  • I walked to Warwick to ring for evensong there. I got there an hour early , so wandered round the church. The organist was rehearsing the voluntary and various bits of the service. I decided to make a video of the Beauchamp Chapel to share wich you all, because it is very beautiful!
Brilliant youtube users have confirmed the organ music to be a bit of improvisation , followed by Duruflé's Carillon in A minor. Please remember this was the organist practising. Not that I can hear any mistakes.

How fabulous! The Effigy of Richard de Beauchamp in the Beauchamp Chapel of St Mary's Church, Warwick. Is my 10x + Great Grandfather. The finest piece of English 15th-century bronze sculpture, modelled and cast by William Austen of London, gilded and engraved by Bartholomew Lambespring, a Dutch goldsmith.

A wonderful church to have a wander round! It's years since I visited but it's one of my favourites. Never rung there though, or heard the organ, which is quite notoriously difficult to play.

The British sure know how to build such stunning churches and equally stunning pipe organs, wish that could be like here in the U.S.

Love this video. Not shown in the video, but in the chapel straight back from the high altar and pulpit is the tomb of Thomas Beauchamp, 11th Earl of Warwick and his wife Lady Catherine Mortimer whose daughter Maud Beauchamp, wife of Thomas, 5th Lord Clifford, was ancestral to several English gentry immigrants to the American colonies who were in turn ancestors of my parents. I will be in England this summer visiting some of the old ancestral homes but I won't get to see St. Mary's, the Beauchamp tombs or Warwick Castle unfortunately.

It's the Fugue sur le thème du carillon des heures de la cathédrale de Soissons, by Durufle.

It is certainly a possibilty that he was improvising
