I love how Ethan makes me shift from a hopeless mindset to a "wait... I can try this, and it's ok if I suck!" perspective. His reverse psychology works pretty well on me lmao I'm really grateful for that.
'sometimes i feel like there's a man inside of me.. wait. sometimes i feel like there's multiple men INSIDE me.' - Inspirational Quotes by Ethan Becker
You make it so much easier for me to recognise my mistakes as someone whose self teaching! Appreciate ya, and all the dudes you gotta fight with inside bahaha
A ridiculously helpful bootcamp where Ethan simultaneously kicked my confidence to the curb and then built me back up to 9000 all while calling me nasty
Sometimes I miss the Ethan that has a knife mic and a broken cig in his mouth and yells at me for being bad and stupid. This nicer Ethan's roasts hit so much harder.
Really glad to see ya uploading yet again recently Ethan. Your one of the artists I look up to. Since you've been uploading again. You gotten my inspiration to practice up on my drawing skills yet again after tackling on painting for a year now. Thanks for being inspirational Ethan.
I always like how your videos have this tone like you're a bully in an afterschool special trying to peerpressure us into trying drugs, but you're just aggressively teaching us art 😂
i've been struggling trying to add backgrounds to my art and this video really helped me realize a lot of things that I could do to make sure I don't let myself get blocked when I reach this part of the process. thank you
For me learning from Ethan Becker is the definition of "aim for the moon and you'll land among the stars" As a student there's a lot of things that I have yet to get a grasp on, but thanks to him I am able to do much better than I did, let's say, a week ago. It's amazing!
One thing I really appreciate about your content is that not only are you teaching really solid fundamentals and habits, but your commentary is so funny on several levels; the kind of self-deprecating character you sometimes affect has for me the same kind of vibes as the "you suck at photoshop" series, really shows off how thoughtful you are in your approach to teaching. Very good stuff; I hope you continue to produce content like this for as long as you enjoy doing it.
Actually, that was really helpful! I usually tend to do my backgrounds first before rendering the character though so that I can get the lighting down pretty well. Unless it’s a portrait painting or study, of course, for which blurring the BG seems about right 😂
36 years with eye problems and dyscalculia, trying to invent, to imagine something that my brain doesn't recognize like depths, crying in front of my not-straight-lines, AAAALL THAT SUFFER just to watch George Michael stealing backgrounds and adding just filters and "contact shadows"... I don't even know who I am 😂😂😂😂 big hug from Argentina!
Question, how did you deal with dyscalculia? I've been struggling with it for years and I've never exactly got told how to live with it so I'm really unsure of what to do.
@@Loaf_B well... first, I think that I acepted that I can't understand numbers. But just a few times I can really do simple things! So my learning process is not lineal, for me, dealing with it is not like going through a stairway: it's more like being walking inside a laberynth. Plus, school system was not prepared to teach people with this kind of cognition so, for example, I felt very lonely and guilty for not to give my all on maths... But then I grew up and I understood that is perfectly natural being good at some stuff and being bat at other things... I think I'm good on painting (at least, I enjoy arts). You are not supose to be a 100 pts on eeeeeverything. In fact we can fail, we can scratch our face on the ground just to get up again and develope creativity to solve some questions... but we don't need to know all the answers, who could resist such a responsability? In my case, With less Rocks on my bag, allowing me to "not understand everything" I just started to draw some perspective drawings, it's been a couple of years without doing that kind of works, and it feels good! Not incredibly pleasant but hey! It's drawing! I'm thanked that I can draw a hall or a library! It's not %100 exactly but who cares? Enjoy the way without being focused on the final. Oh! One more thing: when you go looking for a job, may be the best for you those kind of jobs wich doesn't need to manipulate big amounts of numbers. But if you don't find exactly that kind of job, it is also good to tell the employer about your kind of relationship with logical hypothetical deductive process and numbers. It's needed to be clear that you are not having bad intentions on writing a number for another one. Your employer trust on you is the most important item because that person will be, in the best case, who support you and understands on your journey. I recommend you a movie from Amir Khan, it name is something like Taare Zamen Par. It's about a boy who has this particularity.
I have dyslexia AND severe dyscalculia and I never knew my inability to understand perspective had anything to do with my problems with depth and perspective. I'm glad I watched this video, because Ethan has a way of beingmotivating and encouraging while being brutal and abrasive. But I'm just as appreciative of your comment so that I learned something more of my disability and not only am I not alone but I'm not the only artist that struggles with this. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤️
@@TheRougeRogue Hey I have dyslexia too!!! You know, I think that may the people who "thinks different" finds different ways to solve problems... we use to suffer not answering challenges like others and that angust stops ourselves from creating, and we must know that make the ilusion of dephts on a 1D paper it's a big deal!!! So how would we swim into that illusion? That's the point. For example I love colors. I think about light and how atmosphere changes the colors of the things, the grass, the houses, skin, the mountains, etc.. so, when something is far away from us, it turns blue. "Ok: far away=blue".... also, when something is far away, is smaller. "Ok: far away= blue and small" hahaha... and I didn't think about numbers, I just think something about values and if I could or not see details.... it's hard to compose with eye problems but we must know that in fact there's a way, we different way to solve. And it's time about to get that insight, singularity of creativity. And enjoying the ride!
@@natirubi524 Thanks that really helpful. It's been so hard all these years, I just focused on designing things in a one point perspective if at all.
