The original version by the Police is excellent, but Alanis absolutely nails her cover of it. She sings it as though she actually wrote it; not many covers of famous songs sound like that. Love it!

This is such a quintessentially Police song that I would have thought it would be impossible to cover successfully - but Alanis has done it brilliantly. One of the greatest and most original female artists of all time.

I remember my oldest brother coming to me "You HAVE to listen to this." He was born in 1966 and me in 1982 an he always was introducing 80s music to me. He rarely liked any covers of his favrorite songs but he was absolutely all about this.

When I got Alanis' MTV unplugged years ago, it was one of my favorite albums of all time, her covers are brilliant.
Her voice is very unique and one I could listen to for hours. I love her version of this song.

Ok I loved The Police's original.. but my God! Alanis just has that voice that just reaches down into your soul and haunts you. If this doesn't pull at your heart then quite frankly you don't have one. Very beautifully done.

i honestly think i prefer this version to the original, and that in no way diminishes the police.
but alanis (imho) does a better job of bringing to the listener a sense of emotional pain the song was meant to convey.
