Lovely to look at, nice that much is built and put together here, but it's performance is a five year old GSXR at £10k more than a Panigale V4R. Here's hoping the performance goes up and the price gets more reasonable. The frame may be a peach with the current performance, but I wonder what would happen if you add another 30 bhp and more torque to match it's rivals? Would have been great to see it on the Brands Hatch GP circuit, but big up on getting around the naff camera rules.
Why more power? To use where? Some tracks 200bhp is to much and always more power comes at a cost of midrange, that's why 200bhp plus bikes could lose 30bhp to boost midrange.

@@benj5386 being built in UK isn’t that much costly than being build in Germany or Italy. They want to be the Ferrari’s of bikes when they can’t offer better than Ducati or BMW for more or less double the price. Yes 44k is well beyond us plebs, but I'm afraid it isn't built for us either. Norton is a small factory producing a small amount of bikes, that with the exception of the off the shelf components (brakes, suspension etc) is pretty much hand built. R&D alone eats up millions, then the frame is TIG welded by hand, a fabricated ally tank... Their own sodding V4 engine! The Japanese, Italians, BMW, Triumph, Hardy Movin'son all rely on large, efficient factories and most importantly, volume of sales to keep the price of their bikes at a (semi) reasonable price, but Norton is only one step up from the one man custom builders but they have much higher overheads (when was the last time you seen a 300 section raked out chopper with a Kawasaki VN motor that had any R&D beyond "how do I get this to fit that?") so they need a big profit margin on every bike they sell.
Stunning machine! Last time I saw a Norton was with the JPS paintwork at the British GP, 1989 ish I think, Shwantz won the 500cc race, Pepsi Suzuki, what a bike 👍
Based on my conversations with Norton at the BSS in London. Norton isn't going after the hypersport segment with this bike. Think of it more like a Grand Touring sportscar. They worked really hard to make it a smooth ride on the street and it has plenty of power for swift canyon rides. This is not a bike for going racing. For the track? Sure, but this is definitely like a GT sports car. I think Buell would benefit by using the same approach with their 1190RX. It's long in the tooth but their chassis is amazing and has 160 to 170 of rear world horsepower and tons of torque. Perfect for a track day bike or canyon riding. But this would be like comparing a Porsche 911 to Koenigsegg Jesko. I wouldn't even put this in the same class as Ducati V4R or Aprilia RSV4 Factory 1100.
@@therealslimgamey1 because its still a great engine. The sound is like no other and you can get more revs than a twin and more torque than an inline 4. Its perfect.

I’m not saying 44k isn’t a big ask, but I don’t think people grasp this isn’t a superbike, it’s meant to be a bike you take to the canyons, maybe the occasional track day, and just really enjoy. It’s meant to be an experience not to be a performance monster, which it is, 185bhp with a chassis with a bunch of mechanical grip is probably the best combo you could have, just because something is better on paper doesn’t mean it’s an bloody good in real life. Norton also doesn’t have the volume of the top guys, so they need to pay for the dev cost with i higher price since the quantity is lower, that’s how you run a business and make it so they can keep making great bikes like this. Also since this bike is so limited quantity they don’t need euro 5, I don’t think people realize the fireblade, the s1000 etc all make like “only” 160 whp because of restrictions, this bike doesn’t have that. stock for stock I would bet this bike is as fast if not faster then the top guys. Is it expensive, yes, but it’s a damn cool bike, and if you get one I can almost guarantee you’ll be the only one in your town with one.
I love to see that Norton adds diversity with their beautiful bikes, even if they might not be as competitive and at a higher price! I hope they'll find enough enthusiasts in the market. Proper and honest test as ever, thanks Al and the team!

It really does look like a lovely machine, though it looks a bit depressed from the front view. I hope the new owners enjoy them and actually ride them for at least 100 miles.
I could not not help but notice how the rear hub/sprocket design is exactly like my Ducati 1299... verbatim ! Im sure everyone agrees, that is an one amazing piece of art on two wheels.
I wish they'd have another try with the rotary engine, with the advances in technology and design, surely they could build something very special that could be on equal terms with today's superbikes
V4's are the best, and it's nice that the folks who put a deposit down will still get a bike, but I'm not convinced Norton have a viable long-term plan by building a strictly road focused superbike. It's not exactly the hottest selling class of bikes these days so having a link to racing is even more important to move units when the average rider is looking elsewhere. And that price tag... This is not to dismiss the hard work of the people at Norton today, but I'm afraid all I see is yet another short-lived Norton resurrection.
Rode Norton for many years, still have a fondness for the name, not sure what I’d have done, the Harley crowd has its own idea of what a motorcycle is, some of us outgrew the sport bike, never loved any of the Japanese stuff I’ve owned, not saying they don’t make some incredible things, I ride an older Harley and truly enjoy what it is, some folks will never understand why I prefer pickups to sports cars.
That chain guard, the brite work on everything, and yet it doesn't look too gaudy... 👍🏼 It's not 44k good, but it's not an ugly bike! I think they should give you a loaner for two reasons; one, 44k with 44T and two, I'd like to see BVG-Chris have a go too! Tall man input is always appreciated too! Happy to see more of VON GRUMBLE any day of the week...
Good starting point, let time tell what the Norton factory can do. I say another manufacturer building bikes has to be good news even if I personally could never afford this model. 👍🏼
When the honeymoon is over, how will this bike really stack up against the Italian V4 offerings? With the attrition of the superbike market for the road, what future does Norton have when all the moto-historians have purchased theirs?
They new owners of Norton have said they'll complete & deliver all the bikes people paid deposits for before the company went under, even though they've no legal obligation to do so. That's a great start to gaining back market trust.
Bloody awful, isn't it? A number of bikes use this arrangement when they should just mount it from under the seat tail. Perhaps they were concerned it would block the rear view camera!
I’m so glad Norton have kept going. I have to be honest and say I preferred their all out v4 race bike. Shame they couldn’t get the engine done before they ruined the brand
It's a pretty bike, I do really like it. I would expect - demand - electronically active (adaptive) suspension for the price-point as it is something that makes wonderful sense on the roads. I'd hope that the sort of person this bike would attract as a buyer would mean an excellent post-purchase back up (spares, servicing, repairs etc).
Could someone explain the comment about the camera and being in the UK? The always reliable Internet (ahem) thinks helmet mounted cameras are legal as long as you don't drill holes. Is it a track day thing?
The face of the “new V4” already looks dated to me. I feel like it hasn’t been updated since the original V4 design. But looks are a matter of taste, I guess and I suppose it has a touch of classic about it. Kinda looks like an owl.
Agree. The whole aesthetic is a little bit 2010. There was this guy who posted a bunch of his home-build bikes on various forums about 10 years ago, his forum name was "Cabbie". Cool builds, but weird attitude. Anyway, this Norton reminds me of something he'd make - polished frame, curvy swingarm that doesn't quite match, nice details, little rs250 seat. Feels like that era
Couldn't agree more, all the other comments calling it beautiful, I think it looks dated and ugly, and he's already said the electronics feels dated, that's before back to back road test's with its much cheaper rivals. Should have used the money instead to compensate the previous customers and let it rest and concentrate on the modern classics, but even then they'll be twice the price and half as good as the equivalent triumph, nothing's changed, bikes for mugs or rich investors.
Is the seat slippy Nige? Lovely, but reminds me of a modern day Bimota. Would love to see them make a middleweight bike, but more likely the brand has been bought to electrificate?
Looking forward to their future bikes and more importantly pricing. It feels to me that an aprilia RSV4 has this pipped in all areas except possibly styling, which is subjective anyway. I don't feel that Norton has a future unless they broaden their range to include cheaper yet competitive bikes. By all means have the £40k+++ and then some bikes to compete with Ducati, but if they want to drum up brand loyalty, they need to go the way of triumph and have a well designed, premium, yet still capable and reliable product that competes with the market and presents a route to their balls out poster child halo bikes. This bike isn't that, but then I guess it isn't the future of Norton, just the corrected recent past. Hope to see some sweet modern retro commandos and a range of mid and heavy weight sports bikes in the future. Great to see a great brand stepping out of the doldrums of the soon to be forgotten "Garner Era"
Agree, the superbikes are dead and trying to compete in that segment to futile as it will always be at the bottom of the pack. The naked middleweight roadster/heritage bikes are we're Norton needs to be commando/dominator are the future.

I can't see it happening but you never know
It would need a lot more horses to compete at the TT.
I absolutely love Mallory. Not been for years though since moving to Wales.
Well they can't compete with other bikes since they are not big enough to produce them at a reasonable price
Best review of the new Norton I’ve seen so far 👍🏻
Rode Norton for many years, still have a fondness for the name, not sure what I’d have done, the Harley crowd has its own idea of what a motorcycle is, some of us outgrew the sport bike, never loved any of the Japanese stuff I’ve owned, not saying they don’t make some incredible things, I ride an older Harley and truly enjoy what it is, some folks will never understand why I prefer pickups to sports cars.
Don't know if Boothy will see this, but I wish him the best and pray for a quick recovery. Bless
I've had the same commando for 45 years I fail to see the improvement.
sounds effortless and clean.."NICE"❤
Good vid, Nige. Lovely looking bike, I’d own one if I had the money. 44teeth on a 44grand bike, love it!! 😊
That chain guard, the brite work on everything, and yet it doesn't look too gaudy... 👍🏼
It's not 44k good, but it's not an ugly bike! I think they should give you a loaner for two reasons; one, 44k with 44T and two, I'd like to see BVG-Chris have a go too! Tall man input is always appreciated too! Happy to see more of VON GRUMBLE any day of the week...
Wish them all the best.
Looking forward to some bikes at the more main stream end of the scale.
Not a Norton fan, but the bike looks good and I am happy that the company did a 180 degrees turnaround :)
Hope they're a great success.
yes lad! GET IT!
I couldn't imagine anything making the Ducati Panigale V4 SP seem like a no brainer bargain? 🤯
and a display off a ZX Spectrum.
Got to say, what a Fantastic looking machine, looks " British ". Credit to Norton. Can only get better.
They new owners of Norton have said they'll complete & deliver all the bikes people paid deposits for before the company went under, even though they've no legal obligation to do so. That's a great start to gaining back market trust.
Did they suddenly remember that they had to put a rear number plate on! Who on earth came up with that mount!!
Bloody awful, isn't it? A number of bikes use this arrangement when they should just mount it from under the seat tail. Perhaps they were concerned it would block the rear view camera!
That bike is a stunner.
It is beautiful! Omg it's a looker.
You said it's got a great chassis, so it's not just looks. A stunning piece of engineering.
Well done Norton.
Love the new Norton looks beautiful and goes as well
I’m so glad Norton have kept going. I have to be honest and say I preferred their all out v4 race bike. Shame they couldn’t get the engine done before they ruined the brand
Can’t have onboard cameras in the UK?
That's a RSV4 1000 Factory with a whole bunch of track days worth of bike... or is it? (This one would look far better in the living room though)
Cambox V4 pro.
Gets you around the "no camera on the helmet rule"
Check it out.
one of the best looking spotsbikes ever
Hmm, watching this review on 44 teeth while my phone battery is at 44% and the bike is 44 grand. Is the universe telling me something??
Is that 44 grand for a bike that has 6 years old technology and power?
I wish they would tone it down with the forza britannia, subtle clues like Triumph does would be good.
Amazing looking and sounding bit of kit!
Funny how exotic the v4 is now meanwhile I'm looking at VFR's
Now that’s a thing of beauty
Is the seat slippy Nige? Lovely, but reminds me of a modern day Bimota. Would love to see them make a middleweight bike, but more likely the brand has been bought to electrificate?
I like Mallory, but a weird track to test a V4 on
Will it be parted out when you take it in for a service?🙏
They should put that pretty air cooled Commando engine they have in a bike that actually looks like their original 60's Commando.
One of the nicest looking bikes, I think. That's a tonne of dough!
I just think it sort of looks like an old triumph with some modern bits on. Definitely doesn't scream 44 grand
Fancy leaving that reg plate on.
Firstly big ups to TVS for honoring old orders when they really didnt have to. Could u spend less for more, deffo. But given the chance I'd have one in a blink. Onwards and upwards I hope for Norton.
How many times do we hear this. MV Agusta where masters of this!
@10:25 hnnnngh, I'm having 90's Spondon flashbacks.
The tanks very thin unlike the rider lol ,back to back Aprilla RSV4 and norton ?
Sounds like a twin!
what's with Norton and chrome/polished bits?
What better way to take a bike on a test ride than on a track!
Take care, ride safe.
The early 2000's called. They want their bike back
I can’t wait for the Superlight nige!
was looking forward to this as an Aprilia RSV4 rider but 44k , goodness me
Well done! Also the retro- design. Good to hear that Triumph is on its way, but there is a bitter taste. Is it exclusive enough to ask for 44K BP or is it meant to be exclusive. I would love to have one and so on but why shall I buy a Triumph if I can get for 38.500 BP a Panigale V4 SPS. Hmmm I am not so sure about your Price.
It looks stunning Nige
I hope that Norton get there this time, as once a nation of the best dike builders we deserve to be the again.
What an awesome bike, I’d love to have it next my RSV4 Factory❤️❤️
