    Ive watched lots of Tomaz's videos since starting tennis in my late 40s. Theres a lot of tennis tuition competition online but what sets Tomaz apart is the quiet, calm and coherent way he puts his videos together. No hysterics, no zingy graphics, no shouty instruction. Just really insightful, applicable lessons. Top work, Tomaz, keep it up

    Easily the best tennis instructor on RUclips. Tomaz has a unique gift of connecting the biomechanics of a tennis shot with the feel in the mind visualization and body synchronization. Thank you Tomaz for illustrating the basics.

    great clarification; the tennis coaches talk about the weight-transfer but they can not explain nor show it, so it is a blurry topic and finally, you take this on and are showing us what the weight transfer visually looks like; great visual image

    Most coaches don’t address this important part of the stroke. Well done.

    Well done. I start players out with this exact teaching very early because the synchronization of the legs and swing is crucial. The weight transfer in amateurs tends to be choppy and violent to where it throws the swing plane off and causes inconsistency and when they begin compensating by slowing their swings down, they get zero power and begin playing scared.

    Hey Tomaz from Feel Tennis. Thank you so much for all your tips and advice. I've only been playing for 2 years (a year really considering lockdowns) and your fundementals have made playing so much more enjoyable. People are even asking me for advice, I just tell them what you told me haha. Thank you so much.

    Hey Tomaz - as you put it, the right way to hit the ball is 'compress and roll'. I have a good understanding of what 'brushing' feels like, and what 'hitting' (like a baseball bat) feels like. Does 'compress and roll' feel similar to one of those more then the other?
    When I've tried 'rolling' the ball into the ground like you have demonstrated in your videos, I instinctually brush the ball.
    Is there some metric I could attempt to replicate to tell me if I get a certain result, that is the feeling I should try to ingrain?
    For example, on the rolling the ball into the ground drill, would the result of having the ball bounce over the net after the first bounce be a good sign? Or having it bounce multiple times before hitting the next?
    Thank you so much for your content!

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  3 года назад +2

      Hi Dakota, compress & roll is an exaggerated idea to help someone not only spin / brush the ball put also also engage / put body weight behind the shot. These are just mental images, ideas to work on. In reality the contact with the ball lasts 0.005 of a second and there is no time for rolling. ;)
      So you need to accelerate the idea of compress & roll 10x or even more to get to something realistic as you hit the ball.
      The difference in terms of feel is that when you hit the ball with compress & roll the contact feels more solid compared to just brushing.
      By "brushing" you are going past the ball and just partially hitting it. The result is that it spins but it has NO PACE!
      By visualizing some compressing you hit the ball more fully while still spinning it so now your spins have more pace, more power.

    Very interesting.
    Pelvis going up and down while swinging is one of the fundamentals i guess? Once it gets ingrained, it will be always done subconsciously? And as an open skill game as tennis, sometimes we will use this move 100%, sometimes, only 50% and sometimes 5-7% depending on the situation on the court and the ball we are receiving?

    Great video as always. I'd love to know your thoughts on hitting against the wall. Do you think it's a valuable tool for developing tennis players? If so, are there particularly drills or approaches you find most useful?

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  3 года назад

      Yes, but you need to be aware of two approaches: if you work on technique, meaning correcting yourself, you need more time so you need to let the ball bounce twice! If you just want to work on movement, consistency, accuracy, you can let the ball bounce once. Hitting against the wall is fine as a part of training but not as a majority since it doesn't give you feedback of the ball flight. You don't know the right speed and height of hitting if you don't see the depth of your shots.

      @@feeltennis Merry Christmas Tomaz and Happy New Year! My question is about position of bladebone during swing that I read in scientific research in tennis. In forhand in the most backward arm position right bladebode must touch backbone. In backhand - left bladebone must touch backbone. What do you think about this ideas? Research is fundamental enough, but I asked 2 coaches about it and they both said that it is rubbish, But I thinkthat this ideas are about reference (control) points. Regards. Igor.

      @Igor Aleksandrov Happy Holidays to you too! I have not heard of such instruction yet but if I try to feel that myself then on the forehand side my blade bone does not reach backbone in the maximum backswing position. I feel that more on the one handed backhand even though I am swinging with right arm. So my left arm's blade bone does reach the backbone...
