On the Bambi Zhu situation, I think Bambi's standing in the circle has changed, so what might have seemed like a good fit at the time may no longer work for her. I also am always a bit suspicious of male directors vilifying female actors like this... It's entirely possible that there is more to the story than either side is willing to tell....
I agree seems like everone wants recognition no one is thinking about acting and most of them can't...she really can, so am glad she pulled out. She seem to be such a sweetcoerson, strong willed though...good for you Bambi.

I feel for Bambi..Yu zheng is such an opportunist plagiarist and a frustrated clout chaser. How many actors have he dissed because of his ego and don't want to do anything with him..and those actors have continue to rise in the circle. What a slap to his fake face...sadly, this type of people tend to stay longer in c-ent circle and more well connected
It's karma for Yu Zheng. After the success of the Story of Yanxi Palace he sidelined Wu Jinyan. Yu Zheng can't make a rational decision by listening to unsolicited advices and reviews.

I agree with Bambi that unless there is a written contract signed, there is no agreement. The experienced producer should know this ! In the United States, anyone getting a home loan must sign an acknowledgement that all agreements are based on what’s written. Any oral agreement will not be recognized.

Sometimes billing issues seem to come from solo fans being ridiculous but with SAF4 it feels like the production team messed up. All this should have been sorted early on.
Yea, you're right, this one's a bit different from some previous cases as it's the actors' sides making the claims
Sword and Fairy 4 was filmed before Hidden Love. The billing problem started during shooting or late 2022 (while CZY was filming HL). Just wanted to clear that it's not like that his popularity last year caused billing issue.

The XuKai/Esther Yu Sword and Fairy trailer interested me more than the other one. I like CZY's acting, not so much JJY, so not sure whether I'll watch the other Sword and Fairy. From what I've read concerning the billing controversy, it was the production company pushing it. I don't know the tort law in China, but the first contract should hold more water than subsequent ones because the production company KNEW what it did first, thus it either knowingly committed fraud or a huge mistake. They should have followed the first contract and pay up big time for the mistake/misled to the second contractee.
As for the Yu Cheng controversy, gosh, it's a bit icky to publish private emails/text online without the other party's permission, isn't it? Also, back to tort law (haha), NO contract was signed here, so Bambi could sign with whomever she wished. Back to tea, it was understandable if she would agree to pay second lead to Ghulinazha (sorry if I spelt wrong) but prefer to back out to a relative newcomer. After all, like CZY, she too need to protect her rising status. Also, her agency did her wrong, talking smack about her behind her back like that. Ugh.
The drama behind the drama is more interesting these days, eh?! I'm here, eating melon seeds!

Thank you for explaining the whole Chinese Paladin aka Sword & Fairy drama series again. Once you started explaining, I remembered from before when you explained it. Up till then, I was rather confused. I'm currently watching the S&F with Esther Yu & Xu Kai.

P.s. When I traveled with my 18-mo old daughter, I had to be careful of the air pressure change. So I chewed gum & had her suck on a bottle or pacifier. Also paid for an extra seat & took a car seat. Other than that, she did well. Wishing you all safe travels.

Oh, dear. Is he still nursing? If so, have him nurse during take-off & landing.
If not, there are those pureed fruit snacks that they suck on to get the fruit out. Anything that will encourage him to suck or move his jaw will help relieve the altitude pressure so he doesn't get an earache.
It happened to me once. I couldn't hear clearly for three weeks. The condition was awful! Now I take plain "Sudafed" about an hour before take-off, if I have a cold or stuffy nose when flying.

I think yu zheng should had given a contract to her. it's more binding than words in the industry. honestly if an actress gets a chance to be first lead, she'll probably take it. it's even more so if she has almost always been second leads at best or mere supporting actor at worst.
And if you are tslking about Zhu she does not deserve 2nd she is a great actress. Reminds me of Bette Davis, she had to gight for good roles and Bette was an excellent actress, she fought the big bosses, she lost but @ that time no womsn was bold enuff to do it. We talking about the 40s and 50s, but they gave ger better parts. Hang in there Zhu you are worth it .

If the director was ready to start filming as mentioned, it defies logic why BZ was not locked into a contract already. Since she wasn't locked into a contract, it's like any employment, you can be furloughed at any time and you also have the right to resign your position at any time.

These titles make me crazy. Thanks for the explanation for "Sword and Fairy". Marcus. But so many times I go into My Dramalist and find one title to have several different dramas and I don't understand why that is. There must be a way to name dramas different names.
I am liking "My Boss" a lot, but once again I was too quick to get involved with the drama and it hadn't even finished the airing of all the episodes. So I am having to wait for the next episodes to air with Eng Subs. I've started "My Interpreter" but it's a bit hard to understand in some of the dialog. AND yet another drama that hasn't aired all their episodes. So I have to be careful how many I watch. But I'm enjoying it and I do like the actors from other dramas. And like what has happened before, I'm watching two dramas at the same time with the same actor. In this case it's Chen Xing Xu. Two completely different characters and eras.
I have a question for whomever can tell me. Why is Happy Life on the list of weekly top ten and yet on My Dramalist, it shows it hasn't even premiered? #confused.. ha

Bambi has been the first female C actress I admire my first C Drama Miss The Dragon . I miss seeing her onscreen. With regards to negotiating a project , I don’t think Bambi should be blame for any miscommunication. She has a handler who should negotiate within her capacity . Of course she has a voice but kinda find this guy amusing ,just to steer up an upcoming show and blame her
Regarding Bambi Zhu. The producer thought she looked good and was going to give her a chance. But he wasn't going to give her a contract? Sounds like he was trying to leave himself away out if he found somebody he liked better. If I were her I would go with the sure thing that would be the one with the contract in hand. To misquote a popular song if you like it then you should have put a contract on it

I started watching SW4 and it’s actually pretty good so far. JJY’s acting has somewhat improved. As for the billing commotion; my stance is, write a clearly written contract, have lawyers present on both sides when reading and signing so everything is fair. Otherwise, to me personally, billing doesn’t matter. Acting and a good storyline speak for themselves.

Well, she sort of convinced him to cast her and they were ready to film when she pulled out. Couldn't she have asked for a contract once he agreed? Couldn't he have offered her a contract once he decided to give her a chance? Both are equally at fault, I think.
I dropped both My Boss and Frozen Surface actually so don't know about that. But agree with Blossoms Shanghai even though I haven't seen it yet.

The original chinese paladin with Hu Ge and Liu yifei is the best, followed by Hu Ge and Yang Mi.
I have seen CP 1 skip 3 then watched 5. I couldn’t get over the separation of the second couple in CP5. I will try to watch both sword and fairy to see which one I like better. 😊

At first I thought, 'how bad of that actress to pull out at the last minute'. Then I thought about it from her point of view. If they were so close to filming and she still had no written contract I think she had a right to pull out. She has a living to make, and if someone else offers her a written contract in the meantime, I think she had a right to take the safe option. Maybe that producer will learn not to ask people to put their lives on hold , on the basis of a vague promise, in future. I doubt he will, though.
Because of the costume drama demand that leads be pretty/handsome and young, these actors have a short window of time in which to make the big money. Once they hit forty, many of them quit the business. Few make the transition to older roles. I can understand actors wanting to cram in as much as they can, while they're in demand.
In Bambi's case i think a contract was in order... Maybe she waited for it and when it wasn't forth coming she signed another. What if she assured herself and then another person was given the contract... She was just playing it safe. Also she is partially right, if they found her that valuable they should have tried to sign the contract earlier. It's like they thought she would just wait it out at their beck and call. 😮

Regarding the "controversy" surrounding Bambi Z apparently back trekking on a "verbal" agreement, my take on it is that although a responsible person will keep "a promise" made, an "open verbal" promise of the type under focus is never a particularly "good" idea. Which is why written contracts exist! The whole incident is most likely a case of too much spontaneous enthusiasm on one side (Bambi Z) & a good degree of calculated business interest on the other (the producer). I doubt if thirds have been told the whole story behind this matter!
I’m a new chinese drama fan so it’s nice to hear some back story and updates from you. I love hidden love and I hope CZY career will be smooth sailing. It is scary to hear this controversies. I don’t want it to happen to my favorite cdrama actors. Thanks again Marcus💗 have fun on your vacation.
I don't know how to reconcile one claim of top billing with another claim of same billing. either one side lied or the production lied.
Im thinking since it's gotten to this point, surely they can show parts of the contract that stipulate their claim as proof
that would be the easiest way to dispute the claims. Sadly we will never know.
