I love that painting, on many levels; the hues, the communion, the bond, the sharing, they till the earth, at one with nature, and on and on.
For those who have lost touch with poverty, here are some numbers. In the West, average daily intake is 3000 calories. in Asian countries is is 2300 calories low protein diet. The poor manage with 1500 cal. In poor countries tea intake is high. Very touching to see the two older people, mother refilling coffee as they wait their turn for the potato dish. It's that 'thing; with mothers.
Very interesting the inside of @vangoghmuseum 💗💗💗
wow they're drinking coffee and eating potatoes, this is like my most recent walmart haul
Very well explained, Thankyou! It helps me a lot.
If you have a good eye, you'd immediately see their faces Van Gogh saw as donkeys. He drew them looking like donkeys from all the hard work and poverty. The baby he can't show, nor can he look at her face, breaks his heart.
it felt perfect.
Makes me think of an apprentice Thomas Hart Benton. At first blush I see a slave hovel in the antebellum US South.
Dreaming of eating French Fries 🍟 or Pringles in front of this masterpiece. 🥔🤤
Eating in the museum is not allowed I'm afraid. Top Tip: you can enjoy the Potato Eaters on our website!
@VanGoghMuseum Thanks for your kindly advise~
Yess 👍♥️!!
Wow
what type of canvas (material) was used by Mr. Van Gogh when he made this artwork?
I first found the style of the people here to be overly crude, almost characature, but was very surprised to see a brief 1930s TCM movie channel travel documentary on the Netherlands which showed wooden-clog wearing farmers smiling at the camera and looking * exactly * like them! Same exact blunt- ended features, rather scooping turned up nose with again, blunt squarish end... Iow, he was doing what he always did - painting what he saw
Van Gogh was authentic, unique, profound, and a non-conformist. This video is disappointing in that the music is intrusive and distracting, and the realization that the Van Gogh Museum decision makers have hired someone so stereotypically conforming and "acceptable" in appearance...young, blond, upwardly bound in choice of clothing and hair style; not that far from being a Barbie Doll. I expected to experience not a sense of plasticity, but a sense of revelation and wonder from an exploration by the esteemed institution.
