2021...enjoyed this very much. During this time of a cross the entire whole world I have found great joy watching anything British (my fave). I have only left my house for doctor appointments for a year now. Thank you for the upload.
Diane they just put me On hospice. I am really scared I do not know what's left ? My husband of 34yrs is now in a nursing home. But I am only 67 is life over already
Dear Annie, I was watching a clip from Enchanted April and stumbled onto this site. I'm not sure why I chose to open up Diane's comment to view the replies. But when I read your post about being on hospice and being scared, I felt I should tell you what I believe in the hope that it will give you peace and comfort. I've been devoted to Jesus Christ since I was 12 and believe that He is truly the Son of God as He claimed. He has answered so many specific prayers of mine throughout my life and has been so faithful. Well according to His Word, the Bible, this life is not all there is by a long shot. It is a drop in the bucket. Jesus came to this world to take the consequences for the sin of humankind on the cross and then rose again because He is God. He has promised eternal life to all who admit their wrongs to Him and ask forgiveness and receive Him as Lord. My dad died during an operation and the doctors were not able to revive him. During the 20 minutes he was dead, he got a glimpse of heaven and spoke briefly with Jesus before he was sent back to his body. He lived another 30 year, against what the doctors said would happen. I have always believed the Bible but my dad's experience simply confirmed that belief. I've spoken with others who got a brief glimpse of heaven and they said it was beautiful but that the thing that stood out the most was the intense love of Jesus for them. Ask Him into your life, my friend. The fear will be replaced by His peace. God bless you.

What a fabulous film. That it has taken so long to catch up with this film is surprising. I'm sure I have seen it somewhere before but relished the relive. Jeanne Moreau, along with all the other wonderful actors and Actresses ( I stipulate the feminine because of "Woke's" idea of it is the antithesis to it and I register my protest thereby) are a tonic for the soul. Joan Plowright is an old favourite. How to capture the essence of this era is seen in the marvellous costuming.
HURRAH! Someone uploaded a quality version of this to RUclips - THANK YOU so much, it is a great movie and Jeanne Moreau is fantastic and glamorous! Big kiss! XXX
xoxo right back at you! I'll probably be arrested for copyright infringement. This is my favorite movie. Jeanne Moreau IS amazing. So, here's the story: I ADORE this movie and was willing to pay to own it but alas it wasn't available so I looked on eBay and bought a laser disc (yes, the LP-sized things) then I MAILED it to the other end of the U.S. and had it digitized, and here we are. I love the desert 🏜️scenes. They are so slow--the cadence, the rhythm --so relaxing. The sun☀️ shimmers off the skin. The heat, u can feel, as the haze envelops the characters🌅. I was once in Egypt but I didn't slow down enough to really enjoy it. And to think this film was made in 2017 and is Jeanne Moreau died in 2017 at the age of 89. How marvelous🌃 I hope she is enjoying heaven😇 and it's not too boring for her. I'm sure she'll🌬️ liven it up.🌄🌈☄️
This BBC film was released in 1993, when Jeanne Moreau was 65. Incredible that it's now 30 years old! She looked fabulous and what a wonderful role Lili was for her - perfect casting! As you mentioned, the divine Miss Moreau died in 2017 aged 89. She worked right up to 2015 but it seems the last two years of her life were not great, as she hated not working and said she felt the world had forgotten her. Highly unlikely - Jeanne Moreau is unforgettable!

I watch this move several times a year because I love seeing all of these wonderful actresses working together. What a fabulous film! So many amazingly funny yet low-key lines….they almost slip by you but then you hear them and they are magnificent! One of my most favorites. Fabulous cast. Perfect!
Wonderful film. Recognised a young Lena Headly immediately....Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones. Outstanding performances from Moreau, Plowright and Walters.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this! I very nearly didn't watch it because I can't abide the brash, annoying characters Julie Walters usually plays - but she played her part in this so well that I realise she is, in fact, a first-rate actress - such a pity she has been so typecast, though most people seem to like her that way. I myself particularly enjoyed this production as I was a kid living in Egypt at around the time this story was set and it was all so true to how I remember it from all that time ago, wonderful nostalgia for me. Thank you so very much for giving us the opportunity of watching this truly great stuff!
I loved JW for decades, both in dramas and as a comedienne. But she was so dreadful in Mamma Mia (albeit in a movie that seemed determined to destroy ABBAS legacy in 100 ways)…that it took seeing her in some amazing TV (Mo, National Treasure etc) before I could see her the same way again. I can only imagine she was so Star struck when working with Streep that she collapsed internally.

Yes, it’s a fabulously funny and extremely entertaining movie, with lots of cynical and vastly amusing comments by Joan and Jeanne. Saw it years ago and had it on VHS tape. @@christinebarker5248 Yes, it's a great novel and as you mention, cleverly written in 3 parts, from the point of view of three characters - Margaret, Mrs Monro and Lili.
Joan Plowright is one of my favorites!
Fabulous actress 😊
Glad she married Laurence.
Strong woman, excellent actress.
I loved her in Enchanted April
I had this as a VHS for years. Just love it.
What a great film, I loved the conversations with Lili and Joan Plowright and what an ending, I laughed and laughed.
Loved Lili and Mrs Monro, especially when they were drunk. lol
There's no other word for her - Jeanne Moreau is Marvellous :)
This is one of my favorites and I can't tell you how many times I've seen it. That you so much for posting it.
You're welcome!
@@mattjayes7710 OMG you did all that to achieve this wonderful copy and put it on RUclips? You really are a superstar!
Over the years I have searched to buy this film myself without success. I appreciate your efforts so much - I have watched it twice this week!
It is such an overlooked gem, a great story, superb cast and made with such wonderful attention to detail, you really do feel you are in post-war Croydon! I really can't imagine why it was never put on dvd for people to buy.
I am currently a terrible insomniac, I lost my dear dog to an aggressive cancer 3 months ago after 13 sweet years together, it was a sad blow. It's a great comfort to find quality entertainment like this to watch in the wee small hours when sleep eludes me. Bless you. your hard work has brought comfort to someone in need. Sending you love and luck, and wishing you all you wish yourself! XXX
@@mattjayes7710 My favourite movie too! Thank you so much!!!
@@mattjayes7710 I’ve never seen this movie before. 📀Thank you. Feb., 2021
Love this movie.... haven't seen it in decades... thank you very much...it's a wonderful gift.
I'm sure she'll🌬️ liven it up.🌄🌈☄️
She was extraordinary in this film!!!
I saw it on VHS back in the late 1980’s - it was made long before 2017
This BBC film was released in 1993, when Jeanne Moreau was 65.
This was just fabulous. It has made my day. Fantastic actresses and such a fun plot. Thanks from the bottom of my heart 💫
OMG thank you. Have looked for this for years not remembering the title or actors but never forgetting how much I enjoyed it. Popcorn time!
Yes, however ...There is another great film titled " The Summer House", starring Sandra Bullock;
Who arranged the MUSICAL INTRO here ? Sort of ruined wanting to watch the movie; and we really like BBC Crime Mysteries; but that INTRO came directly from a song sung in Farci, titled (excuse my enunciations and spellings ) Pashie Moona MuMishi but that other recording was much more full and dynamic. ANYONE ? Didn't that intro "originate " in a piece by a famous Iranian composer ? I just don't speak enough languages to be able to figure this one out....

Had never heard of this film here in mid-America. Terrific movie with very talented actors. Will look for more films with these actors!
I kept waiting for this movie to make it's Point, and in the end, what a Point it was, lol proving how Originality is the best medicine for the prosaic when Truth needs to be seen and heard....breaking cultural conventions of pretense. Great movie.
It's amazing-- both Joan Plowright and Jeanne Moreau are playing twenty years off their true ages, and you'd barely know it.
Love it! Shades of home on the Nile. Born in Khartoum. Dad Cairo. Thanks for upload. Great costumes!
yep top marks! A great cast of wonderful actors with an original storyline, highly entertaining.
what a pleasure to watch jeanne moreau!
🤣”. . . I’m not doing well. I’m bordering on hysteria! . . .” Best line in the movie, as said by Joan P.👏🏽👏🏽🤭🤣🤣 Absolutely, fab movie 🎥. Thanks for uploading!😉
What a wonderful find, just loved it.
First time watching the film and what a delight,
Thank you,
Wonderful!! Two acting legends. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Great movie. Thank you.
An original! A classic! The plot! The Actors! I was hooked from start to finish. Hats' off to Matt for the upload. If there was a"Lily" for all of the Margarets" in this world there would be no need for divorce attorneys'.
oh so agree
I would have liked to have seen her refuse to marry by her own power. Standing in ones own power is most sacred.

My glorious Belgian mother was a "Lily." She cut through the mustard and brightened everyone's lives.
Thanks for posting this beautiful print of this great movie. I have a dvd of it that I made from an old vhs tape which is really grainy and hard to see. I watch this move several times a year because I love seeing all of these wonderful actresses working together. It will be such a joy to be able to watch this clear, bright, colorful print from now on.
Moreau just takes acting to a higher level - even in the company of Waters and Plowright
Jeanne Moreau: une sublime comédienne.
I loved this movie so much when I first saw it and have been looking for it for years. Thank you❤❤
What a fabulous film! So many amazingly funny yet low-key lines….they almost slip by you but then you hear them and they are magnificent! One of my most favorites. Fabulous cast. Perfect!
❤❤❤❤❤
Brilliant...everything about it...the cast and script...loved it..
Wonderful film. Recognised a young Lena Headly immediately....Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones.
Outstanding performances from Moreau, Plowright and Walters.
WONDERFUL FILM !! Great acting .So enjoyable .BIG THANK YOU x
I LOVE THIS! ❤ You must watch to the end - you’ll never guess!
That was the best wedding gift ever given anyone...
especially since it was about not being a wedding gift.
I loved this 🙃🙂💕.
Wow sounds like a great watch now enjoying it
I saw this film 25+ years ago and have been unable to find it since! I've wanted to watch it again many times. Thank you!
Splendid! Thank you. Smiles.
Adorable, great acting and plot
Thank you….this one will last with me❤
Absolutely loved it ❤
BRILIANT !!!! thank you x
The “A touch of the palsy” is a technique i will make use of in future lol
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this! I very nearly didn't watch it because I can't abide the brash, annoying characters Julie Walters usually plays - but she played her part in this so well that I realise she is, in fact, a first-rate actress - such a pity she has been so typecast, though most people seem to like her that way. I myself particularly enjoyed this production as I was a kid living in Egypt at around the time this story was set and it was all so true to how I remember it from all that time ago, wonderful nostalgia for me. Thank you so very much for giving us the opportunity of watching this truly great stuff!
I live there now and also loved it.
"One must never expect happiness from marriage.... A few quiet moments if you're lucky. An occasional date that doesn't incite you to murder..." Okay, I'm all in.
Brilliant. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful movie 🎬
Yes, it’s a fabulously funny and extremely entertaining movie, with lots of cynical and vastly amusing comments by Joan and Jeanne. Saw it years ago and had it on VHS tape. I once had a friend who had a smoker's laugh just like Lili. People like that are, unfortunately rare, but great fun to be with if you’re lucky enough.
I love a raspy laugh, unfortunately the only time my voice sounded like that is if I have a heavy cold.
I got my vhs version copied onto a disc at a shop that does that sort of thing. Also, it comes from a book which is written in 3 parts. The Fly In The Ointment; The clothes in the Wardrobe and I can’t think of the 3rd section.

@@christinebarker5248 Yes, it's a great novel and as you mention, cleverly written in 3 parts, from the point of view of three characters - Margaret, Mrs Monro and Lili.
Well worth a read - the author Alice Thomas Ellis was a very talented writer. It's funny and moving, in equal measure. The only aspect of the book I didn't like, was that Mrs Monro's elderly dog died, that broke my heart!
What a great woman she was Lily, wasn't she! Even I feel grateful to her.
I wish I could have done something like that, but I know , I would be too selfish for that.
Exceedingly Scrumptious ❤️ Thank you for uploading this.
Saw this movie years and years ago. Great movie!
What a great trio - Plowright, Walters, and Moreau. If you haven't seen it, watch Louis Malle's ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS, one of Moreau's early films.
Exactly my kind of movie! 👏 Thank you. Several of the actors were also in Harry Potter. 😊
Hi I'm a Jeanne too. Thanks for posting a great movie.

Love to have seen Joan and Maggie Smith in a film. That would be a treasure.
That was awesome. Fantastic end. Just how a film should end hahaha

OMG. Me too!!
best movie ever! thanks!!
I have long been a fan of Joan Plowriight and Julie Walters. Brilliant.
Thank you, Matt.
Have a nice day.
it's amazing Moreau lived to be 89 with all her smoking, and making at least 100 films.
Oh please 🥺🥶🤐🍋💯
I've been looking high and low for this movie. THANK YOU for uploading it. Haven't seen it since it was released. Such an odd film. But worth it for Julie, Joan and Jeanne

I have never seen this movie 🎬, love the opening already.❤ love Joan, she was a brilliant stage actor, great friends of Judy Dench, Maggie Smith. She was married to Laurence Olivier when she was young. She went blind years before she died. 😢.
Great play, great acting. thank you!
Why is everyone complaining about the sound!?
I've heard it just fine.
If you asking, I heartily recommend it, funny and great acting.
