My Hmong Dad, who grew up with Lao ppl, makes his khao phiak like yours and eat it the same way with fish sauce too! It's so good to eat it on a cold day in Minnesota :)
I make this all the time, but instead of adding on the extras.. I just use more rice and rotisserie chicken, with chicken bouillon. And I like it thick too! I’ll definitely try your version this weekend.
A great recipe. So easy to prepare. I made it with cubes of pork shoulder I browned first and used chicken broth instead of chicken bullion. I also added some chopped celery. With the garnishments of hot chili crunch, cilantro and green onions and crispy onions it was exceptional. I can see why you have such great memories of your Mom cooking this for you when you a little girl.
Omg I just demolished a bowl of this soup. It’s a very wet and windy day in Seattle, perfect day to stay in, curl up and savor comfort food. It is SO easy to make and delicious. I’m so happy I found this recipe, thank you so much for sharing it. I posted a pic on Instagram and gave you a # 😊
All these hmong people trying to correct you on what your dish is is so embarrassing. Don't know why they would say that this is no khao piak this and that when they don't even know what the word translates into in Laotian
yes as long as you use small ones. you can par-boil them before adding them to the soup if you want them extra tender. i recommend 10 min par-boiling :)
it can be made with brown rice and you may need to add water and increase the cooking time. i would experiment with a small batch of rice just to see how it firms up and then you will have a better idea on cooking time :)
@@HouseofXTia They have a brown mini rice(very small grain, )at the Indian store.I made Khao piak it turned out very delicious, of course cooking time was longer
I just came across this video. That soup looks so delicious and since I actually have all the ingredients, I’m going to make it tomorrow for lunch. Do you have a recipe for homemade chili oil?
A lot of haters here. Sen added to the title is just noodles. It's more common to just make the rice version because people have more access to grains then noodles. Khao is rice... so adding another word behind piak doesnt make any different unless its Sen which is noodles lol. Who cares if its lao or Hmong but this is khao piak. To me it's just weird adding khao again when it's already in the name. If she made a noodle version, just add sen but wow. Just be happy that the dish is still around. The traditional original dish is the noodle version which lao people leave the word Sen out.Good video!
You make these Lao dishes so much more easier for me!! THANK YOU!! ❤️
your welcome. enjoy!
We Filipinos have this exact dish! It’s so good! I never added cilantro until seeing your video and now I’m glad I did. 👍🏽
oooh! do you also use pork ribs? i love filipino food!!!!
House of X Tia we mostly use chicken but I’m sure pork ribs have been used! I know my mom has used ground pork too.
Oooh I've had with chicken but never with ground pork, def trying! thank you!!

'khao piak (khao)' in laotian translates to rice porridge. have a great day! thanks for the google tip
