You don't need to be nasty.
Medal count is a good way to determine this list but definitely not the best. With the Olympics only happening every four years many gymnasts that peaked in between or only got to participate in one Olympics get overlooked.
If they included “world championships” medals (which happen in non-Olympic years) then medal count becomes the only objective metrics by which to rate gymnasts.
@@captainbryce1 not really. a lot of female gymnasts leave the elite scene after an olympic year so it still makes a false sense of accuracy. take shawn johnson for example, or laurie hernandez.

Mitche Gaylord have 4 medals in 84 Olympic Games (Team Gold, Vault Silver, Rings Bronze and Parallel Bars Bronze). And he becoming the first American gymnast to score a perfect 10.00 in the Olympics.

@@sinhueherrera8984 Respectfully have to disagree, but you're allowed your own opinion. However this list is based on Olympic medals rather than merit or being memorable. It really should be titled USA's top Olympic medallists or something. So yeah. She fits the criteria.

Shawn only competed senior elite in just 2 years. Her comeback wasnt very successful either bc of her injury it's really sad. I really think sometimes it's an age thing bc she got to compete at the olympics at 16. and then stopped after that. if she had an entire quad heading to an olympics she'd be a beast.
So why exactly wouldn’t world championships be included in this? The title doesn’t limit it to only olympics. And how exactly does Julianne McNamara with 1G and 2S, Carly Patterson with 1G and 2S, and Mary Lou retton with 1G, 2S, and 2B get left off this list? 🤦♂️🤦♂️

And that she did it all in one go. Much respect to all the gymnasts though. Aly, Simone and Shannon have all competed in multiple Olympic Games. Nastia earned almost as many as Aly did but at once. You gotta respect that no matter who is your personal favorite

I vote for Shannon Miller going up against the Soviet machine and almost winning AA gold in 1992. Nothing this country has ever done has matched that.
Where is Bart Conner, Kurt Thomas and Carly Patterson? Peter Vidmar was great but not as good as Bart and Kurt. And what about Mary Lou Retton? I disagree with the list. But all that are on here were great, no doubt. But some deserving ones were strangely left out.

Shannon Miller #1 !!! I know this vid is based upon Gold medals during her career, but nobody else has such a great line and artistry like hers.

Shannon Miller is my number one, loved her style of gymnastics, she could dance and was so elegant. And she was competing against a very deep field of Eastern European gymnasts (the last of the Soviets etc). Nastia is my number 2, beautiful lines and artistry. I loved her floor routine in 2008.
Please do it for Chinese,Russian and Japanese gymnast too 😍

J Morgan He did and Paul/Chinese gymnast were unquestionably the best and most talented gymnasts. The Korean gymnast had a wrong score, too. He has an absolute brilliant recovery after the fall.
@@Appaddict01 The Korean gymnast has a name, Yang Tae Young. Everyone knows he was cheated and that is why no one even mentions Hamm's name anymore. He took a medal he knows he didn't deserve.

Should be retitled "Top 10 USA OLYMPIC Gymnasts of All-Time" since you are only counting Olympic medals and not world titles. Other than that, good list.
It's the *Olympics* Gymnastics channel. what other medals would they be counting!?!
@@MD-722 I'm not necessarily saying they should count other medals. Only that the title is misleading as it fails to take into consideration other medals. The most objective metrics to rank accomplishments is by how internationally decorated a gymnast is. Consequently, this list does NOT reflect the "top 10 USA gymnasts of all time", but only the top 10 USA OLYMPIC gymnasts.
@@captainbryce1 Again, Olympic channel, so it is common sense that that is what they would mean when they say "Top 10 of all time" as they do not count medals from other major championships here; especially as several of them are from direct competitors of theirs.
If you don't have an AA medal at Worlds and the Olympics you shouldn't be on any top 10 list of gymnastics. Simone is a clear number one but I would much rather watch Shannon Miller. Carly Patterson should be on this list. She has a Worlds silver (AA)and a Gold at the Olympics.
I get that this is going by medal count, but Suni truly is above rank in every single way over Shawn Johnson and Aly (who are tremendous, obviously). Suni is the definition of an all-arounder.
Technically, Suni would've won silver if Simone had competed in the AA final, and Aly also has an Olympic silver, plus medals in 2 individual events-floor and beam (Suni only has one- in bars). Aly had the more difficult vault, so Suni is better than Aly only in bars (by a huge margin, definitely), but it makes Aly the better all-arounder.
Why was this bad beam routine picked for Aly? She was SOOOO solid on beam other than this :-( lol

I’m sorry but where is Kihei Uchimura from Japan in all of this?! He is 7-time Olympic medalist and a 21-time World Championship medalist! Equally where is Max Whitlock from the UK? He too is a 6-time Olympic medalist and an 8-time World Championship medalist.

This list is lacking. No disrespect to the talented people on it, but these are not the top 10 of all time.
Remembering that most of the best gymnasts who compete for the United States are naturalized. Because they don't have good gymnasts and they keep stealing from other countries.

Grossly inaccurate apart from Nastia. She was born in what was then the Soviet Union, but came to the US with her parents when she was little. Oh, and they all became American citizens.
- Suni Lee's family immigrated to the US from Vietnam (not China). Suni herself was born in St. Paul, Minnesota.
- Yul Moldauer and Morgan Hurd were born in South Korea and China respectively but were adopted by families in Colorado and Delaware.

Shannon Miller is the best US gymnast of all time....she had it all ..... artistry, poise, very high level of difficulty in everything she did and she did it with finesse. My second pick would be Domonique Dawes.
Um Simone Biles has more Olympic Gold medals, more World Championship Gold Medals, more National titles, and more moves named after her

That is my opinion and ill stick with it. Gymnastics is more than just the last 10 years it is also not just about throwing tricks...there is a balance and Simone does not have it all!. Plenty who have knowledge in the sport will agree.

She scored 15.2 and was placed 2nd in the qualifying, and won the bronze medal in UB in this year's Olympics!
