Perhaps the most remarkable thing about SE7EN is that very little violence is shown on screen. Really, only the death of the killer (normally, a triumphant moment, but in this movie nothing is triumphant). And in spite of never showing the murders being committed, it shows you just enough that it messes with you psychologically. That's what makes it one of the best serial killer procedurals of all time.

We missed the beginning of whatever we went to see, so we decided to see Se7en instead without knowing much about it. The theater was packed. At the end, the audience was so quiet that it was awkward for everyone leaving the theater. We were all in shock and walking out in stunned silence. 🍿 *HEY MURDER WHISTLE* Most people try to say this is a dark movie and that the bad guy wins. . . . But there is a deeper message right in front of us in this film. In the beginning and throughout the movie Somerset (Morgan Freeman) is very cynical and has pretty much given up on hope. But at the very end he says that "he'll be around", and that the world is still worth fighting for. This movie brings me much hope because in my life and career i've had to see a lot of really bad things. But I identify with Somerset. Although he has witnessed so many terrible things in this life, at the end he chooses hope and does not give up. That is a big statement. Thanks for all you, Blank, and the Co-pilots do 🙏

@@IAmHumongous Sorry I’m just now responding. Yes, it does seem like it was John Do’s plan to wake people up to how much we tolerate terrible things, and to possibly inspire people to do better. However, Somerset still knows that the way John Do preached this message was still self serving, murderous, and evil. John Do even admits to this in the car ride, that he took pleasure in his so called “holy” work. So Somerset could easily just add Do’s disgusting actions to all the other evils Somerset has witnessed in his career that have worn his Hope down. Somerset was not impressed by Do’s motivation because it was still evil despite there being some truth in the message. So even after enduring the deep and methodical evils of Do, Somerset still made a huge life decision in the end to choose hope and still fight for what is good 🙏

I was WAAY too young the first time I saw this movie and watched it a lot without realizing how incredible it was, it was on cable a lot back in the 90s believe it or not, but I mean I can watch it over and over again today and the result is the same, drained and still baffled at how this thing came to be. It's not an easy film to watch but my God is it worth that uncomfort to experience actual cinematic masterpieces.

This was the very first R rated horror film I saw on theaters with my older brother and sister, and even though its a neo noir psychological thriller, I consider this to be a horror film.
The scene where they find the victim in the bed, not knowing he was still alive, was #26 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.

I just watched Seven for the first time myself recently. It's definitely a weird watch knowing how horrible Kevin Spacey is in real life. That being said I think it's an incredible movie. Pitt & Morgan do such a great job. Panic Room is probably my most favorite David Fincher movie though. It would be cool to see a reaction to that one in the future.

Fun fact- initially, Gwyneth Paltrow’s head was meant to be shown on screen. Therefore, a prop replica of her severed head was made.
However, Brad Pitt was adamant that Tracy’s head should remain off-camera, allowing audiences to picture the gruesome sight in their heads (a wise decision).
So, the replica of Paltrow’s head was lost to time, shoveled off to some warehouse. And that is where it stayed until Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Contagion’ found a use for it.
Paltrow’s character is one of the first victims of the deadly virus around which the movie is based.
Her character dies quite early into the proceedings, and we’re shown a rather gnarly autopsy sequence featuring,
    - no prizes for guessing - the replica of Gwyneth Paltrow’s head, initially created for ‘Se7en’.
What a journey for Paltrow’s severed head. Made for ‘Se7en’ and then discarded without use, it waited for 15 long years to traumatize all who would lay their eyes upon it.
After 15 long years of waiting, we finally got to see “What’s in the box.”
