(Trigger alert about sexual assault) people like this is who you need to watch out for, especially in the beginning. Don’t ignore red flags. Freshman year of college, I moved to a completely new city where I knew no one. I would go to this one gym very often and a guy, a few years older than me, would come up and talk to me on several occasions while I was working out. One day he approached me as I was walking to my car and asked to take me out. I was kinda taken back by it, not knowing if I should say yes or no yet but he was very pushy and I felt like I didn’t have any time to think about it. He just said get in my car, we can get some ice cream. Being a people pleaser can really land you in some dangerous situations.. I am a huge one. He was a good looking guy, was in the army, was well off financially because he drove a fancy sports car. But those things I could care less about. If I was going to give anyone a chance no matter who they are, we both have to connect on an emotional level first. Speaking to anyone especially young teens and adults, it doesn’t make a difference if someone is rich or poor when it comes to sexual assault. Don’t just jump
In a fancy car with a handsome guy just because you feel pressure or think his car is nice. It’s still important to be very cautious. Anyways, we went back to his place and I was kinda weirded out. I am definitely not ignorant of ways of the people who just want to get in my pants. He went into the kitchen and came back out and handed me a glass of tequila. He pressured me to drink as “he didn’t want to drink alone.” I know this is a very stupid thing to do -which is why I’m sharing this in the first place so whoever reads this might never make this mistake- but I decided it should be alright to drink with him. I’m not trying to make excuses only speaking from the truth of my experience - he was very charming but extremely dominant and pushy. After I finished just one glass, he just grabbed my face and started making out with my face. No offense but it was pretty gross as I wasn’t really returning it. I kept thinking, “this guy is only trying to get in my pants and that this is weird. red flag red flag, leave now.” But there was another conflicting voice that was saying “I can’t leave, I just drank something…” It was a bit of a drive back to my place, so I decided to stay there until I sobered up. After he quit slobbering on me, we did talk for a little bit then what do you know, he started up again and picked me up and carried me up the stairs. I was saying uhh this is really not a good idea. I do not want to do anything. And he said we won’t we won’t. Don’t worry. But what do you know, after a minute or so, he holds me down on the bed aggressively and I was yelling get off of me, get off of me. He was pulling down my underwear and trying to have sex with me. I was freaking out inside because I thought maybe I wasn’t going to be able to leave that night.. he kept doing this and was shoving his tongue down my throat so I wouldn’t make any noise. I’m still not sure if it was just the alcohol or the person that he was that made him act this way.. anyways after a few minutes (which felt like eternity) I was able to push him off. I was so angry inside and I let it out on him. I said it was not okay, that I’m leaving. He tried gaslighting me and saying ‘what did I do, what did I do.’ I was scared for my safety 100%. I got my stuff, went into my car, and called my mom crying on the phone. I never talked to him or hung out with him again, even though he tried to text me and ask me why I wouldn’t talk to him. Be careful ladies AND men. You never really know someone like you think. I know this is a long story, I apologize but if I can help even one one other person from experiencing a traumatic experience, it’s worth it.
