  • DeWALT’s Bluetooth-enabled green rotary laser (DW080LGS) is by far the most convenient and the best rotary laser I have ever used. This tool is super-easy to set up out of the box, so easy, in fact, that I had my 7-year-old daughter set it up after charging the battery. Snap the 20V battery in, push the power, connect it via Bluetooth to your phone, and it is ready to go. She did it all in a minute or so, and she’s never used a rotary before, though she has seen them used with concrete work before.
It self-levels in a few seconds with a beautiful green laser that is remarkably visible inside. It’s so good that we tried it outside on a sunny AZ day. I could see the laser on the building and property walls in the shade.
Everything is as you’d expect from a top-of-the-line laser-incredible accuracy (1/16” over 100’), IP67 rated so it’s dust proof and water resistant for anything the field will throw at it. It works horizontally and vertically, and since it takes DeWALT’s batteries, including the Flex Volt, I’m never without a battery. The included compact 2 ah battery will run the laser all day, and the next day, too; 17-20 hours on the single compact battery.
The big deal is Tool Connect, DeWALT’s app that allows full control of the laser from your phone. I can access the dual axis slope controls, limit the laser to sweep instead of a full circle which is really convenient when working around other lasers, and slow down the rotation to give a more visible line or distinguish it from another laser that may be at about the same level. I tried it from 100’ away, and my phone still controlled the laser without the laser detector involved. For greater distances (up to 2000’!), use the included laser detector, and your phone will communicate with the detector, and the RF signal in the detector will relay your phone’s commands to the laser itself-that’s 2000’ of “Bluetooth” range to control the laser from your phone. Amazing-setting a 5-degree slope from a quarter mile away has never been so easy.
Tool Connect will also give you a notification at your phone if the laser is bumped or disturbed, letting you know to check everything again.
My laser arrived having experienced severe trauma. The included T STAK case is nicely padded inside, but the front left corner of the lid and the back left corner of the body of the case were blown open, about 4” of breakage in both places. I set the laser up 100’ from my trailer and checked level, and the unit was spot-on. I have no idea what kind of force is needed to break that case so badly, but the laser, and all the included accessories (mount, target card, glasses, laser detector and its mount) were all protected and in perfect condition. I am beyond impressed with the ruggedness of this rotary laser, and the upper padded frame does not seem to get in the way at all of the laser light, especially when considering how much protection it offers the tool.
DeWALT has knocked it out of the park with this new green rotary laser!

Can you type in a numerical value for the slopes via Tool Connect or do you have to "click" it up like on the unit itself?

Sorry I'm responding so late--I missed your comment.
You can control everything in the app from anywhere. It is remarkable.
