Matt Davies turban otter for a flot plane
ASA uses their older 737-400 combi aircraft for their southeast Alaska service now that all the airports are paved/cement surfaced. Numbers of passengers in most seasons are limited and demand for cargo significant. Before that 737-200 aircraft with a shield on the nose wheel and probes in front of the engines to prevent damage from stones. They also had terrific short field capability for under 5000 feet such as Dutch Harbor (4700 feet) in the Aleutians now subcontracted to Penair in Saab 340s combi.
Juneau is famous for frequent rain and fog and perilous approaches over terrain, but a new ILS approach system like CAT 3 was installed and now reliability is much better, but literally you are right down to roll out on the runway before anything is visible! Ketchikan airport is on separate island opposite the city and passengers take a short ferry across. The Congressional delegation had secured Federal funding for a bridge several miles to the south which must be high enough to allow cruise ships to pass under. When the project became public it was ridiculed as the famous "Bridge to Nowhere" and voted down.
Flights in and out of Dutch Harbor are quite exciting where there are large seafood processing plants (King Crab). At one time they used Stratocrusers (B377) and DC-6s to fly in and out of hard packed sand beaches to bring in Salmon to markets. At Ketchikan
quite a few Dehaviland single engine Otters and Beavers some now with PT-6s fly sightseeing float plane flights from the harbor for cruise passengers. Accidents are not uncommon when ceilings are frequently low and they take chances. Roads are virtually non existant in SE Alaska. One border American community completely cut off by land adjacent t o BC Canadian community with a good deal of back and forth for stuff not available on the other side. Only Canadian Customs facility where formalities are minimal and wildlife passes as it pleases, such as a bear who took on the only official and an American with a rifle came to his rescue!

Barton to Jersey in the PC12 would be great. We had one in from Jersey a few weeks ago and it departed to Bournemouth. It only used around 400m to land and takeoff.

I like the idea of the social aspect of flying. I think it will be more entertaining when people have a laugh and not take flight sim to seriously.

If you want a good floater, then you already have the twin otter, along with the amphibious version as well. Great vid and definitely show some space stuff.
Great landing matt! You can inhibit the gpws by using one of the guard switches under the fo's ND!
ive just flew this route and used the same tactic and, obviously it wasnt as perfect as yours but it really helps and works haha well done by the way !!!!:)
I totally agree with you on the releasing of unfinished products. Caranedo TBM 850 is faaaaaar from a completed project but they sell it as if it were a finished project. The avionics need the most attention. It is so bad it remains in a hanger after two flights only until they fix it. I bought the PC12 from them too. That, noy without issue, wad a more compleye product. Was very upset about the TBM....Well said Matt...

Hey Matt, you should try a flight from Juneau to Sitka. The airstrip in Sitka is very challenging. It's short and surrounded by water. I have been a passenger on that flight and even as a passenger its a little scary.
VERY nice! You should fly a route to Antalya in Turkey once! It's got a very nice approach where you fly very near mountains like in this approach.

You have the Twin Otter. That has floats. Aerosoft Beaver isn't a bad float plane.

hey Matt how about Antananarivo to Antsiranana aka Diego Suarez. Air Madagascar had a 737 500 on this route which has an interesting 360 degree descent into Diego. Then maybe Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son or Pai. Both short flights. Nok Air have a C208B and a. ATR72 afaik
Hi Matt love the vids :), With regards to the flot plane you should try and find some good Maldives scenery and fly the twin otter (with floats) to some of the small island resorts there like Trans Maldivan do, that would be fun to watch :) thanks for all the videos never cease to entertain me...thanks :)
Nice video, Matt. Too bad you don't plan to do more flying in Alaska. Many opportunities for those wonderful scenic rides we all enjoy, especially in a GA-type aircraft. Cruising around and enjoying the scenery in a commercial jet, however, is not my idea of a good time. But that's just me. Try the same trip in the GA of your choice, a float plane, if you wish (I agree with the suggestion to get an Aerosoft Twin Otter)--it's a much better ride, IMO. And you can make that same approach routinely in a GA aircraft, with or without TrackIR. Been there, done that.
Matt, post the las Vegas flight please :) also I'm not keen on the other sims but I suppose if you get lots of folk asking then go for it. Keep up the good work with fsx!

Great video as always, Just as a suggestion, the new Hamad Intl from Taxi2Gate... Doha's new airport,,, its quite the looker... maybe a FlyDubai 737, or a Qatar Airways 320? plus Flytampas Dubai is only about an hour away. Once again, thanks for the awesome vid!

Answering your 'what shall I do?' question, I suggest you carry on streaming flight sim only (FSX, Prepar3d, XPlane) but record whatever you want for RUclips videos.

It is different
Have some DVDs of Real world floatplanes in Canada, they seem to be Beavers, Cessna 172s for private or commercial float aircraft are Twin Otters, be good to have seen your approach from anoutside view, but being a non sim player just a wxtcher :) you know best, enjoy your flights a lot

lars8102816 Multiple variations exist: skis, floats, and good ol' tundra wheels. And of course just regular gear.
I don't get, you people, who changed these sounds which are recorded from real aircraft to unrealistic ones... Just my opinion, if you like it, then It's ok.

Why don't u invest in navigraph's cloud chart service? I realize it comes at a cost, but it's well worth it. Plus...it seems u try to fly by the book....and this will certainly help you achieve that success.

If you look on Avsim forum and search for NGX Soundpack there is a post by a guy called KHShox he has a download link for the sounds , pretty sure that is the soundpack that Matt uses.
