Consider the events happening in both shows, especially during the current Kengan manga arc, it would make zero sense for the plot to progress without having Yujiro Hanma involved. I wasn't expecting them to not only have callbacks to the Baki sequel series Netflix produced, but also the original 2001 Baki anime that isn't on Netflix. The fact they referenced the Baki 30th anniversary crossover manga chapter and it's fight between Doppo and Pa Pang was a nice surprise too.
For context on jack throwing up and getting stronger he did that in the original baki series. Baki the grappler against baki in the tournament and baki wind up winning

realistically, the bakiverse would have stomped kengan because of baki logic. im glad they toned it down to make it more entertaining but tbh it just wasnt enough baki and wasnt enough kengan. ohma vs virgin baki (before he started obliterating EVERYONE) would have been a closer fight without having to tone anyone down. generally taking it to the past would have fixed almost all my gripes with it.
I think Raian actually can beat Jack. The Raian we’ve seen in Ashura so far hasn’t used a single technique and so far just toyed with everyone. Once you see him get series later… he’s like a blender of death. Every hit, every ability, it’s all designed to insta kill.
