    Wow a pretty long flight, I have done DXB-SYD and return (with a week ¨layover¨) in real time, I fly the first 2 or 3 hours, then go to bed and take over again 1 or 2 hrs before arrival.
    And like you say, a great sense of achievement when you touch down without any problems.

    Matt I am glad you made this video. I was set to do a Flight last night from LAX to Fiji and I had my fixes in as well and like you said I had a huge FPS drop. I could not figure out why it was happening. I just gave up after doing all the planning. I even tried to continue with the flight but, my fps was so bad that I was yawing thing plane to stay on the center line and my FS lagged so bad I ended up on 25L while departing from 25R. I now know what the issue was thanks to you!

    A very interesting video, Matt - even though I'm not a massive fan of long-haul normally. But I always enjoy hearing the VatSim interactions and that stuff about ETOPS sounded good, too . Might even use it if I do a transatlantic from my home in Florida to my original home in England as I start to get back into simming after being mostly absent from it for a couple of months or so with some (now hopefully resolved) health issues. Incidentally, the TOM1VB Worldflight stream has been brilliant as always.

    I fly this loooonnnng route often as I live in Oz but my dear old mother lives in Vancouver. I must have done it half a dozen times now. But soon, I'll be able to go straight from Brisbane (where I live) to YVR on the new 787 Dreamliner. That will do away with the extra YBBN-YSSY leg, which amounts to 4 or 5 hours all told.

    +Matt Davies Your ASN was doing just fine on arrival! the -23C is the fuel temp!! Cold soaked after a 14+ hour segment, perfectly normal. Below 10K the TAT temp is a good indication of OAT, otherwise you can always look at the SAT temp which is closest to OAT on PROG page 2. Cheers, and keep em coming!

    Hey Matt, great video! Just to let you know when you mentioned about 34L or 34R landings, both runways are used for landing and takeoffs, although 34R is often used more for domestic and light aircraft takeoffs/landings.

    Absolutely stunning video Matt. Fantastic effort as well considering it was such a long flight. Nice to have the vatsim in there too. Thoroughly enjoyed that. The little speeded up taxi with the simcity esk music amused me too.
    Just one question. Why were you routed OVER the airport before turning into the circuit? I really don't know but I would've thought the director would've routed you out over the sea and then turned you into base leg?

    • @drugt3rs
      @drugt3rs 8 лет назад +1

      +Matt Davies Because Sydney Has parallel runways 34L and 34R we take you over the airport so you don't cut across 34R when landing 34L and is also why you were told to stay at 6,000 when passing over the airport. :) ML-BIK_CTR

    Matt. First off.. Great as always Mate. Here's something else.. My parents Flew to Australia via HongKong. They said the flight goes Toronto - Hongkong Direct Over the top (Up and down the other side lol) Then got a Flight from Hong Kong To Brisbane. Don't want to Keep the Toronto Theme going but shit, it's only 50 miles from here.. :) Although Air France from Rio to Paris Seems like a great idea also.. :) You rock!

  • @captain_john_d
    @captain_john_d 8 лет назад

    Nice to see you back in Australia Matt! Just to answer a few things you weren't sure about - 34L and 34R are both used as arriving and departing runways. 34R is used for pretty much all regional flights (Dash 8s, Saab 340s etc) and quite a few domestics (B738s, A320s, some A330s) and sometimes a few international flights, mostly just B738s and A320s to New Zealand. 34L is the main runway that handles anything 'heavy', like 777s, 747s, A380s etc. If required it does get used for anything regional or domestic that won't fit on 34R.
    I hope that makes sense!
    Obviously when the wind is the other way around, 16R is the main runway and 16L is used for the regional and domestic traffic.
    07 and 25 are only used when the crosswind on 16/34 is too high. Because there's only one cross runway you get lengthy delays when that happens.
    It's also pretty common for it to be windy and gusty in Sydney.

    I can't believe how far Flight Sim has come. I started out on the C64 back in the 80s. I packed it in after buying FSX and it kept crashing! Then MS dropped it and left us in the lurch. I have recently come back into it after coming across some of your You Tube vids Matt. I was looking to see if there was a fix for FSX .It looks like Steam has the answer. Great stuff keep it up.

    I think he sent you via Papa is because taxiway width restrictions, all three years I've spotted at the Domestic Departures Observation Area, never seen anything larger than a 767 going down Juliet right next to the terminal. 747, 777, 787, 330, 340 all get sent to Papa regardless of the direction of flight (RWY 26 or 08).

    1:12:40 - They did actually use the -300ER for a a while on ACA033. Captured it in my Sydney Spotting video. Think they've gone back to -200LR for now. I like both so it's a treat seeing it arrive every now and then.
    And on another note, when you turned to intercept the ILS for 34L, you pointed out the temperature indicated on the EICAS as -23 degrees. That was the temperature of the fuel, not the TAT which was indicating +21 degrees in the top left hand corner. Think you might have just been tired after a 15 hour flight.

    If you want, there are guides on ETOPS in the PMDG T7. Also the Just planes video of this route/flight tells a lot about ETOPS on this flight. Some small things like the rings for the ETOPS in the FMC should be set to 60 minutes or about 435NM because after 60 mins you enter ETOPS. There is much more to learn if you like. No criticism just trying to help you learn if you want.

    I believe the 300ER operates this route during the Northern Hemisphere's winter and the Southern Hemisphere's summer and the 200LR operates this route the other way around. I do know for sure the 300ER has operated this flight before though.
