And then. To add to the absurdity. They look at her like she’s the crazy one and announce it’s dancccccce.
Mr Jay: "Just dance, don't pose!"
Judges: "The dancing is not important. You need to remember you're a model."
Whenever an aspiring model is a trained dancer: "you look too much like a dancer in your pictures!"
They always used their advantages against them. One of the contestants was a model before the show and they'd tell her the pictures looked too model esque and unnatural. It was wild 😂

For real. If they were a dancer they look too much like a dancer. If they are a pageant Queen they would tell them it's giving pageant Queen and not model. If they already had quite a bit of modeling experience they would say well if you have so much experience then why are the other girls out performing you ? And it wouldn't even matter if any of it was true they would just say it and the girls would believe it and at the end of the day these are the people deciding your fate
saying "urban edge" and that photographer popping up definitely threw me for a loop. haha
Yeah, every time they said “urban” I cringed and also why does it have to be a Payless shoes shoot? 🤦🏽♀️ this show is so problematic in every single episode.

I genuinely thought before I rewatched it that it was why they did the photo shoot. Just them having a random conversation and that coming out. And the next day, Mr. Jay going “so we’re doing a clown shoot….” Cue the chaos!!!

Danielle and Joanie are two of my favourite finalists ever. Danielle going “I’m gonna do what I do” and Joanie doing such a great job with the photo.
This season is so entertaining.
It's one of my favourite Top 2 from the show. I think they were both amazing not only as models, but very entertaining to watch. Love them both ❤

I have never heard of krumping but this was a fun photoshoot.
Let's not forget that Tyra played a doll in the movie Life-Size. She must have dedicated considerable time to perfecting that graceful spin for her role. She was just looking for another opportunity to embarrass the ladies.

I've been doing that turn since I first saw it. Once you figure out which way to turn when your legs are crossed, it's easy and fun when pretending the hallway is a runway. Definitely not something you can do without a practice run or two, but it is doable
It sooo wouldn't surprise me if producers refused to let them practice before their turn
I have terrible balance but I managed it once or twice.

The turn is one of those that if Tyra just said "plant your front foot, leave your back foot behind. Turn on that front foot and keep both where they are" or something and they might have got it. If you don't get that first foot placement then you can't do it so there's no balance test!
Agreed! Even when I watched the show as a kid, after trying it out for myself, I wondered why Tyra didn’t give them actual step by step directions on how to do it

They change up what they like all the time. Criticizing Sara for being too tall and “awkward” but a few cycles later a tall awkward girl won.
THIS ELIMINATION IS SO WHACK!!! LESLIE IS AN AMAZING MODEL!!!! THIS GURL WALKS AND HAS WORKED SO LONG PAST HER TIME ON ANTM! Also her photo was great this week, those legs and the way she is just so slick and my eye goes right to her! (if you love reality tv like me too, Leslie even is a RUNWAY model a couple times on Project Runway....jokes on the judges because she is quite the runway walker! Make that money Leslie, eff the haters and the judges lol).

I asked Jessica to do that one too! And they basically told her that she must not want it badly enough because she was sad about graduation. It was so messed up!

Crazy fact, the ONLY photo from ANTM I’ve ever seen in a magazine was Sara’s photo from this krumping shoot. It was randomly in an article about dancing.
I do love Danielle, but part of me still wishes Joanie had one. They are definitely two of the most likable finalists.
Same. I fully believe they casted Melrose and Caridee in the next cycle to try to recapture her magic.
Definitely the most talented, memorable and likable finalists of any cycle. I had a snaggletooth too in my 20s so I was 100% team Joanie back then (without disliking Danielle though), but when I watched the season again, I realised that I just loved them equally, because they're both amazing.
They were a very strong top 2! It was probably a really hard decision, but I was happy either way because I love them both!

I always worked out which model was going home by how much Jay is criticising them on set but I assumed from his general rudeness to everybody that he insults and distracts everybody (except his favourites). But they only show his comments for those going home, as a “See. They had a bad photoshoot. Look how much Jay was criticising them compared to the others,” justification.
I sometimes really wonder how the photographers look back on their participation on this show 😅 and what they thought of it all..

I always hated it when they would say “don’t be afraid to make it ugly.” Um, ma’am, it’s a modeling competition based on good photos. What do you mean make it ugly!?

I watched this episode when I was 7 years old and you best believe I was doing that turn table trick down every hallway at school LOL I'm a pro
She stepped one leg over the other and untwisted! It's really common in church fashion shows, and I saw it a lot in the fashion shows by Black modeling clubs in college. You put your left over your right, and then twist to the right.
It's literally the simplest thing to do, I don't understand why everybody's having such trouble with it.😂

I remember this pre-judging challenge from middle school and literally nearly 20 years later and I still randomly try to do the turn table move 😂
Honestly, the turntable thing is not difficult if your foot placement is correct. Admittedly, they wouldn't get it right the first time but it's not impossible.
Tyra is a legend in her own mind. That's not an attempt to diminish any of her accomplishments, but Ma'am, sit down. Be humble.

The turn Tyra did is a simple and classic gymnastics/dance style releve turn. Since Tyra is in heels, she doesn’t need to pick the back of her feet up so it’s harder to see what’s happening. You basically just start flat then go up on your toes, then turn with your feet/ankles towards the back leg. As long as you go towards the back leg, you can turn 360° around like she did. If you turn the opposite way your knees will cross before the full turn. It does take a good amount of balance and coordination, plus the way your ankles are turned out can also affect it without heels on
I think this is the reason Payless went bankrupt…..

Haha I love that 😂 Tyra could have just showed them, that you need to cross your legs (put one foot behind, sort of around the other) to do that move. Like watch her feet before she turns. Then its a piece of cake - but she conveniently forgot to mention that 🙃

i actually met Brooke probably 8 years ago. She was very nice. I didnt reconize her at first and said she looked like the little mermaid because she had red hair. she loved the complliment, probably because she was used to being called out for ANTM. so it was nice to make her feel complimented rather than bringing up a shitty experience with this show.

if you notice, Tyra did not turn in a complete 360 she just did a 180 turn and then they expect the girls to do with 360 turn without moving their feet. It’s impossible. Also I used to practice this turn as a preteen when I used to watch the ship, the key is cross your feet over when you stop.

This photoshoot reminded me to one of the latest season, where pretty much ALL of the challenges were dance or music video related, and one model called that out, and was kicked out on that same episode 😭
Tyra’s barbie doll experience came through when she did that turn. Definitely reminded me of her from Life Size 😂
I have a feeling Tyra did that turn by having one foot slightly off the ground so her legs wouldn't cross. She was just turning on the ball of her stabilizing foot.

Brooke is so gorgeous. I know her nerves didn’t make her the best model but I agree with the judges (throughout the season) why they kept her around for her so long. Her modeling was meh but during panel, they always talked about they couldn’t keep their eyes off her.

For this shoot I feel like sportswear or modeling sneakers would have been better than heals. Or of they chose a different dance style that is done in heals.
I was obsessed with krumping growing up and this was such a stand out episode. Now if only Tyra could respect krumping 😅 either way the clown guy was the king of krump and was a staple of the time
Yeah I absolutely hate the lazy way she tried to explain it.
Unsurprising, but Tyra's advice to jut out your chin is bad for your neck and back. The human head is essentially a bowling ball balancing on the spine. Over time, that kind of posture will wear down your neck, shoulders, and back. Not a doctor, but my vocal coach helped me develop good technique by aligning my head with my spine. It helps to imagine a string on the top of your head being pulled to straighten out the body. Chin down and pulled back. This also helps open up the chest to breathe easier. Of course for models, it's not as flattering, but I highly recommend prioritizing health in that way. Like any habit, it takes practice to do it naturally. But it has helped my scoliosis (and vocal performance). Thought I'd pass on this info in case it helps someone else.

I practiced that Tyra turn for 20 minutes. You have to start with your feet in the right direction, or your totally F-d. but she doesn’t really give anyone the key. I love Joanie and Dani. Tyra just dumps on both of them.
Apparently to be a top model you have to be a good actress, a dancer, even a good singer songwriter lol
4:24 Mister Jay doesn't know anything about dancing. It's all about the mean face. If you don't do the face you can't dance.
It took me three tries to get this turn. You plant your right foot just under hip width apart, behind your left foot. Then you direct the rotation with your right foot until you get to half way. At that point, you primarily use your left foot to turn the rest of the way. Wa la - smooth and just like Tyra.

spin clockwise, keeping balls of feet in place - majority of weight on left foot, right to balance
right foot will end crossed over left and can step out
I remember Tommy the Clown came to our birthday party when I was like 8 😂😂 They had a whole crew with them and loud music. That’s where we learned to krump dance. It was fun and unexpected 😅
