      If your back foot is coming off, you're probably rocketing too much and need to try not putting as much energy into the ollie until your form/technique is corrected or you're not leaning forward enough for the speed you're carrying. Or you just need to start working on ninja style ollies, where it basically looks like you're doing a flying sidekick through the air. That involves bringing the back foot in & up. I don't think of ollies as bringing the board up, but up AND forward, so I catch with front foot and thrust the deck forward like a flying kick, thus making the tail slap up against the back foot. I firmly believe most ollie issues are cleared up once people learn to really attack the nose. If you think of an ollie as moving up AND forward, your back foot will start to follow; the difficulty comes from people using their rear leg only in a straight down/up motion and going below the deck's horizontal plane that kills the energy transfer (pop down, foot then moves straight up). Your front front slides & moves forward, so you need to train your rear foot to move forward a little too. It's pop down, move rear foot up AND forwards. Your rear leg below the knee doesn't come straight up, it makes a very similar motion to when you pick up your foot to see what's on the bottom of your shoe.

    Finally. I’ve been looking for videos to improve my ollies. Most videos don’t address the issue. It’s always generic generic ollie tips that all the videos say. This is the only one I’ve found that really aims at improving ollies rather than teaching. Idk why no other videos address keeping the back foot connected to the board when that has such a huge part in executing a controlled ollie. Thanks for this

    Thanks so much for these videos! 41 year-old here learning to skate for the first time. I've been working on ollies for 3 or 4 months now and a few of your tips, specifically the launch and rolling out my front foot, just allowed me to do some ollies that finally felt good, like I was doing it right! @@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 Thanks, I really appreciate that! You know one thing I discovered this last week is the reason I couldn't time myself to ollie over an object while rolling was because I couldn't ollie without looking at my feet. Had to practice looking away while doing stationary ollies for a while until I started getting comfortable. Now I'm managing to ollie while rolling and looking at the object I'm trying to ollie over.

    Excellent analysis! I also had the same problem with my backfoot. Then when I was practicing kickflip my front foot would occasionaly catch the nose in the flicking motion and ended up giving me a super high ollie instead of flip. That made me suspect for a good ollie actually what we need is a flicking motion. Then I retrained ollie with this deliberate flick it massively changed my ollie. Your point of rolling the pinkie side sooner and sway the lower leg more firmly verifies my theory -- it is essentially what you have to do in a kickflip.

    Need some support I can ollie but my board turns sideways to the right ( I ride goofy) I know how to Ollie and to keep my shoulders straight, but I’m 99% sure my board turns because I turn my dragging foot to the right, I can’t slide forward for the life of me and it sucks because I try to do a gap or stair set I land primo

    • @unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205
      @unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205  2 года назад

      You are not alone in rotating the board that way. Here's why, and you're on the right track... When you try to move your front knee forward it is natural for your knee to rotate open a bit. That leads to the lower leg and foot opening (rotating) as well. Try standing on your back foot and lift your front knee. Start to make the lead leg movement like you would when you ollie. Pay attention to what happens as you move your front knee forward. You will see at a certain point the lead leg starts to rotate open. This extra knee movement is likely contributing to you opening your front foot and rotating the board. Let me know if this makes sense and if it doesn't I will try to make a video breakdown about the lead leg action and why the board rotates open...

    • @unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205
      @unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205  2 года назад

      I'll add that you can compensate by disciplining your foot and ankle action with knee extension to keep the board in line. You can also help control it by easing up on the forward movement of the knee when you lift it up and slide the foot up the board.
