As an old salt (22 years service), this brings tear to my eye.
My grandfather, whom l'm named after, worked on the previous HMS Agamemnon, the last Royal Navy pre-Dreadnought Battleship; his son, my uncle, of the same name, worked on HMS Vanguard, the last Royal Navy Battleship.
And me? I worked on the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carriers!
That's a great family history my friend, one certainly to be proud of.
Absolutely glorious. God Save The King.
You will really really regret saying that. I promise you. I'm ex RAF 3 times served. WRONG ALLEGIANCES
When I see moments like this it restores my faith in Great Britain and to remember the values I hold dear which makes us all Britons. Longterm investment in British Manufacturing, with innovation at the core will help put Great Britain back on the international map, and restore our reputation after decades of neglect. 🇬🇧
Fantastic, A great day for the Royal Navy and the Silent Service!🇬🇧
These are the the best in the World. Well done and thank you to all the Men and Women who have worked on this Submarine. Good luck to all who sail on her.
These subs are the most dangerous ships in the Royal Navy
Not really, the vanguard class submarines are significantly more dangerous
@michaelpezzullo3591 this is why we do testing
@@CynicalPlatapus Dreadnaughts will be even more dealdlier than them still
@@CynicalPlatapuspedantic much? This sub has much better tech than the Vanguard class
@@toker6664 doesn't have nuclear weapons, your counterpoint?
That Rule Britannia was gorgeous
Something that's not gonna happen anymore lol
@@mnd7381 the us navy will never be as skilled though
Well done. 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧
Well done BAE and the Navy. 👍
Keep them coming and good luck building the new Aussie Astutes....
They and us will be getting a newer better boat than Austute, but for now this is glorious
@@toker6664
AUKUS-SSNs will displace 10,000 metric tonnes, 30% more than Astute.
Great submarine. Hopefully, there's scope to build more. 🇬🇧
Australia is looking forward very much to purchasing the astute class submarines from the United Kingdom
Australia is getting Virginias, then a new class called SNN-AUKUS.
@@douglasnakamura6753it's a joint UK/Australian boat the next generation and neither navy will call it AUKUS
@@douglasnakamura6753 and the Astute class subs from the UK
@@snuggles03 No, a new class friend. Google.
@@douglasnakamura6753 British designed hull with US combat systems. All 3 countries will use the same sub.
Vice Admiral Viscount Nelson would have been exceedingly proud. As was mentioned at the naming it was his favourite ship as a Captain. She played a prominent part at the Battle of Trafalgar as part of the weather column and took the surrender of a Spanish 4- decker.
Si vis pacem, para bellum...............
Exactly!
Great video. BZ. I was waiting for the crew to burst into a song and dance routine 😂. "SUBMARINE" the musical 😂.
Keep building them.
Good job.
What a name for such a magnifent British effort! It doesn't even sound British! Anyway, gotta love the sub...respect and best wishes to the Silent Service.
She was named after captain Sheridan's ship in B 5 ?
That would be awesome wouldnt it
Rule Britannia Britannia rules the waves 🎉🎉🎉
Need more Astutes. Australia should have ordered eight of these instead of waiting for Astute 2.
Yep there’s are still tier 1 subs. No reason to built a new generation for £10 billion each. Just built 6 of these for £1.5 billion
Great job BAE. One more to go and it's Aukus. How many Aukus is RN getting?
@@cjjk9142 Incorrect - this is the 6th of 7 Astute Subs.
Do we have enough sailors to man it
😮
With all that smoke it looks like Betty the welder has set fire to something again in DDH
Never seen a spikey submarine before
Is this a lady in charge of the British Navy?
why arent there any uk submarines in modern warships
eggs and bacon yes please 🇬🇧👌
The Navy budget for these much needed submarines is way short of what is required and is consuming the Navy surface fleet.
As a deterrent they are invaluable. The AUKUS may long term help the programme. We should be proud of the cutting edge technology we are developing in this programme. The crew are rightly proud of their service and the responsibilities they bear in protecting us. Lets hope the deterrent works as it should. History teaches us that an adversary is just over the Horizon and unexpected at times.
Even though the Astute class are Nuclear Powered they are SSN, the Vanguard class form the Nuclear Deterrent (SSBN).
Empress Frances Golledge Gould/Gold of France
HMS Agamemnon a famous name in the Royal Navy.
The mental strength of these people is crazy
Pay grand attention to whom is captaining this vessel, babylon 5 jokes could come true.
Agamemnon murdered his own daughter, just so Poseidon could put wind in the sails of his fleet. And we're calling him a great leader 🤔
Get her in the water . How many years before commissioning? By my reckoning there are only another 5 Astutes and a T class boat in the fleet
Dont the Royals launch warships anymore?
Notice the symbolism near the end, quite disturbing really.
In soem respects the best attack sub in the world- with 6 afloat coupled with american fleet and soon growing Aussie cutting edge subs, hard to see how china woudl prevail in any bball conflict on Pacific Ocean.
Well done GB. I wish Australia had thrown several billion at you guys to expand production and bought the Astute Class instead of relying on Joe.
You seriously should have just bought these off the shelf, super cheap for a sub at £1.5 billion vs the expected usa sub costs of $7-10 billion
@@cjjk9142 Yup
What no black caps!
Agamemnon, the mythological figure, was a bit of a shit. He sacrificed his daughter. His wife murdered him. Still, different times.

A mechanical Christening ? Very strange!
So one more boat to go
The 4 x Dreadnought SSBNs are under build and then we have the Astute successor for the Aussies and RN.
Of this class yes, HMS Agincourt, what a name, that should upset the French nicely.
@@henryvagincourt4502 Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch My Liege!

The UK should really take a page out of the US playbook and build a sub with similar capability to the Virginia Payload Module (VPM) for future weapons
@@henryvagincourt4502
That was interesting trivia read
The closest thing the USN has done in modern times is the
USS Lafayette (FFG-65)
Eggs 'n Bacon
I would have thought a Royal would have done this naming of the sub, rather than whoever this lady is. I thought boats were to float on top of the water, like a ship. I hadn’t realised a sub is classed as a boat. Another riveting video that I should have ignored.
Yawn, if you have such little knowledge of navy terminology or even have any interest this is on you tbh
Respect 🙏 xxxxxxx
No crew no money no leadership no work.
Crew is literally there
Rule Britannia rules the waves and it also waives the rules…
Waives the rules. In what way exactly?
Vote against Scottish independence!
Nobody dies of overwork at Barrow
Possibly not which is a good thing. But they produce the best submarines in the world bar none.
Results are what count.
Spot the chip
I see a certain 'Michael Pezzullo' (the ardent Brit hating Yank) has been offering his two pennarth of abuse and wrong facting ... 😂😂
I thought Brits were educated and literate. Clearly the naming committee's research was limited to watching the movie, Troy. Agamemnon was born into an evil family under a terrible curse that makes Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones seem like a gentle lamb. Agamemnon murdered his wife's first husband and her infant. He later murders his own daughter to appease a god and get wind in his sails. He ultimately is betrayed by his own wife who murders him and his mistress. Talk about a terrible name for a Naval vessel. (Turns out that the first HMS Agamemnon was cursed. That ship's crew mutinied and it ran aground at least a couple of times.) Would have been better off to call this sub the OceanGate. At least everyone onboard that vessel died quick and painlessly. What's next? The Caligula College of government studies? Or how about Icarus -the next generation fighter aircraft? I actually knew a woman named Jocasta. I never had to courage to ask her what she thought of her father. Some people might say I'm making too much of a big deal. Who cares if a name has had some bad history? Well then, I reply, why bother with names at all? Just call the damned thing U-4689 or Boaty McBoatface. Also, sailors are a superstitious lot (I've served on a US destroyer myself). We don't like being on cursed ships. Bad for morale. And bad morale makes for bad performance. So please, do a little google search before you pick a name -whether for naval vessels or for your children.
More British woke failure. Putin is not scared….😂😂😂😂
'Woke failure'?
Blimey that stretched the two brain cells Mike. There is nothing 'woke' about a killer submarine.
