  • I love finding new notions, so when I saw this wool mat cleaning tool, I had to give it a try! I have no less than three wool mats in my sewing room, so I was excited about finding a way to clean off the lint and debris that can collect over time ... but would it work? And what about the mats that I've burned with my iron - would it help to remove the scorch marks?
    The wool mat cleaning tool from the Gypsy Quilter is run through its paces on one of the dirtiest wool mats in my sewing room - see how it performs!
    You can get the wool mat cleaning tool at the Fat Quarter Shop with this affiliate link: shrsl.com/3q4i4

    is it taking the wool off also

    • @CarolinaMoore
      @CarolinaMoore  Год назад +1

      A little, yes... but it would take a *lot* of cleaning for it to add up to a significant amount. Even with several minutes of intense cleaning in one spot, it didn't really make a dent.

    Interesting tool. So I assume instead of cat hair, that was wool it was pulling off your mat. I love your scissors quilt! I have so many scissors. I should do that.

    • @CarolinaMoore
      @CarolinaMoore  Год назад +1

      At the beginning, there was some cat hair, some loose wool fibers. But as I really dug in on the scorch marks, that was wool fibers being pulled up.

    I use a lint roller and now FQS sent a 2N1 Silicone Self Healing Cutting Mat cleaner and I tried it on the wool mat and it gets everything of the wool mat as well. So I didn't have to spend any $$

      @@CarolinaMoore Does mat cleaner take off scorch burns or just lint?

    • @CarolinaMoore
      @CarolinaMoore  Год назад

      You'll see at the end of the video that it was able to take off the top layer of scorching, which made it much less visible!

      @ceciliaschleicher278 Год назад +1

      @@CarolinaMoore I did see that. The scorching doesn't bother me 😉. It does take off all the lint and fibers. It's the 2-in-1 Happy Mat Self-Cleaning Silicone Brush. It is intended for cutting mats but curiosity got me and I tried it on my wool mat and it cleaned it pretty well 😉😊

    I winder if the tool will take off adhesive, like from Heat n Bond?

    • @CarolinaMoore
      @CarolinaMoore  Год назад

      I would think so! Since it can help scrape off the top layer... 🥰

      You can also try a dryer sheet and an iron. Put the dryer sheet over the spot where the glue is, the run the iron over it. I definitely like the tool she is displaying!

    Do you have cats? OR are you taking the wool off the mat? Like digging a hole where you are attacking the scorch marks?

    • @CarolinaMoore
      @CarolinaMoore  Год назад +1

      Where I'm attacking the scorch marks it is pulling up wool. If I sat for 30 minutes and attacked that spot, I would wear a divet into the mat. So, that's not advisable (and not what you'd do for a regular cleaning of the mat)

  • @HRHDMKYT
    @HRHDMKYT Год назад

    If I were you & allergic to wool, I’d wear latex or rubber gloves before performing this cleaning exercise. Because that’s wool you’re shaving off the surface of your wool pressing mat.

    • @CarolinaMoore
      @CarolinaMoore  Год назад

      I'm multi-fasceted abnormal because I hate wearing gloves when doing things (they mess with my ability to feel what I'm doing, AND I'm allergic to latex (I'm also allergic to bandaid adhesive, but that doesn't come up as much with crafting). I just made sure to wash my hands really well after, and I did okay. But yes, for someone with a severe wool allergy they'd want to take precautions, or not have the wool mats at all. However, I have heard that some kinds of wool are less likely to cause an allergic reaction? I haven't personally tested it, though.
