In this video belly dancer Jensuya talks about the pros and cons of learning to belly dance as young person and the surprising advantage of beginning belly dance as a mature person. @Black and red Nails great question! And a big one to answer. First, I think, it depends on what you define as a "belly dancer." If you mean having fun dancing in the aesthetic or "look" and technique of belly dance, then from Day 1 I think you can be a belly dancer. Like all art forms, there is no point at which we say, "now I'm a belly dancer." It is a constant learning and evolving and getting better (hopefully!) Many belly dancers begin performing after just a few months. I think that is great! And it is fun. There is much more to discuss about this. Thank you for asking the question. I want to do a video on it. 😉

    My daughter purchased 4 belly dance lessons for me for Christmas when she signed up herself. We both started in January 2024; I got hooked and am now going to classes each week on my own as well as watching online videos (like yours). I will be 73 soon. It's NEVER too late to start! I'm taking classes with women of all ages and am having so much fun! It's great exercise and a terrific way to meet new friends. I may not look as youthful or be as flexible as the younger women in class, but it really doesn't matter. Thank you for this encouraging video! I hope it inspires other senior adult women.

    Hi, I found a tutorial video of yours 6 days ago, and I feel like you've changed my life. I had become very sedentary the last few years, I felt myself getting heavier and flabbier by the day. I'm 55 years old, and when I was 46 I had a very unexpected pregnancy that ended in miscarriage, the sadness of the tragedy and the hormones being all over the place left me in a depression and took my desire to be an active person, so really is almost a decade of no real physical activity. The last few months with a change in my diet and medication I finally feel like I'm out from under the cloud I've been under so long. I felt like I could start being active and I started walking. But I live in the Houston, TX area and the heat and humidity is already starting to sneak back in, so I was looking for an indoor activity and found you!! In just 6 days you are such a bright spot in my day. Already I go to bed thinking about what video I might watch the next day, I wake up and start to glide to the kitchen instead of walk. While I make my morning matcha I do hip sways and hip drops. I've ordered some pony beads to make a hip scarf. You are an inspiration, and I have started calling you my guru. I just looked up guru to make sure I was using the word correctly and it does mean a mentor, guide, expert in a certain field, but the literal translation is "dispeller of darkness"!! Wow how fitting, I had just called you a bright spot in my day, so you are my true Guru!! Thank you for being you!!!

    I would like to add....even though I think that this might have been implied if not specifically mentioned....that another huge reason that "older" bellydancers cannot go 2 or 3 hours in a practice is because we are mostly in a different stage of adult life than your average 22 year old woman. I'm in my 40's, raising 2 kids and homeschooling them, running a household, involved in scouting activities, etc. There just isn't the time I used to have when I was 22.

    I'm 45 y.o. And just start to practice bellydance. (Only learn from youtube tutorials. I can't afford dance class). But I've been practicing yoga since 5 years ago. I've nailed front split (one of my goal pose) in 55 days during my beginning yoga practice(4 hoours/day). I also nailed some pretty difficult yoga poses too. So, do you think I still have chance to practice bellydance safely in my age now? But ofcourse I won't over do my moves. I practice 30 mins, 3-4 times a week. Just for fun, killing time, but hopefully can do it beautifully as you do. ☺ Btw I prefer tribal belly dance than the oriental. Because the music the moves and the rhytm in tribal is slower than in the oriental belly dance. :)

      @cee rayn, that is absolutely wonderful!! Yes! Not only do you have a "chance," with practice (and your yoga) you will, for sure get many, many hours of love and joy from belly dance. I would love to help you in your belly dance journey, and I am so glad you found this video. If you already know the terms, "tribal" and "oriental," I'm guessing you've already done some belly dancing? I don't think the name of the style really matters-there is no standard nomenclature for this art form. Number one, have fun with your dance journey. Choose music that you love, and practice finding the beat in it, then doing the moves with the beat. I don't know what you particularly like, but a great way to practice is to do our 5 Minute Workouts-especially the playlist of beginner drills. We take one move at a time and practice it with Bob playing the drum. Here's the link: bit.ly/JBDBeginDrills Also, be sure to watch the videos in the New to Belly Dance Playlist: bit.ly/JBDNewToBDStartHere Keep us posted on your progress. Welcome!! ❤️

    Hi, I'm almost 40 and one of my girls dreams is to take belly dance lessons. I stumbled at one of your videos and I loved it! Just a question: what is the difference between all your RUclips videos and taking the course? Does the course does really add something new or is it a mix from all your RUclips videos? Thank you so much in advance.

      @Petra Partout, this is such a great question, and one that I get often (which is why we're in production right now of a video which explains the difference between our RUclips content and the course). The key to deciding if the course will be right for you is this: if you love our RUclips content and it makes you want to be able to belly dance to your own favorite music (or belly dance music) without me guiding you, the course will teach you how to do that. That being said, we do have a preview video of the course which you should watch as it shows how the course works. Here's the link to the video: ruclips.net/video/WJy30p7YYhw/видео.html In a nutshell, what the course teaches you is how to belly dance on your own to any music, whereas our RUclips tutorials give you "tastes" of belly dance. We teach you the technique of moves AND how to understand rhythm so you can decide what moves to dance and then match the moves to the music. We have meticulously developed and arranged the lessons and practice sessions for you to build your dance and develop your skills at exactly the right pace for you. We go into much more detail and practice in the course than we do in the RUclips tutorials. By the end of the course, you'll have a solid foundation in belly dance. school.jensuya.com/p/how-to-belly-dance-online-course-for-beginners 🥰 I also want to clarify that the course videos are completely new videos; they are NOT the RUclips videos. ❤️ I hope you join us in the course!

      @@JensuyaBellyDance Thank you so much for your clear and detailed answer, I really appreciate it. I've seen already a couple of videos and went to your website forth and back! Your videos make sense and you explain everything so well! I already took a course via Udemy with Iana Komarnytska since the 4th of April before I stumbled at one of your videos. I think it is always good to learn something from two different teachers to have different perspectifs and methods. But somehow, I have to be honest, there is something in your personality which attracts me. So loving and sweet and I decide that I will purchase your course!

      @Prajakta Shimpi, I am so happy to welcome you to belly dance! Yes, for sure, belly dance, especially coupled with yoga, has been absolutely wonderful for keeping me flexible as I get older. And it is so good for the mind, too...learning the rhythm and learning to move with the rhythm. It's just great! I agree with you about Rachel Brice. Isn't she amazing?! I invite you to subscribe and learn from our tutorials and workouts. You'll find lots of playlists on the channel. If you are interested in an in-depth online course, take a look at our "Introduction to Belly Dance." 🥰 school.jensuya.com/p/how-to-belly-dance-online-course-for-beginners

    How long does it take to practice before performing professional

    • @JensuyaBellyDance
      @JensuyaBellyDance  3 года назад

      That's a big question, @Skylight! "Professional" means something different to everyone. Here's what I suggest, enjoy the process of learning the technique and skills of belly dance, costuming, make-up, negotiating gigs, entertaining an audience-these are all part of being "professional." A great way to begin is to perform for your friends and family. We have many playlists on the channel that can help you: bit.ly/JBDHaflaSkillsPlaylist bit.ly/JBDPerformanceSkillsPlaylist bit.ly/JBDPerfPlaylist bit.ly/JBDCostumePlaylist As well as the technique playlists. 🥰

    I m 23 year old can i do belly dance

    • @JensuyaBellyDance
      @JensuyaBellyDance  4 года назад +2

      Aiwa! Yes! @Priyanka dam, I recommend you do one of our 5 Minute Workouts for beginners (bit.ly/JBDBeginDrills) then do the technique video that goes with it (bit.ly/JBDHowToBDPlaylist) then practice the workouts as often as you like. The great thing about starting belly dance at your age is that you will be able to practice longer (than if you were older) and not get sore. Let me know how you do! Welcome to belly dance! ❤️
