I have the long-awaited 4K UHD disc of True Lies. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this disc, especially as it pertains to the use of DNR and the "waxy" appearance of certain actors. Is it really that bad, or are the complaints overblown? Let's discuss!

1. The original camera negative was in such terrible condition that it is incredible that they were able to save the film at all. Blame the studio for not protecting its assets, not Jim.
2. AI technology is consistently used on new blu ray and 4K releases and has been for years.

Thanks for the review of Tru Lies. Even review at Blu Ray forum says some may like the 1080 Blu ray, over the 4K. Got my pre-order from Target yesterday. Really glad because it appears to have sold out. At least for now.
shame there is no Blu-ray of this to fall back on - we really got screwed on True Lies 😮

"Uneven looking" is what is preventing me from purchasing this. But, yes, I haven't owned it since VHS.
This is why I never pre order movies I always wait for reviews
I rather have grain than than wax so I'll pass just hoping Aliens gets a better review
It’s just so bizarre that Cameron took this approach. The movie does look really great at times, but then there are scenes that really made me cringe with how “smudged” peoples’ faces look. 😬
Atmos was weak as well. Very lackluster in the bass department especially. Aliens was significantly better, and for an older movie, too.
What set-up do you own??? PC speakers???
I honestly think Cameron should allow others to do these restorations. It looks so bad in some scenes it’s distracting. Atmos had some nice effects at least. So far I watched the 4K blu and the stream, I hope the 1080p blu is better.
James Cameron just thinks different. Thats why he is James Cameron. Love him or hate him (i love him) - he is James Cameron.
Im a fan of film grain also my favorites so far this year is Red Rock West and Southern comfort from venagar
Yes, it is a disaster😝, but what the hell I'm still going to watch it in the waxie AI upscale / DNR or whatever the duck 🦆 Mr. James Cameron came up with😄 Well, at least for the sake of good old memories when I was younger👶and I was still able to like the movie 😂😂😂
Dnr, ai upscaked is what makes this release so great, of I actually liked the movie more, I'd buy this version
