    Girl I feel your pain. I try and fail soooooo many times. I try to reuse and repurpose but I just keep adding to the pile. Lack of drive and energy are very real. Every time I look at the pile could lay down and sleep for a day.

    Powerful video, thank you for sharing. I'm not giving advice, but sharing what I did with a less than beautiful couch. I called furniture shops and asked what they did with their fabric samples when discontinued. They gave me their samples for free, and I covered a HUGE 3 seat couch with them in a funky patchwork pattern. Front, back, sides and cushions. Free samples, glue sticks and a hot glue gun. I then LOVED my couch And got another couple more years out of it. If I spilled something on a cushion, I would peel off the dirty patch and that's it. I kept a few patches for mishaps, and have made tote bags to sell or donate.Again, not advice, just a share to change my outlook on a couch I was not ready to get rid of yet. When I did finally pass the couch on, a young man getting his first place wanted my couch because it was SO cool and one of a kind and all his friends could fit on it!

    • @ksize3147
      @ksize3147 5 лет назад +1

      Gayle gills the rest of that sentence is" and if I don't need it, someone I know may need it". It is easier for me to "not" accumulate things with practice. I don't have problems getting rid of stuff and my excess has helped a lot of people a lot of different times. It is always a work in progress, but as I have aged, I want to downsize and minimalize- total opposite of how I use to be.

    Darlene, thank you for sharing this video. Believe me when I tell you that, compared to my home, yours is extremely neat and organized. Maybe it's because I'm older, more relaxed about it, and have been collecting my hoard of fabrics and yarn for more years, but that's not likely true. In addition to yarn and fabrics, I also have a hoard of magazines and an old, but comfortable couch that I enjoy lying on while I watch RUclips on the TV. Anyway, I enjoyed watching your video and thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone. I do move stuff between my house and garage, back and forth, and even purchased 32 of the 58-quart clear plastic bins from Walmart, but the hoard just grew into them. Thank you for your videos. I enjoyed doing a crumb quilt project!!

    I totally understand you. I have worked hard to get better and get rid of things because of my family but I understand you. I unlike you am a shopaholic to though, so to much comes in. I am always telling my husband, "Everything is only a $1" and I spent $80. I am getting much better with both, but it only comes when you are ready and not until, if it never does so be it. It is your life and you need to live for you.

    Here's a fun story for you. I put an old couch on the curb with a FREE sign on it. 2 guys knocked on the door and asked me to save it for them so they hauled it to my garage while they went to borrow a truck to haul it. Came back little later and tied it on top of a tiny car and left. About 2 weeks later one guy came back, they had split up and he wanted a written paper that the couch was his. LMBO. They were fighting over trash.🤣🤣

    Put things you don't want on the sidewalk with a cardboard FREE sign...it will be gone in a instant. No door answering, no dump fee, and you can cool your room with the window cooler. I just found you via the glass buttons. Fun project I will be trying. thank you.

      Kind of hard to do when you live in the last house on a dead end. And even if I could do that, I wouldn't. Hoarders don't like to get rid of junk. Just don't.

  • @gerbs747
    @gerbs747 6 лет назад

    Hi Darlene. This is my 3rd time watching this. I like your honesty. I’m also a almost hoarder. I collected cookbooks (besides other things). My daughter decided I had to get rid of most of them, because I never cooked anything from them (lol). It was soooo painful. I knew I had to do it because my house was getting so overwhelmed with stuff. I wouldn’t have done it except for her. It actually took three years to get rid of most of them. I managed slowly get rid of some more stuff cuz I was moving to a condo. But I still have too much “stuff”. I have ten boxes of Christmas stuff - only use 3 boxes. Had a craft/ sewing room built downstairs- have 8 boxes of fabric and 10 boxes of craft crap that don’t fit in a 18x20 room. I have over prolly 250
    pen/pencils that I go thru every couple years and throw out ones that are dried up. I even try to revive them by putting in glasses of hot water before I throw them out. Why???
    I have about 10 boxes of her toys and 2 bins of school stuff. Why???
    She is not a hoarder, I know she will just get rid of them when I die
    I’m not a people person either. Live alone and don’t care to talk to anyone, except my daughter and then it’s usually by text lol
    I’m pretty good at organizing the junk but not giving away. If you ever want a pretty quite helper to just organize crap, give me a call!

  • @lynnemartin2291
    @lynnemartin2291 5 лет назад +1

    I understand how you feel. I find getting rid of things very painful also. I deal with depression so I know that my old brain deals with my stuff in different ways. I keep a big plastic giveaway bag hanging in my bedroom. I try to put something in as often as possible. I also keep one downstairs also and add stuff that needs to go. I know how you feel. I especially cannot get rid of items from my home growing up. My mum kept our home pristine. Everything had it’s place. So there are many of us out here. Keep talking. It will help.

    Girl that is not horrible a good mix of soapnwater on the arms and a new fabric on the arms, with how innovative you are with fabric , maybe sew some arm pocket thingies (I hope ya know what I mean lol I don't know what they're called!) Maybe quilt the back and seat? Tons of options .....but if and when I absolutely have to get rid of things de-cluttering videos do kind of help motivate me plus the fact that I need money now more than I need this item that I can't dust , manage or make room for....I sell mostly locally and sit everything out side (basically a pitch pick up) I never have to talk or see anyone , got me a deck box for that purpose and I open my door and drop it in like 1.5 seconds lol trust me I'm just like you in alot of ways ....you are more active than me (and very inspiring btw) but I have someone to do the daily chores and errands for me ....but I did read up on agoraphobia and alot of it hit home.....but really I don't think it's bad to be a homebody because if I'm out and about I'm out for an adventure and I'm trying to behave 🤗😉😘😋🎉💜 hang in there , you being able to talk about it and share was a HUGE (step) progress 👏😊

    Thank you for your honesty. One of my most precious dear friend was a hoarder. I love this woman but I hurt her without knowing by trying to make her get rid of things. She would hide tears and say please help me. What she was asking was for me to love her anyway. She is an amazing artist and everything inspired her. She wanted to be organized and tidy but her muse often won out. I finally just stopped trying to help. She still apologizes to me when a new hoard starts. I feel awful that i made her feel that she needs to do that. I just love her now and we are both happy.
    Keep your stuff. Try to be safe. Be you. Feel loved

    I always shove old furniture out on the driveway with a sign "free to a good home" and people pick them up and cart them off. I do not have to deal with anyone, and someone gets something they can deal with, hopefully they are able to fix them up to a usable stage. As far as magazines, I throw them out with the trash a little at a time. The nicer ones I donate to a local auto repair for their waiting room, removing the mailing labels from them first. Easy steps. Good luck.

    Thank you so much, Darlene, for sharing this. I totally understand cause I feel being in the exact same boat like you. I have come to accept the way I am rather than feeling bad about not being able to part from my stuff, and what people think about me. It helped me a great deal to feel more at ease, after I have started to organize my things e.g. sort them and put them up onto shelves I built making use of otherwise empty walls. This freed up so much space on the floor for me to live (and even have visitors!) and relax. Also, it is very satisfying to know exactly where everything is, and I am proud now of my possessions and organization skills. Making lemonade out of too may lemons, just delicious!

    I grew up in a hoarded home and thought it was normal. Now that I’m older, and battle with hoarding tendencies; I put stuff in a box and donate it a month later. Never sneaking a peek to remember what was in the box. I’m dreading the day when my parents pass and I will have to deal with the burden with what’s left behind. Show your love to your family by dealing with it now. It hurts, but it’s bittersweet, you can do it. Take baby steps- you can do it.

    I completely understand how you feel due to I feel the same and can't seem to let go of anything and I tag sale a lot and my way of thinking is, I COULD USE THAT ONE DAY. But never do and with being raised one way and doing the opposite, well we had a clean house and we couldn't sit in the living room and my living room is a clutter box. And yes I'm being rebellious because I couldn't really have much of anything growing up. I had to sin on the floor at my own house and when we visited other people / family houses.. It's a sign for me that now I'm grown and I can make and break rules and you can't say or do shit about it! (saying that last part towards my mother).... So I get it.... Thanks for sharing your video, when you didn't have to!

    I can understand. My mother had the hoarding gene, Hoarders helped us girls understand why mother's house was the way it was. We just could not get it clean as she would fill things up as fast as we could clean it. I have noticed I have the hoarding gene. I finally hired ahousekeeper to help me downsize, and she comes every 2 weeks to clean for me. Health reasons plus age, have made it really hard for me to keep house anymore. But maybe consider hiring someone to help you out. It really helps.

When you are ready maybe Sandy can help you remove things a little at a time. Just don't feel to bad, I totally get it. In fact I have a recliner that I had bought brand new that I let my dad recover from a hip replacement. It doesn't look bad but it is so broken down. I use it all of the time now and I will not remove it. My father passed away about six years ago and it has his rearend print in it.

    I am there wit you. Before my husband died we lived in a small house for a few years, Not a lot of room. I saved everything and added to it as often as possible. I had a giant box under the kitchen table. I can't remember how long it was there. One day I noticed the box was gone. I had a fit. My husband had taken it. When I got done ranting he quietly said. I'll make a deal with you. You tell me whats in the box and I'll tell you where it is. And I couldn't remember to save my life.

    So glad you put up this video. My best friend has the same, and I mean really the same issues. You are saying the very same things, the same feelings etc. I'm going to have her watch this video because she feels like it's just her and she's alone with this. She's been paying people to piles from point A to point B and then back again. It would be such a blessing to her to hear this. Especially the white trash comments. Her family and other friends don't understand the actual emotional pain and stress that she goes through. Hopefully you understand that this video may be helping some one else deal and not feel alone. Thank you thank you. Your a beautiful woman and if others don't like it ,f-**k them.

      I hate that you feel shame, I wish that you could feel exceptance , that you could just know that who you are right now is ok. Maybe you’ll change , maybe you won’t, but be ok with today.who you are is not how you keep house, your fun, funny, kind, imaginative, creative, caring. That’s who you are.

    • @darlene.michaud
      @darlene.michaud  6 лет назад +1

      Please don't hate anything that I feel. Saying you hate that I feel shame is like saying there is something wrong with the way I feel about something. I want to be free to feel anything I want without worrying that someone is going to feel bad for me or worse, hate that I'm feeling it.
