"I read somewhere, How important it is in life not necessarily to be Strong, but to feel Strong, to measure yourself atleast once, to find yourself atleast once, in the most ancient of human conditions. That is the way it is here!" One of the most inspiring lines I ever had
You just blew liberals mind...be strong?! They say, What we can't be strong we need to whine, complain and be project being being victims 24/7 ! We must!!
this is a most see movie. i think that as far we are from simplicity and from nature - that's how far we are from ourselves, from the core of our being. life goes beyond working an 8 to 5 job, sitting in front of the TV and falling into hatred and constant fighting with the person we used to love only because we forgot that nothing is bigger than nature, than life, and nothing else really matters as long as we're healthy - in body and mind. i really do feel blessed and know that my happiness lies in me, and that movie just emphasised that to me. and it's music is such a big part of its magic.
Nathalie, a great book, a sad story led to the movie. I agree with you, though, Sean Penn did a great job making the movie form Chris' story as told by a master story teller, Jon Krakauer. Another book Krakauer wrote that I liked, was Into Thin Air.
I was in a pretty bad place when I first heard of Into the Wild. Now, I can't remember whether I saw the film, read the book or heard the album first, but it's the only time I've ever loved all three equally. I used to listen to this very video every day on my walk to a job I hated, RUclips's early pre-smartphone app playing in my pocket. It made me walk more upright and reminded me that there was more to life than struggling to keep your head above water. Dunno how much it played a part in turning things around for me, but if I remember those feelings now, 11 years later, I guess it was significant.
Very few youth of today has any idea what it is to be free. We keep them locked behind doors, have organized sports, organized music, even organized playtime. Heck, we knew to make it home for dinnertime, or pickings were slim. Other than that, it was go outside and do something. To the kids today I say "Do something. Do anything! Just do something. Make yourself feel free. Live.. just once."
Christopher McCandless was an amazing person and probably one of the most inspiring people I've ever read about and got to see Emile Hirsch act as in Into the Wild the movie, we could learn a lot from Chris and his Alaskan experience Rest in peace Chris You have inspired many and touched many more.
The inspiration isn't found in his demise but in his life; he's a symbol of freedom in a very complicated world. Sure, one may argue that freedom is simply a spiritual, internal state of mind, and that abandoning civilization and human connection to suffer conditions humanity as a whole hasn't faced for thousands of years seems a little radical. That, my friend, is where the beauty and inspiration comes from-- Chris freed himself against all odds. He broke the rules. That's inspiring to me.
Yeah, that's something my Dad talks about and I agree with. If he had just done his research, kept in contact with family, and generally made sure he had some way of getting back, he might still be alive and have an incredible story to tell.
I saw this movie in a theater all by myself. No other people. I wandered around and walked around the theater as I watched it. I was so surprised at how similar I had felt about things, as he did , at the SAME TIME in history as him. Then, at the end of the film, it showed his birthday February 12th, 1968. It was the EXACT SAME DAY I was born!! He and I had been born on the same day and lived our lives at the same time. I still cry when I think of his story.
I was on a 14 month 31 country round the world solo backpacking trip, and 9 months in i started to think maybe it was time to go home. One night at a hostel I watched this movie... It kept a smile on my face for the rest of the journey and I never looked back :) Thanks for your inspiration Chris Mccandless!
Already went by whole EUROPE (+hitchiking also)! Maan, i know what do you feel! :) I remeber these lonely nights on Atlantic beach... And now, when i back... I think that this typical life it's not for me. I don't enjoy it so much like when i was in journey. This is something incredible. Peace!
The beauty of Christopher McCandless story is the young man had the cajones to actually do the journey. Reckless, yes, but incredibly bold. Love this movie. Love this tune too.
This guy has inspired me so much. I never thought I would find someone who saw the world the same way as me. When I am down I come to this song and go out to my mountains in the Adirondack Park and all the stress just melts away. I love CJM
thank you for this. Many years ago I wanted to follow in Chris's footsteps. I never did. But what I did do is become an explorer, a hiker, a person who sought out pure beauty in nature. And I will die on the trails. Chris is always with me in spirit and I'll never forget the impact he's had on my life. period. rip Alexander Supertramp.. you're forever in my soul.
as far as i rememeber Mcclandess have hadn't terroristic manias...anyway....until you respect everyone and you follow the correct contemporary ethic nothing is as much worth as personal sacrifice in life...
I dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
i think it was a story that deserved to be told. many people feel the need to run away (for a variety of reasons that cannot always be understood by others) and for that reason i think mccandless's story is very relatable and important to many people. no one can fully get inside his head to know what he was thinking and so none of us can really judge him.
whenever i listen to this i always end up smiling and its the best feeling. I think its because i dont have the ability to express how i feel in words so it just emerges as a smile...something anyone who sees will understand
No guts, no glory. Whatever Chris discovered or understood is something that will forever elude all of us. How do I know that's true? If it wern't I wouldn't be here typing. I'd be elsewhere, and you wouldn't hear a thing from me.
such an amazing movie thats based on a true story..i loved it even the song is so beautiful. and even though some parts made me ball my eyes out especially when the man died. i still love watching it over and over
excellent but scary movie........but...it gave a strong message....that,,,happiness is only real when shared........and ...fantastic sound track.....by eddie vedder......
This song is great 'I've been to Alaska once in the winter it is a big hard world ' why he went there we'll never know ,maybe like the early gold prospectors looking for a fresh start .
I think he was just too disappointed in people so he closed up to everybody, he loved them to the one safe point, and he wouldn't cross that safe line for nothing..and not just happiness , Love is the most important thing in the world, unconditional, fearless, strong and true LOVE!
I'm glad you're so certain that the book and film are accurate. It must have been strange for Christopher to have both an author and a camera crew following him around everywhere.
Sad & haunting. Fits the movie perfectly, knowing how it ends. I wish he would have succeeded, to live to inspire - because this was always an unfulfilled fantasy of mine - to go off the grid & live completely off the land.
I couldn't agree more..I went to college and I live in a small town..so I got to know small town folks and big town morons..and I will always choose a farm over a shiny, fake cities..the more ppl are connected to the roots the more honest, helpful and kind they are..exceptions are possible off course..
After all these years still get chills while watching this
same here
i have to admit that me too :)
i have to admit that me too :)
i have to admit that me too :)
Eddie Vedder and this story go along so well.
Oh my God, this movie BROKE MY HEART.

GREAT MOVIE~ tRUE..though, great movie! See it!
That is why I am avoiding it; it would break my heart too.
It really.... touches the soul

meh. he should've try to be a father. definitely more challenging

I love these words !

Totally agree but I feel life so much that even a movie like this can touch the soul and leave it a little hurt.
Nathalie A.E will you marry me ??

Beautiful comment, thanks
A young man like no other .
Chris u have my utmost respect
I played this for my mommas funeral!! Forgive me mom for my crazy life!! You were gold! I also played landslide by Stevie!!
A song that reminds you how it feels to be alive, not necessarily to be strong, but to feel strong!!!

Nothing but love for this story and Eddie
Some people can't live in this " system" we call normal
It's Not
This is hands down the most touching, and best movie I have ever seen.
The inspiration isn't found in his demise but in his life; he's a symbol of freedom in a very complicated world. 3:04 the part where he sees himself in his WHAT IF life is so powerful. Good for him on following his heart. Just wish he was better prepared.
Yeah, that's something my Dad talks about and I agree with. If he had just done his research, kept in contact with family, and generally made sure he had some way of getting back, he might still be alive and have an incredible story to tell.

yeah, have a kid , then you realize how trite this movie is
The beauty of Christopher McCandless story is the young man had the cajones to actually do the journey. Reckless, yes, but incredibly bold. Love this movie. Love this tune too.
To find your self in the most ancient of human conditions.
That's the true definition of Living.
be a parent.
il video, lui Eddie. .la sua voce. ....la canzone e' ..tutto meraviglioso!!un invito alla vita!!!!
This guy has inspired me so much. I never thought I would find someone who saw the world the same way as me. When I am down I come to this song and go out to my mountains in the Adirondack Park and all the stress just melts away. I love CJM
some of the best lyrics I've heard in a while, perfect for the movie.
thank you for this. Many years ago I wanted to follow in Chris's footsteps. I never did. But what I did do is become an explorer, a hiker, a person who sought out pure beauty in nature. And I will die on the trails. Chris is always with me in spirit and I'll never forget the impact he's had on my life. period.

To die for what you believe...there's nothing better...
as far as i rememeber Mcclandess have hadn't terroristic manias...anyway....until you respect everyone and you follow the correct contemporary ethic nothing is as much worth as personal sacrifice in life...

@Jamie Titus Instablaster :)
A brilliant story about independence, alienation, life and love. Share your joys and hearts.
i think it was a story that deserved to be told. many people feel the need to run away (for a variety of reasons that cannot always be understood by others) and for that reason i think mccandless's story is very relatable and important to many people. no one can fully get inside his head to know what he was thinking and so none of us can really judge him.
There's beautiful souls in all places in the world, doesn't matter where you come from or what you look like.

And then he came up to conclusion that if you want to be happy, you need to share happiness with somebody else :)
While the societal adjustment would be hard for most people. We do need the change.
