  • ‘And when I painted landscape in Asnières this summer I saw more colour in it than before.’
Vincent van Gogh to his sister Willemien van Gogh, late October 1887
Walk through our exhibition 'Van Gogh along The Seine'.
In the 19th century, bridges and trains made it easier to visit places outside of Paris. And yet smoking factory chimneys increasingly dominated the horizon. This exhibition reveals how artists captured these changes in their artworks. On view at the Van Gogh Museum from 13 October until 2023 14 January 2024.

My husband and I traveled from Boston to view this exhibit on Monday. We would like to thank our guide Bernadette for her unbelievable kindness. Bernadette is a true scholar who is passionate about teaching others about the works and life of Vincent. Bernadette and Van Gogh museum were the highlight of our trip!

Thank you for this tour along the Seine with Vincent's fabulous paintings.

Beautiful exhibition expertly curated. I wish more time was spent on some of the smaller works. Very difficult to absorb the images with the limited views of many of the works. Nonetheless, an outstanding offering.

Thank you for the lovely tour but I wish the paintings were filmed closer...it's difficult to appreciate Vincent's incredible brush work unless you are standing in front of it but a closer view would be better.

I have no choice but to be an “armchair” student of Van Gogh, so this comment does not apply to the exhibition but to the video only. It took a while for me to realize that *many* of the paintings in the video are not by Van Gogh. I think it would be more educational and less misleading if the video included captions or some other mechanism for showing the artist and the work’s title. Breezily panning by the wall labels isn’t sufficient, especially when most are not readable in any language. I realize this is a challenge to produce when so many different languages might be needed, but it would be more true to the exhibition. I would gladly pay a portion of the in-person entrance fee to have a guided audio tour of the exhibition with the art being central to each “stop” along the way.

Your title is misleading. At least pan in closer to the description cards so we can easily see the names of the various artists who painted these works.

We are sorry to hear that.
The exhibition is called 'Van Gogh along the Seine'.
This video starts with an info card in the right upper corner. If you click on it, it will redirect you to our website with more information about the exhibition. It is not our intention to mislead our audience, subscribers and followers. We hope you liked the paintings in this video.

I went back to the beginning over the video and had to actively look for a teeny weeny black rectangle with the beginning of a phrase. It just took me to what I know as the video description. The description does not acknowledge any of the other artists in the exhibition. Also, it would be most appreciated if the videographer would film directly facing the paintings so that they are not at an angle. It would also be helpful if the videographer would show the description card of each work. We can then pause the video on the card to learn more about each work. RUclips is a distinct video platform. It is wonderful for those who cannot travel the world to visit international exhibits.

Why did he become famous?? His work is nothing compared to the greater French Naturalists.
I wish that Janson’s Bible of art history would be replaced by great painters from all over the world. Not just European men.. Ennui, ad nauseum
