Matt, you are dead on... I had a reformatted 16 GB drive sitting around, easily found my 2016 Tundra with Navigation that I uploaded then copied to the Flash Drive. I inserted into my USB port and received and error that media is in use, so I turned off my Bluetooth on my phone and restarted the truck and it recognized the Drive. I got to approximately 20% and it froze uploading twice. I sat at 20% for 10 min each time to make sure. Purchased a 32 GB today and tried again. It uploaded as you indicate and stopped at 20% for mayber 2 min then continued quickly to full install and the double checking was spot on as well.. Thanks for your efforts
Dude you rock! I've had to remove my Bluetooth connection from my phone because the stupid truck would disconnect me and reboot after talking for 20 seconds! It also randomly reboots while driving. I never knew I could update the computer by myself....THANKS!
After messing around with a the download and my better half’s help I completed installation. Fingers crossed this works and saved me 1k buying new head unit. Thanks for the help Matt
I want to thank you for posting this video. This problem has been driving me crazy for years. The other day on an hour and half trip, four times the radio locks up then reboots. I hope this works. Everything went as you stated in the video.
Really good explanation. I did mine six months ago and the reboot problems have started again recently. I suspect an iPhone update changed something with the Bluetooth.
Thanks for the comment. After I performed this fix, everything worked perfectly and how you would expect it should (for me at least). That being said, I personally don't have an iphone so haven't run into those problems.

Everything looked good until I got to the update software part. It was grayed out and would not let me do it. I was so looking forward to this working.
Update on my update to my 2014 Tundra....system says the last update was 2015 which is what the dealer did when I complained about bluetooth issues when I bought it used. (They did it free) I downloaded the update onto a thumbdrive I had run a quick format on...failed twice. Did research with Toyota to ensure my update was the right one...it was. Yes I remember the frustration. I would have the gps all set and it would restart on me and I couldn't put the address back in while driving. So aggravating!
So I have a 2014 Camry and on 05/30 the day I reached 100k miles my radio went out and I could still use my back up camera.I could hear the radio but my screen was stuck on the Toyota boot loop.I could not change the aux.The only buttons that workers were the power button and the volume button.So on 08/01/20 I decided to go autozone for assistance.However they weren’t much assistance.(I usually allow my dad to handle anything related to my car because I’m not sure how true this is but I heard that mechanics get over on women)However a customer offered assistance with removing the fuse for my radio but he stated it wasn’t blown but he did notice one that was blown and removed and replaced it.I gave him a few dollars and he was gone before I could get in the car.Once in my car I noticed my radio was completely black (so now no backup camera) inside lights wouldn’t come on,doors would not lock,and the traction and low tire light was on.Today on 08/13 I went to Toyota to have my breaks changed and my oil changed and explained the issues I was having.After my car was serviced he stated that they replaced the master sim that’s under the fuse box.He stated that the radio was now fixed.The first thing I checked was my radio I didn’t hear any sound and the Toyota was now back in the boot loop,but my backup camera and all other issues were resolved.I decided to plug my phone into the USB port (which hasn’t worked in 2years and still doesn’t work)I then reached out to entune who referred me to Toyota to see what part needed to replaced and they provided a case number and asked me to follow up.I made a phone call immediately after speaking with them and while on the call my phone switched to Bluetooth and the system lit up.Yes,you read that right my radio is now working I am not sure what fixed it that’s why I included all details.I’ve read the same posts about this issue for almost 3 months without a resolution other than Toyota replacing it for $1000 plus dollars.I hope this helps someone
Sadly if you do not have nav there is no update. Mine is stuck on a solid white screen. Even stays on when I turn off the truck. Had to pull the fuse to get it to go off. Seems dealer may have an update even though the website doesn't. I'll call them tomorrow. If any ideas please let me know.

Sorry but I'm not sure. I used this fix for my stereo what was restarting randomly with GPS on. You could try it, it just loads the newest update onto the system. Hope it helps you!
just did this on my 2014 tundra 1794 edition. The head unit would freeze or sometimes just completely restart, hopefully this fix's it. it did it while i was coming home from work and it just completely froze and i had to restart the unit by holding the power button.
I tried updating. Everything looked good. Turned the truck off, then back on. I was then promoted with the message “unable to install update. Please contact your dealer” Any ideas?

Yes, the swap was simple, just a matter of matching plugs after pulling out the head unit (plenty of videos for that). Much better audio quality from the new unit. Very pleased.@@matthewhendershot2009
Mine did the same thing but let it sit for about 10 minutes and it rebooted then came back on so not sure if it was installing additional updates at startup up but seems to be working great. Thanks again for the video!
QUESTION PLEASE! My 2014 Tundra does have the issues of rebooting but does not have navigation....there isn't an update available for non navigation. Do you think i can use the update for my truck?
I am not sure. I wouldn't want you to try it with this and then it stop all together. If you do build the courage, please let me know how it works out!

So i just purchased a 2014 tundra crewmax 1794 edition everything works fine but i have a intermittent problem with the touch screen has calibration issue i have to hit about 3/4s of inch above what im trying to hit for it to work but its not that way all the time any help will be appreciated

I called Toyota 800-331-4331 and as I'm talking to the rep, I thought I would try again and low and behold, I was able to download the file. Try again, www.toyota.com/firmware-updates, select Vehicle model and year. Now I'm heading out to the truck to install the update and hope all goes as planned. :-)
I'm not sure if it will fix that issue. It fixed the issue of my stereo randomly turning off and restarting during driving. It really sucked if I was using GPS because after the restart the GPS wouldn't be set anymore and you can't put in addresses while in drive.

Update... I was able to download the file finally (called Toyota 800-331-4331 during daylight business hours, and while on the phone with the rep just tried it again and voila). The file was not recognized by my truck on my first attempt. I had not formatted the thumb drive so back inside to format. Then the truck recognized the file and a quick 10 min or less, it was updated. Verified the update and will see how it goes.

I tried it several times but no luck. I see several other RUclipsr have tried and have been successful to see the download but for some reason the update does not show up for me. It says no update available for your multiunit system. Mine is without Nav. It has update for the with Nav system. Can I use the Update for with Nav on without Nav system. How do I check to see what model is mine because mine does not have Map but it does have App bottom. Sorry for many questions.

@@matthewhendershot2009 New update: no longer rebooting, just locked permanently on the "Toyota" and logo screen. Pulled the headunit, went over all connections, reinstalled, no change, Guess it's fried now. Probably gonna order one of the Tesla units. Wish me luck!

That might have to be a dealer fix then. Some of the others that commented mentioned that they called and were able to get it done at the dealer for free.
The download button no longer works on securedp.toyota.com/download-app/downloads. Button turns green but nothing starts downloading. Call toyota customer service to see if they could fix the problem. They just told me to take it to the dealer. Nice...

Someone in this thread said that they called corporate and they had a local dealer do it for free. You might want to try that option.

Dealership said it will charge me over $200 also. I called Corp. for complain and they had dealership did it for free.

@@ceemoney88 I'm experiencing the same issue, and verified I still have the old file (0101A5) and no update history. 2014 Tundra with Navi.
I figured out you DO have to format the thumb drive, then save the file and do the update as the video shows. See my updates commented in my previous comment. Good luck!

Has anybody found a way to download an updated map? My dealer said it's like $700 to get updated maps loaded....RIDONKULOUS Toyoda!!

That might have to be a dealer fix then. Some of the others that commented mentioned that they called and were able to get it done at the dealer for free.
I already try this more than 5 times. And nothing still does the same thing.

The download button no longer works on securedp.toyota.com/download-app/downloads. Button turns green but nothing starts downloading. Call toyota customer service to see if they could fix the problem. They just told me to take it to the dealer. Nice...
