb. What a great job that you have done on this "sick" Gibson of old! A different presentation style but you manage to keep your work interesting for this bunch of old guys! Thanks to both of you it goes on being great entertainment.
Real nice job and so nice to see a decent young person to find a calling to the craft. I so wish to have got involved with a shop like that 30 years back.
32:00 Following this advice from a comment was a smart thing to do! The whole video here is a wonderful thing to watch, but this improvement takes the cake.
hope that was my comment in the other video that helped!!!!! about "the cheters neck reset". I wrote that sometimes is the only posible choice to reset the neck! regards from Argentina!!!! love the work you do caleb
Caleb, you have really shown us your skills with this project. Your patience and light touch on this restoration made for a rewarding viewing experience for all of us. Jerry, you picked a winner :)
I admire the patience that you and Jerry have. I think it's one of your best qualities. I watch your videos, in hopes of gaining some more patience, myself. Thanks for sharing your experiences. 👍😎🎸🎶
Good work Caleb. Tip: use/hold your fret end nipper under the bench when clipping fret tangs so the nubs you cut off go on the floor and not buried in the carpet on top. Ditto string cutoffs and and other metal. It only takes one of those razor sharp cruds to ruin your day when working on the next finished instrument yields a big scratch or gouge in the finish. Even shaking/vacuuming the carpet won’t get all of them. Ask me how I know this 😂.
Yup Caleb has the one talent that you absolutely need for this job and that is patience. Well done. You are going to have a bright future in instrument building and repair.
Caleb. Great job. You're advancing at an enormous rate. Apprenticing with a master luthier will do that. Keep up the good work. My best to you and Jerry.
I can see why delegating that project to Caleb made sense, wow what a mess that was with the glue, bravo on a great job! I learn so much from all your videos and have started to buy and repair a few old guitars myself thanks to what I have learned! Thanks for all you both do !
Glad you playedit also Caleb as that complements the customers playing and show a balanced full sound. Your perserverance and patience are a credit to your character - shows what it takes to be a restorer / repairer ! Interested to see what you've learned about looking after the tools you use - so important to doing a great job. Well done !
Congratulations, Caleb, you turned a dead instrument into a fine sounding box. Considering the lack of original glue, on all the braces, and the tiny, thin, bridge plate, I strongly suspect it sounds better than it did new.
You amaze me with the talent you have for working with these broken down instruments. You revive the soul and preserve the character. You resurrect the dry bones til they sing and dance for joy!
Great job Caleb. I envision you with your own shop in the not to distant future. It’s great to have a mentor as skilled as Jerry to guide you. The days of apprenticeship are long over. It’s wonderful that Jerry provided the opportunity to resurrect this way of transferring knowledge from one generation to the next.
He won't just have his own shop one day, he'll have his own apprentice(s) - that's how fine crafts stay alive and grow. And those apprentices will sand their fingertips too :) Over its lifetime any craftsmans workshop accumulates enough blood for an episode of CSI. If a job's worth doing it's worth a small blood sacrifice to appease the old guys ....
Goodness Mr Caleb, if every task you worked on this big Gibson was a step along the way then you walked a mile for that sweet tone! Well worth it to stay the course. I know the world appreciates yourself.
You are doing great Caleb. You have come such a long way since first starting out. Real proud to watch your progress. Ou are learning from he absolute best! You will go far!
I want a guitar built by this young man in bout 10 years ... That is , of course if it can be bought for less than a down payment for a house I mean . Great job , Man !!! Very Impressive . EDIT : Once I caught the very end .... Sounds great , Dude !!! Once again , Great job !!!
Jerry, I'll bet you're proud to have Caleb as your apprentice. I have seen previous repair jobs he has done but he really knocked it out of the park with the Gibson 185. What a mess that guitar was in but when he tore into it he made it all happen and it sounds beautiful. Old Gibsons never die, they just sound better when a guy like Caleb gets his hands on it!
Good one Caleb. You've come a long way under the tutelage of Jerry. Even when Jerry is away for the day, it doesn't dissuade you. Keep up the fine work, young grasshopper.
Caleb is turning out to be a fine apprentice
Jerry - keep this young one... he's real gold! Well done, Caleb.
i know nothing about a guitar, but enjoyed watching the young man pay attention to detail when repairing this guitar
Isn't it wonderful to see a new generation taking over from us old fogies. It makes this old fogey pleased with some of the world we are passing on.
It made my day that you tried out my suggestion for the neck angle. Big smile on my face.
This assures us we still have someone capable of quality work on our stringed instruments. Thanks for you sharing your wisdom.
Nice work Caleb!
It's good to know that Jerry's expertise will be preserved for the generations to come.
Great video, I have a J185, had for 30 years or so. plays really well, beautiful looking guitar. Love the show keep up the good work. Cheers from England.
I play a J-185 -- mine is only 20 years old -- so it was nice to see this ol' boy get a bit of life back. Nice job, Caleb.
I really enjoyed watching Caleb play his song on the guitar at the end this project. There is no denying the genuine pride of accomplishment shining through that instrument, measured not by a yardstick, but by the size of his smile :) Keep rockin those videos Caleb!
I've been watching Jerry for around 3 years now, this is by far one of the very best in Caleb...Nice job
Very well done. That poor guitar really needed love. I'm amazed you're already taking on jobs this difficult. Bravo Caleb.

Great job Caleb! I can tell you've been soaking up Jerry's instructions. Whether it's you or or Jerry I still enjoy watching.
That old girl hasn't sounded that good in decades, IF EVER. Really good work, there, Caleb. The customer will be very pleased, I'm sure. You've come a long way in a short time, keep it up, you'll be a great repairman. Next, on to BUILDING!
Looks like Jerry's at work with younger hands .
Hats of to you young man
