Powerful film. Saw it on its release date in a theater in Kalispell, Montana. Reminded me of my own youth 50 years ago. Great soundtrack also. Perhaps most important was that Christopher McCandless’ story was from his journal. Sean Penn was also very savvy in his making the film.

so....yeah, crying as I listen to this in 10/2020 just as tears flowed and flowed at the end of this movie when I saw it, in the theater....which I saw well after reading the book. This was the music of my coming of age, and this movie represented a lot of us resless spirits that lived in mountain communities making just enough money during any "on season" so that you could cram in to a van with the person you loved at the time and go and see what the roads, waves, mountains, rivers, crags and hills had to offer this time around. It wasn't just the road, or the mountains or the politics that united us, it was the music, music was our church our bible and our God.

@@leob4403 Haha..He refers to the 'Big hard sun' which is common in Arizona
It's Australian.
@vijayovhal8085 haha
I love this film so much ❤❤❤.
💯
This song and this movie are perfect together.
They are inseparable. ❤💔❤
Que filme é esse ?
Into the Wild
Just got back from Wyoming to the northern suburbs of Chicago. Great trip. God bless everyone. Awesome place. We tipped our toes into the wild.
Great movie. Sad story. And true.
Sometimes you can travel just around the corner to find what you were always looking for... love and understanding. Thanks Eddie.
❤️
Eddie did a great job on the song, but this song is a cover. The original artist is Gordon Peterson and his band Indio. The original came out in 1989 and was #1 in Canada for a long time during my university years!
Honestly I have never liked Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder but this song and Into The Wild album changed my mind about Eddie at least! Keep this song on repeat..🖋️🖤
Whenever it comes on my RUclips channel I watch the full video. It's so good.
thats cuz its a cover
Its the body that dies....soul is immortal.
Beautiful
this song is a hymn to life. Masterpiece. The world would not be the same without this passage. It's a bit like Bitter Sweet Simphony 2
It's a cover FYI
@@dnicol2 So's Bitter Sweet :)
This song just hits differently. The music is beautifully intertwined with the lyrics.
Hello Aaron,
how're you doing,
Your comment caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!❤️
Yeah, I bet the writer Gordon Peterson (Indio) would appreciate that...
This song always brings tears to my eyes, even when I play and sing it myself. So beautifull, thanks Eddy for your music and a big thank you to Sean Penn, the actors and actrises for the movie.
This isn't Eddie's music. The song is by Indio(Gordon Peterson) and was a #1 hit in Canada in the late 80s.
The best song nobody’s heard of..
this song has changed the way I think. every time I hear this song, it takes me far away to the place where I belong
I love this song!
This is such an amazing song, it was my fave ever when i was a toddler. And what i love most is the grand finale at the end of the song, as the electric guitar just keeps getting louder and louder and louder until u can barely hear Eddie singing!!!
RIP Chris. You were one of the very few who were truly free.
LOL. Are you kidding? The guy was an arrogant, clueless fellow. I'm sorry he's dead, but I refuse to worship his arrogance.
Pacific NW Hiker
I worship God Almighty...and no one else.
Exactly how I felt at 17. So my escape was to disappear into the Army for 10-years. Glad to be alive today in 2022. 40 days and 40 nights and it's still coming down on me....❤
Eddie Vedder has a lot of awesome songs out there. This one takes them all home.
@@ADDrecords Thank you
Eddie does have a lot of awesome songs out there but this song is a cover. The artist is Gordon Peterson and the original hard sun came out in ‘89. Give it a listen…it’s all kinds of awesome.
This song makes me drop dead everything I cherish in this material world and just go into the wilderness and become part of it.
This song reminds of my Zoey. Man I loved her. R.I.P. Zoey..I was blessed to have you by my side
Rest in peace...
I am a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, GA just like McCandless was. And the scene of this movie where he graduates from Emory was filmed in part at my graduation in 2006! Go Eagles!!!
Great song...eddie's voice was perfect for this. Great movie...tough ending.
Hits me in the feels pretty hard, man.
One day i finally going to visit america. Love the Country and freedom.
Don't know how this movie and song doesn't move people. I am speechless every time!
One of the best movies ever made based on true story. As touching as brilliant as it can be.
And the soundtrack...oh the soundtrack. Couldn't have been done by anyone else than Eddie.
When I walk beside her
I am the better man
When I look to leave her
I always stagger back again
Once I built an ivory tower
So I could worship from above
And when I climbed down to be set free
She took me in again
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
When she comes to greet me
She is mercy at my feet
When I see her pin her charm
She just throws it back again
Once I dug an early grave
To find a better land
She just smiled and laughed at me
And took her blues back again
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
When I go to cross that river
She is comfort by my side
When I try to understand
She just opens up her eyes
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
Once I stood to lose her
When I saw what I had done
Bound down and flew away the hours
Of her garden and her sun
So I tried to warn her
I'll turn to see her weep
Forty days and forty nights
And it's still coming down on me
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
There's a big
A big hard sun
Beaten on the big people
In the big hard world
🙏 Thanks
Absolutely love eddie Vedder. His poetic lyrics and soul stirring music just reach my soul. Its like im alive again in a life that can feel lost and misunderstood
Not his lryics...and I'd assume Vedder would not want all the credit he's getting as this is a pretty much carbon copy of the original by Indio (Gordon Peterson) minus Joni Mitchel and Brenda Russell as backing singers !
Credit where it's due, Eddie Vedder does a GREAT job on this 1989 song by Canadian Gordon Peterson.
Yes you're right. Brilliant lyrics, beautiful haunting music.
This film And song are everything ❤️
I agree, there is other classics on my channel you should see! Extremely talented!
Eddie Vedder World I will! Thanks for the suggestion 😌
Of course! And if you have any other suggestions let me know and I will post them :)
So beautiful hey!
Fkn brilliant
Only Ed could have made this song so perfect for this movie.
He didn't write it though....
The band is Indio from hamilton ontario
This is a cover.
Susan Schouwenaar how right you are!
Check out the original version from 1989 by Gordon Peterson. Dude released ONE album that included "Big Hard Sun". Veddars is good, Indios was magical...
so....yeah, crying as I listen to this in 10/2020 just as tears flowed and flowed at the end of this movie when I saw it, in the theater....which I saw well after reading the book.
I can't stand grunge, but this song is epic, and Vedder is one of the best male rock singers since Morrison.
What’s wrong with grunge?
Van or Jim please?
@@haywoodalanhayhorr8052 Van. The dude was a romantic, Jim was a tortured soul/poet.
Jim.
40 days and 40 nights and it’s still comin down on me.
This movie and song and verse has stood out to me for 13 years now.
Hello Winter,
how're you doing,
Your comment caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!❤️
Definitely one of my all-time favorite songs right there.
the best movie. One of the most incredible real stories I've ever known. A life story in which we can reflect on what happiness is and the meaning of life. Rest in peace Alexander Supetramp, you have found a peace that you have been looking for.
I remember the beautiful woods of Big Sur California, finding rocks and the sea wash nearest the beach.
2:10-2:35 is where my heart is
You are not alone
It's ethereal. No two ways about it.
2:09 gets me. Eddie was the perfect call for this great film.
This movie learned to how to live life ❤
Profound and very inspirational - and I listen and watch this video often to remind me that life is what you make it
One of the most talented songwriters and singers of this time … bless him. 💗
True, but this song was written by Gordon Peterson.
@@guywithpaddle I love his version. Just listened to it and it's wonderful
The movie that changed my life
What is the movie?
This opens doors I didn't know were
even existent, or even existed ever!!
Everytime I hear this something different comes to mind it's very mind-expanding!! Dare to dream...... Let go, peace is possible... it's beautiful ❤️😊
Literally still the best voice in the world
This song and others from the soundtrack make me feel a lot of the worlds worries feel so small. All the problems society has and all the problems every individual faces everyday. The music has a stronger almost earthy natural feeling that seems to trump all human made issues. It’s uplifting and deep at the same time.
Fucking fantastic song,I'm so proud of pearl jam, from my home state,of Illinois.
Eddie Vedders unique voice is what makes this song so awesome.👌
The Original is just as good. ruclips.net/video/PvFfDTGlCig/видео.html
@@scatfarmer awesome, yeah both version are awesome.
Life changing phase keep on feeling like there something better out there!
Best song I've heard in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Truly ethereal. Frisson.
This song gives me goosebumps. Why? Someone tell me. I want to make a play list that invokes the same or similar feelings that this music does.
Do you have collection of such songs?
It is very dramatic. I think.
Thankyou for your love and support over the years,I appreciate you alot feel free to contact me through my email address on the discription of the channel.🎶
I taught this book to seventeen-year-olds in Australia. The music was such an Integral part of the course.
This song is very beautiful, but because of the movie brings me sadness. God bless you, Chris McCandless.
My Wife and I grew up in the imperial valley in southern California Those places and mountains were our backyard.
Mountains are the best. I grew up amongst the Monashee mountains. BC, Canada.
He lived many lives, always driven by freedom. Most of us coud only wish for being as free as Mr Supertramp. I have a lot of respect for waht he did, even though it seems radical in some respect.
