Coming from a place of understanding and kindness, the interview with Boy Abunda has painted for me a clearer picture (albeit not 100% of course) surrounding this issue with Hope Soberano. First, through no fault of her own, Hope is immensely immature for her age. Hear me out. True to her vlog, she was guided well to be the star that she was (past tense). What to say, what not to say, etc. One would think that you would see beyond those and absorb the essence of why or why not, the implications of doing so were explained to her for sure. The environment may not have been the best at moulding a person to be more mature-yes it does take two to tango-she too had to put in the effort to “grow up”. I guess none of that happened. Second, the concept of opportunity cost. Hope mentioned that she was grateful, yes. But when she proceeded to mention the things that she allegedly missed out on-she was looking at the opportunity cost of the fame. One should understand that it was the cost of the opportunity she was extended-they cannot co-exist in real life because there is a tradeoff to everything. Mentioning all those opportunity costs served what purpose? Although the intention is not to sound ungrateful, the impact is exactly that. Careless. Hope is now swimming on her own-well not entirely. She is swimming with a group that cares less and when you are in that company, reality hits you like a 747 slamming to your face. Careless is teaching Hope a valuable lesson - this is what you want, this is what you get. You want the freedom to open your mouth, then take responsibility for your words. Be careless with your decisions, then the world with crumble before your very eyes. If you want people just to support your vision as an artist, then be prepared to struggle until you are the next Jake Zyrus scraping for work and hopefully happy. Entitlement. When one is from rags to riches, it is seldom that we hear them yearning for hardships because they’ve lived them. Yes, they want to do a lot now that they are comfortable but they genuinely just look ahead. They often recount the journey of the past as a story of triumph-with real gratitude. Hope tried doing this her way--yeah, it tanked-did more harm than good. She still does not get it. Sad to say, for a 25-year-old, she is ill-equipped to survive on her own. She does not have the emotional quotient to handle herself and add careless to the mix and you have a management that is conditioned to say, if I fail, at least I tried. If that is not a class act in “don’t blame me when this goes south” I don’t know what is. Contract Binds. It is sad when you mentioned how you still pay commission to your former manager and for your that makes him a liar. Honey, it just goes to show how ignorant you are. The payments that you make are consistent with what has been agreed upon on the terms. If the payment extends beyond the term of the management contract itself, that is part of the deal you signed. It doesn’t make it a lie. His words were categorically correct. Your understanding is the one that is flawed--if only your new management explained that to you-how careless. If I could have a conversation with Hope, there are a few key things I would tell her. Value the people who were with you when you were broke and had nothing. Avoid careless people who see you as a business -all 20% of it. You are always one decision away from ruining everything you worked so hard for so don’t surround yourself with careless people. Growth is not advertised, you silently work on that with every decision you make, growth doesn’t happen overnight, it is a journey. The careless moves you’ve taken IMHO are barely a decision toward growth-they are serious setbacks that have done more good than bad. I watched Olivia Lamasan’s interview with Toni (check it out) and she confirmed it was originally tailormade for Liza and Quen but she had Darna, Bagani etc and they developed it further. Putting the puzzle together. Coming from a place of understanding and kindness, the interview with Boy Abunda has painted for me a clearer picture (albeit not 100% of course) surrounding this issue with Hope Soberano.
First, through no fault of her own, Hope is immensely immature for her age. Hear me out. True to her vlog, she was guided well to be the star that she was (past tense). What to say, what not to say, etc. One would think that you would see beyond those and absorb the essence of why or why not, the implications of doing so were explained to her for sure. The environment may not have been the best at moulding a person to be more mature-yes it does take two to tango-she too had to put in the effort to “grow up”. I guess none of that happened.
Second, the concept of opportunity cost. Hope mentioned that she was grateful, yes. But when she proceeded to mention the things that she allegedly missed out on-she was looking at the opportunity cost of the fame. One should understand that it was the cost of the opportunity she was extended-they cannot co-exist in real life because there is a tradeoff to everything. Mentioning all those opportunity costs served what purpose? Although the intention is not to sound ungrateful, the impact is exactly that.
Careless. Hope is now swimming on her own-well not entirely. She is swimming with a group that cares less and when you are in that company, reality hits you like a 747 slamming to your face. Careless is teaching Hope a valuable lesson - this is what you want, this is what you get. You want the freedom to open your mouth, then take responsibility for your words. Be careless with your decisions, then the world with crumble before your very eyes. If you want people just to support your vision as an artist, then be prepared to struggle until you are the next Jake Zyrus scraping for work and hopefully happy.
Entitlement. When one is from rags to riches, it is seldom that we hear them yearning for hardships because they’ve lived them. Yes, they want to do a lot now that they are comfortable but they genuinely just look ahead. They often recount the journey of the past as a story of triumph-with real gratitude. Hope tried doing this her way--yeah, it tanked-did more harm than good.
She still does not get it. Sad to say, for a 25-year-old, she is ill-equipped to survive on her own. She does not have the emotional quotient to handle herself and add careless to the mix and you have a management that is conditioned to say, if I fail, at least I tried. If that is not a class act in “don’t blame me when this goes south” I don’t know what is.
Contract Binds. It is sad when you mentioned how you still pay commission to your former manager and for your that makes him a liar. Honey, it just goes to show how ignorant you are. The payments that you make are consistent with what has been agreed upon on the terms. If the payment extends beyond the term of the management contract itself, that is part of the deal you signed. It doesn’t make it a lie. His words were categorically correct. Your understanding is the one that is flawed--if only your new management explained that to you-how careless.
If I could have a conversation with Hope, there are a few key things I would tell her. Value the people who were with you when you were broke and had nothing. Avoid careless people who see you as a business -all 20% of it. You are always one decision away from ruining everything you worked so hard for so don’t surround yourself with careless people. Growth is not advertised, you silently work on that with every decision you make, growth doesn’t happen overnight, it is a journey. The careless moves you’ve taken IMHO are barely a decision toward growth-they are serious setbacks that have done more good than bad. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought you were rebranding-what you have attained so far destroying what’s left and repairing what can be salvaged.
