So, cool! You are not the only one with the "discovery" of something new!!! Last week, furi3ng a conversation with hubby, I thought, I discovered a new word. I am 65 and have been a writer my whole life, so a new word is it.....or so I thought. Nope, already in the dictionary. I have never heard or used it. I still do not have any idea where I got the idea. No, no patent for either of us.but a little chuckle. LOL Thanks for making my day.
Having worked with foam core, I’d like to share one of my favorite tricks for building with foam core: One can purchase sturdy, strong, steel straight pins, size about 17. (They are not silk pins or other fine sewing pins.) The pins are used a bit like screws or nails when attaching one piece to another, push or tap a pin into the corner joint to stabilize it. I did them about every six to 12 inches. Hot glue can then be used to reinforce the joint. Your best friends are a metal square or straight edge and lots of fresh, sharp utility blades. Beveled cuts are also often useful.
Well, you might not be the first person to think of this project, but you're the first person I'VE seen, so for that I thank you.👍🏻 It never would have occurred to me.
Ok, you are an angel from God! I have been looking for craft shelves that I can afford AND that are light enough for me to move AND that are narrow. You hit a triple home run with this! I am disabled and live in a mother-in-law suite by my daughter. So, I don't have much room and basically sleep in a craft room, but, that's another gift from God. Thank you, thank you, thank you! (May not have been yours originally but you did the work and posted it today) 💕
Good morning my friend, and thank you for all that you do here. So I made the paper storage project, and I admit even for me, a middle school support staff paraprofessional, gave me a run for my money mainly with the cuts. But I did get it done. It helped to organize my work at home space. And when were able to return and go back to class rooms, I will be taking it back to my class with me. Thank you so much😍🥰
I'm reorganizing now and without searching your video popped up. This is much needed and new to me tooo!!(a year and 5 months after you posted, lol) Thank you soooo much!!
I love comparing everyone’s different DIY’s because no two are the same. There are always different color options or SOMETHING that is significantly different. Thanks for sharing. I really love the way you have organized all of your supplies/things behind you.

Hi, pretty lady...ty for posting....Yes, no worries there are plenty of times when more than just one single person gets the same inspiration especially with the wonderfully creative people we associate with, everyone has there little twist when the develope the idea or not. That is the beauty of being in an artsy community and God bless you for taking the time to share and give instruction for those of us that are not building inclined or just do not have the time to make videos. I respect you so much and thanks clutter fairy, your a big help.
The best idea I have gotten for decluttering was from you! You said to put like things together!!! That one quote has helped me the most. When I see all of the same things together I find that it is so much easier to get rid of things that I have multiples of. I just wanted to thank you !!!!
You are the first person I have seen who uses foam core for building these kinds of things. Never thought it would be sturdy enough. Will definitely be making a shelf for my 8-1/2 by 11 and my 12x12. Thanks for sharing any way and not thinking there were probably enough videos already.
This is adorable! And very creative. Just because a bunch of other people had the same idea doesn't make it any less yours. Sadly, I am very rough on my storage units and tend to overload them until the delicate ones break, so I'll ask hubby to help me make one out of plywood (he loves building stuff).
I made something like this several years ago and I needed it to be a little sturdier. Instead of just gluing in the shelves I made the sides wider apart by twice the width of the foam board. Then I cut additional 2 additional foam board pieces the height of the shelves and glued it to the inside of the side pieces for the shelf to rest on. Rinse and repeat for the other shelves. You could also put a piece along the back of the frame to support the back of each shelf, though I didn't needed to do that for my purposes.
You are so amazing. You are such a wonderful decorator. I do not know how you come up with all these ideas. I am so glad I found your channel. I am a Fan!
I don’t care who’s idea it is, I love your channel, your personality, I am watching your idea on how to improve my crafting closet! I’m all in on this one. I have one section that I want to put shelves on so I am watching you!
I have seen these type of shelves made before HOWEVER, you make it so much better, easier to follow, and the cheat sheet is so helpful!! Love it. ❤ I think you should get ALL the credit!!👍
I love this idea. Unless you went looking at other people's ideas, this is YOUR idea. If you need it to be stronger, you can try using 2 pieces of foam core glued together for each piece. It would be $8, but that's still a lot better than $30. Thank you for sharing your creative and organized brain with us. I need all the help I can get. 😁
I just bought an Ashland one from Michaels. It has drawers at the bottom, then an open center section like yours and then the top has a removable grid of small dividers to hold pens. I was going to see how I liked it before buying more since my worktable is deep and the unit is only 7.25" deep it won't take away much of my workspace. I'll keep it, but now what perfect timing for you to show this! I can make the rest! The one I bought is 14.25" wide and I can fit a total of five across the width of my worktable, but for my purposes I don't need the individual units to be that wide, in fact I think they might be prone to bowing if they're that wide. The beauty of this is that I can see what I want to store and custom make ones that fit perfectly. This is fantastic! Thank you so much! I look forward to seeing how you make the drawers!
thank you for your honesty and for taking your time in showing details of your work. This has answered so many of my storage problems I will later post my units I make.
I love your foam core idea and I’ve never seen anything like it. I have used a lot of your suggestions and it has made my space so much less of an anxiety inducer. Thank you for all your hard work and video’s, they have made my home more organized without breaking the budget,🙂🙂🙂
Even though there may be others out there, it is still your idea because you have a special way of doing it. You did not know there were others out there. It is helpful to us,so THANK YOU!!!
Hey Norrine....I totally believe you came up with this brilliant idea and I couldn't be any happier that you shared. Can you image the saved space we'll all be able to create by customizing any cubicle! Not to mention the money we will save as I for one have priced the individual cubicle storage and believe me, it is absolutely ridiculous what they charge. Yes, it's probably true that they perhaps won't look quite as pretty but I figure that by the time you fill it, It won't really matter. Thanks so much, Norrine, and have yourself a wonderful day!
I'd have thought it was my big idea if I was doing it too! I was unaware foam core would stand up to this kind of use. Soooo glad you brought this to us. I got a good giggle that you were worried folks would think you stole their idea. Nah....😄
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Thank you for sharing with us, no matter who's idea it was :) ! Does the foam core hold up to the weight of the paper? It doesn't buckle?
You could use the smaller bits for making a box to put ready made cards for birthdays etc, or whatever else you like to keep separated! I wish that’s all foamcore cost over here in Uk, it would cost about $5 +. For just one sheet!!! So probably cheaper to buy a cheap unit from somewhere! Even furniture from charity shops is expensive for what they are!
You have the best instructions around! I've been studying (hours and hours of RUclips), to decide how to build a craft supplies organizer/divider system (from all the saved cardboard boxes = 2020 we did as much as possible online) and this tutorial helped me decide on sizing the sections. I should mention I hadn't thought about the paper. :-) I have a lot of different types of paper for the printer, and for handmade gifts, they are not well organized. The download is priceless! Thank you.
I bought an Over the door hanging wall organizer with 24 pockets from Amazon for $17.99. It works for all my paper and card stock that I don’t need right away. My 12x12 paper is stored in a bin close by.
WOW 🤗 This is the second time I have watched and used this video ! So glad you made this video ! Now I have 2 shelf’s without spending a lot of money. Have a blessed day💞
I like your video because you show step by step and show how you cut and measure which I always had trouble with. I am going to try to make a stamp and marker storage. Thank you👍
Very clever and so budget friendly I think I’ll be doing this for a closet my husband just made shelves in for me to organize my sewing notions and fabrics. I’m so excited about this now
Great storage idea. Foam core is much easier to cut than chip board. Just a thought though. You may want to make a tintsy bit wider to accommodate support risers in the 5 inch space between shelves for added support with your scrap foam core (left over corregated cardboard painted white might work too). Paper and punch tools can get very heavy. Love your videos!
This is a great project. Even if it has been done before someone else will certainly not have seen those. I think it’s great that you chose to share with us. The paper holder i made i did vertical storage for my paper. I used t pins to Reinforce the dividers. I was covering min so you couldn’t see it.
Hi! I was reading another comment and thought of a change to strengthen. Probably already out there, but... If you cut side panels to glue under each shelf out of the foam board you wou have a "double thick" box plus support for each shelf. You are awesome - thanks for all your great ideas and inspiration 💛💛💛
I love this idea! You know what else would be a good idea. Buy some shelving paper from Dollar Tree for it so when you dust it will be easier to clean! I’m so going to do this!!! ❤️😁
I wouldn't have thought foam core would be sturdy enough for paper. I have both a small office and a craft room in which something like this would work well. Thanks for sharing! I might just have to try this as I DO NOT want to spend a lot of money on storage pieces.
You always look great. Something about your hair being up and that level V- neck looks superior! Old enough to be your Mom, but HAD to tell you today!! 💖🦩
Ok so you didn't invent the wheel but you sure made it look great and made easy to follow steps, thank you for the printout as well. Love it, must try to make this, TFS 💓🤗 ~ Sara
I think that’s brilliant! Even if others have done it, you hadn’t seen them and came up with it on your own - so it’s just as brilliant as it would be if nobody had thought of it before. I own a big paper organizer from my teaching days and it really doesn’t serve me - too big. Now I’m thinking I might just let it go and build what I need - I can’t wait to see how you make the drawers 😃 You could also lay it on its side to organize heavier items - maybe even just having 2 sides & laying it on its side for tall / wide items (like mats)!
Great video!! Very creative and all the possibilities for use! I am glad you are doing one using drawers I was thinking about that as I was watching this video! Have a great week🙂
Thank you for sharing this tip....I didn't know foam core could be so sturdy . Never used before...I've got so many different papers !.... Gotta try it and I can't wait for your next video.. Hughs from France..
I love this tutorial! What a fabulous idea with so many possibilities! Just a tip with the square...if you line your foam core up with the inside edge vs. having to feel where it is aligned on the outer edge, it’s much easier. Also, for added strength, you could also cut more pieces to attach on the inside between the shelves.
So very Awesome!💙 Yay! Foam Core Board ya gotta love that stuff!❤️ I have A stack of about a dozen foam core board’s sitting here I was going to make a ribbon holder, a washing tape holder, and a couple of embellishment centers where I can have smaller shelves and put the plastic mason jars in filled with flowers and accessories! Oh the other storage unit to put all my glitters and sequins in - wouldn’t that be a beautiful way to display them! They have those command Velcro strips that will hold it to the wall! I have hung mirrors with it and it is super strong for heavy weight items! I just have not got up the courage to actually start cutting into the boards and make something I think you have given me more inspiration and ideas and extra courage to get started on this project! Of course I have 3 other projects in the works and moving my craft room from one room to another so it maybe winter by the time I get started! LOL Thank you so much for the schematics! I would like to do a paper storage tower also but probably put more shelves in closer together so that I can put my scrapbook paper in it! Thank you!❤️ I can’t wait to see the drawers!😍
Same as you I thought that I was using Foam Board for a project that was new and different yet so many others before me had already done.. So I was laughing when you mentioned that in the beginning. Thank you so much for sharing . You really are amazing. Thank you for this and other videos. Susan
Fabulous idea, never seen this done before. Just what I need to make desk drawer dividers, plastic basket I’m currently using are not working for items that don’t fit in the baskets properly, now I can create exact size to fit for special tools I use. Thank you ♥️ btw you showed up in my recommendations, I subscribed to your channel.
You're in luck!! This is the first video I've watched with this project and I'm sold. Already printed the "plan" sheet. Genius. I live in a 500 sq. ft. apt. and trust me, I have used just about every corner every wall. But...I'm sure I can find a spot for this. I love this and #Store. This is great and thanks so much!
Great for a kitchen pantry for wax paper and plastic wrap rolls. You could wrap the outside perimeter with contact paper to decorate and reinforce the outside. Great video, the possibility is endless :)
I made one for my rolls of vinyl. Basically just the box with the cubbies. I just made slits half way down the sheet which I slipped into each other (like the Vulcans as Norrine mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial). Only gluing was the outside of the box. It is working great for this and I am sure it would be great for all that kitchen roll stuff.
Tfs. This is a great idea, I am going to make one for my 12" x 12" scrapbook papers. I love your inspiration and all your reasonable ideas. Crafting can get expensive but storage is extremely costly. Thanks again
I am just putting together my craftroom. It's going to be simple like myself. But I will definitely be making on of these. I love it! You may not of been the first to come up with the idea. But you did make it so easy for me to make. Thank You
LOVE your enthusiasm!!! Guess foam core is way more sturdy than I thought. I’m not handy with a glue gun but might try dividers within a storage case to hold ink pads...
It may not be an original idea, but I think you did a very good job. I love the blue boxes and the shelfs, and it's easy to do the same as I've already have two bookshelfs similar to yours and I'm going to Ikea to buy some boxes, and now I know how I want it to look in the end. Thank you for making this video 😊
I didn’t know about this idea with foam core! So, thank you for your video explaining these storage ideas. I never thought of searching for something like this! So......I’m giving you credit because your the only person who I’ve watched making something like this! Thank you thank you! ~ Katz Baugh p.s. I use my husbands iPad to watch RUclips videos.
I have to admit that I’m surprised that it’s that sturdy! I would have worried about the glue’s strength to hold weight. Thank you so much for sharing! 💜
What a wonderful idea! You have some great ideas! So it doesn't matter if someone else made it. You have your own technique & I love it. I don't get out to much so I might have to buy it online. But I want to try it for sure. Thanks again! Keep the videos coming! 🎉🎊☺️🥳
here's an idea for your 9 x 9 squares glue the pieces of a lazy Susan to them, then glue that under your shelves if that would work in the narrow space you have for it
You and I have the same glue gun! :-D Completely off topic here, but I recently used foam core and DT duct tape to make a hanging frame for my letter sized hanging file folders in a pull out drawer of my desk. DT foam core can be used in countless ways!
Sawed off paint stirrers Or maybe the wood rulers they sell at dollar tree glued at the bottom of each shelf, laid from one side to the other would help with the shelf sagging.
Just saw a video yesterday where a lady was using a rain gutter for storage. It's very narrow that it even fits yarn. The hard part is getting the saying home because they won't cut it down at the hardware store and your biggest expense is going to be the end caps.
I love this! Honestly I have to admit I made one similar about a year ago, but the instructions were not as good and it was extremely wobbly!! Also I love the size on yours! In comparing the one I did to this one I see why that one didn’t hold up. So even IF there have been others this is NEW AND IMPROVED! I will definitely be making this one! Hint don’t go to tall or narrow on these either! They are still foam board! The height was one of the issues with my previous one, but that’s how we learn! And that’s the fun of DYI right 😊 thank you very much! This is fantastic! Can’t wait for Sunday!
You did totally think of it yourself. Unless you had seen those videos and then just thought you thought of it. LOL this is astounding to me I've seen a lot of smaller storage things like for ink pads and what not done with foam core. I'm not super shocked that the foam core can hold the weight you're putting on it but I'm really shocked that the hot glue isn't just coming off under the weight. I'm sure the extra bead along the bottom certainly helps with that. I need to check out my Dollar Tree for a lot of things, but we have a fairly small store here so I really really hope that they have these big foam core sheets. I really wouldn't have thought that either one would hold up for something this big and with that much weight so this is fantastic. Another like, so give Domino another cookie from Aunty Deb LOL

Great tip, Briana! Thanks!!!!
I love this idea! You know what else would be a good idea. Buy some shelving paper from Dollar Tree for it so when you dust it will be easier to clean! I’m so going to do this!!! ❤️😁
Great tip! Thanks, Donna!
I am so excited about "your" idea. You did an exceptionally awesome job.
Thank you so much!
I wouldn't have thought foam core would be sturdy enough for paper. I have both a small office and a craft room in which something like this would work well. Thanks for sharing! I might just have to try this as I DO NOT want to spend a lot of money on storage pieces.
Then this is perfect! A smaller unit could easily be made out of one sheet!
You always look great. Something about your hair being up and that level V- neck looks superior! Old enough to be your Mom, but HAD to tell you today!! 💖🦩
Awww! Thank you!!! xoxoxo
Ok so you didn't invent the wheel but you sure made it look great and made easy to follow steps, thank you for the printout as well. Love it, must try to make this, TFS 💓🤗 ~ Sara
Thanks, Sara 💙
I think that’s brilliant! Even if others have done it, you hadn’t seen them and came up with it on your own - so it’s just as brilliant as it would be if nobody had thought of it before.
I own a big paper organizer from my teaching days and it really doesn’t serve me - too big. Now I’m thinking I might just let it go and build what I need - I can’t wait to see how you make the drawers 😃
You could also lay it on its side to organize heavier items - maybe even just having 2 sides & laying it on its side for tall / wide items (like mats)!
Great idea, Dawn!!!!
Great video!! Very creative and all the possibilities for use! I am glad you are doing one using drawers I was thinking about that as I was watching this video! Have a great week🙂
Great job on sharing a new idea for me, and YOUR SCHEMATIC for cutting pieces is outstanding! Thank you, I’m subscribing.
Thanks, Juliann! Welcome to the group!!!!
Thank you for sharing this tip....I didn't know foam core could be so sturdy . Never used before...I've got so many different papers !....
Gotta try it and I can't wait for your next video..
Hughs from France..
Ooooh drawers? I can’t wait to see that one!
You are a doll and very fun to see you
I love the way this turned out!
Thanks! It's working great for me too!
Great tips! Thanks, Cindy!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer you’re welcome!
So very Awesome!💙
Yay! Foam Core Board ya gotta love that stuff!❤️
I have A stack of about a dozen foam core board’s sitting here I was going to make a ribbon holder, a washing tape holder, and a couple of embellishment centers where I can have smaller shelves and put the plastic mason jars in filled with flowers and accessories! Oh the other storage unit to put all my glitters and sequins in - wouldn’t that be a beautiful way to display them!
They have those command Velcro strips that will hold it to the wall!
I have hung mirrors with it and it is super strong for heavy weight items!
I just have not got up the courage to actually start cutting into the boards and make something
I think you have given me more inspiration and ideas and extra courage to get started on this project!
Of course I have 3 other projects in the works and moving my craft room from one room to another so it maybe winter by the time I get started! LOL
Thank you so much for the schematics!
I would like to do a paper storage tower also but probably put more shelves in closer together so that I can put my scrapbook paper in it!
Thank you!❤️
I can’t wait to see the drawers!😍
Thanks, Dawn! It is a pretty amazing material.
I can't believe it is sturdy enough for these items! TFS!
So far.... so good! I'll keep you all posted in a few weeks.
Same as you I thought that I was using Foam Board for a project that was new and different yet so many others before me had already done.. So I was laughing when you mentioned that in the beginning. Thank you so much for sharing . You really are amazing. Thank you for this and other videos. Susan
I bought a mat cutter and it works great on foam board if you want to cut multiple smaller cuts. Good for marker shelves etc!
So glad you like it!!!! let me know how yours turns out, and welcome to the group!!!
Awesome! Thank you for watching, Cathey!!!
Yusuf are soooo authentic. Nice quality to have.
Tfs. This is a great idea, I am going to make one for my 12" x 12" scrapbook papers. I love your inspiration and all your reasonable ideas. Crafting can get expensive but storage is extremely costly. Thanks again
Let me know how it goes with 12x12!
I am just putting together my craftroom. It's going to be simple like myself. But I will definitely be making on of these. I love it! You may not of been the first to come up with the idea. But you did make it so easy for me to make. Thank You
Thanks, Tina!
Never used foam core.
Shelf looks great. I will need to try this! Thanks 😊
Foam core are great to make 3d models too.
I think i might adapt this to make a system to hold my ink pads instead of having them all stacked up 5 tall in drawers! Thanks for the inspiration
Love the humor at the beginning
Wow! I was just looking to buy a shelf like this! I will give this a try!! Thank you!!
Go for it!
Totally awesome. I’m so surprised at the weight it holds. Thank you. You’re genius!!!
Love that you give credit to others.
You are so cute... LOL...foam core is WONDERFUL for so many things... great project!!!
Hey everyone.... Let's take a second to share this video on our social medias to get more people to find her channel.....
That would be amazing! Thanks, Lauren!
Love this idea - I don’t store paper but it gave me lots of other ideas!
So glad!
Norrine,
Please post a video on covering a box in contact paper (like the one you have).
It's added to my list!!!! :)
LOVE your enthusiasm!!! Guess foam core is way more sturdy than I thought. I’m not handy with a glue gun but might try dividers within a storage case to hold ink pads...
You are sooooo talented!
Wow, so organized 🤎🤎🤎
Thanks, Katz!!!
Great idea! This is the first I've seen of this type of organizer & tutorial to make it.
I have to admit that I’m surprised that it’s that sturdy! I would have worried about the glue’s strength to hold weight.
Thank you so much for sharing! 💜
I, too, am surprised that hot glue would hold up. And also, putting that last side on before the glue dries-how?
What a wonderful idea! You have some great ideas! So it doesn't matter if someone else made it. You have your own technique & I love it. I don't get out to much so I might have to buy it online. But I want to try it for sure. Thanks again! Keep the videos coming! 🎉🎊☺️🥳
You are so creative and explain the steps of your projects so clearly! Thank you 😊
You are so welcome!
It’s a great idea. Congratulations on your successful project. Very exciting when we can figure out how to solve our own issues
Love this! I’m surprised how sturdy it is. Hi from Minnesota!
Love the use of foan core board...and the left over pieces can be used with your dies in the die cutting machine !!
What!!! Now that's something I didn't know!!!! Awesome, Ann! Thank you 💙
It's always great to see a refresher of this great idea. Thanks for sharing!
here's an idea for your 9 x 9 squares glue the pieces of a lazy Susan to them, then glue that under your shelves if that would work in the narrow space you have for it
You and I have the same glue gun! :-D Completely off topic here, but I recently used foam core and DT duct tape to make a hanging frame for my letter sized hanging file folders in a pull out drawer of my desk. DT foam core can be used in countless ways!
It is amazing!!!!!
Sawed off paint stirrers
Or maybe the wood rulers they sell at dollar tree glued at the bottom of each shelf, laid from one side to the other would help with the shelf sagging.
Great idea!
I love this idea my mind is think how I can shape something like this for my yarn storage in a bookshelf
Glad to know not to go too tall. I'm definitely doing this. I can see how height would make it wobbly. Thanks for sharing.
I love storage! Thank you for this idea.
your square rule is awesome, but for anyone who doesn't have one, lego blocks can make excellent 90 degree angles, an old miniatures trick!
