    How does one get all these new functionality. I have an active 365 subscription and I am on the insider preview channel,yet I don't have any of these....what is the point if I can't use it..

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  4 года назад +1

      I share your frustration. They are being very cautious rolling these out. There are a lot of chances for errors. Microsoft doesn't want it to arrive at corporate desktops until the home subscribers have had a chance to test it out. I can report that I've found some errors in the W-A data, AND crashes happening several times an hour.

      Do you have a website that you use for getting a forecast that far ahead? If you can provide the URL of the website, I can see if this technique will work (it depends on how the weather website is set up.)

    My Excel doesn't show me any kind of weather data. I can see coordinates, Mayor, population and some other but not weather. Is there any possibility to change that?

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  3 года назад

      There are two icons in the Data Types for a city. One is called "Geography" and one is called "Location". The Geography does not offer weather, but Location does. Make sure you are using the correct icon. If you don't have the extra icons (they are in a section called Wolfram|Alpha, then it depends on your license type for Microsoft 365. If you have an Enterprise license, your I.T. department can disable these choices through group policy. If you do have the Location data type, trying using a nearby larger city.

    • @hendrikq9849
      @hendrikq9849 3 года назад

      @@MrXL Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately I can only pick between Stocks and Geography. Theres no option for me to choose location or any other. Just those two.
      It doesn't work with a nearby larger city, sadly.
      Is there any option to still make it work?

    • @MrXL

    hi Bill. location data looks to be so good and i'm trying to add this as a feature for a travel planning tool however; i can't see the location data type, only stock, currency & geography. can you advise how to expand the list of data types; i'm using MS 365.

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  Год назад +2

      The Location data type was part of a partnership with Wolfram and Microsoft. That deal was not renewed and Microsoft removed Location in June 2023.
      The workaround would be downloading all data from somewhere else (Weather Underground perhaps) and then creating your own Data Type using Power Query. I have a video on using Power Query for Data Types: ruclips.net/video/z-WDstDUzyA/видео.html

    • @sjt042

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  Год назад

      @@sjt042 I agree. However, the Wolfram data had obvious inaccuracies and Wolfram would not fix them. So, it would have been easy but potentially not accurate.

    It's been 2 years since this video. I still don't see a Location option under data types. Any idea if this was never fully implemented? Or if there is something I must do to add this data type? I am currently using M365 Apps for Enterprise. Thanks in advance.

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  Год назад +2

      The functionality was removed from Enterprise. The wolfram data had inaccuracies. Wolfram wouldn’t fix those. Many people count on Excel to be accurate. The features in this video are still in the Home edition. But I would never trust them.

    Users with Office 365 also have this feature.

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  4 года назад

      Right now, it is a small subset of customers. (a) Microsoft 365, (b) Home or Student, (c) Opt in to Office Insiders beta channel and (d) be in the lucky 50%. All of those have to be true. But once they get the bugs shaken out, it will become more widespread.

    Hi how to add weather option in data tab as i can see only stock and geography

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  2 года назад +1

      Microsoft recently announced that the Wolfram data (including Weather) will only be available for people with a Home license of Microsoft 365. That means anyone with an Enterprise or a Education license will not be able to use Wolfram. There were a number of inaccuracies with the Wolfram data and Wolfram was unwilling to correct those. So, to me, this is no great loss. I would rather have no data instead of wrong data.

  • @anthonybaca2387
    @anthonybaca2387 2 года назад

    Word of warning here; The Wolfram datatypes or which the weather is one, are going away in June 2023 according to MS. Not worth investing time and effort IMO. Thats what you get when you hitch to an external source

      Excel 2016 is now five years old and won't have any new features. I am surprised you have Stock and Geography, since they did not debut until Office 365. Try doing File, Account. how to enable this feature to Office 2019? thanks

    • @MrXL
      @MrXL  3 года назад

      It won’t ever be in Office 2019 nor in Office 2022. Those editions are designed for people in top secret government bunkers without Internet access. The Microsoft assumption is that if you bought the version for people without Internet Access, then these features that require an Internet connection aren’t needed. I’ve always argued that there should be a bigger warning label on the Office 2019 box that you are buying half of Excel but the marketing people at Microsoft dismiss this idea.

      This was a strange situation. It rolled out to Home customers first. For enterprise customers, there is still some question about allowing your Group Policy manager to control if you see it or not.
