Just in case FYI, Thibau Nys is not only a 'sprinter', but also an upcoming cyclo-crosser. He is the son of (in Belgium) famed Sven Nys, a two time world champion cyclo-crosser.
As a viewer who only use to watch the summary of the TDFrance. I am now appreciating the details shared by Chris on these other races. Thanks for the education Chris!
Thanks for leaving the comment penny 👊🦋
I love Chris' enthusiasm and in depth knowledge of the riders. Heck; he could commentate a commuter riding to work and make it interesting and entertaining. 😁 I love these race summaries. Many thanks!
😜🦋👊🙏
“That’s where all the dead fish go” Ouch… Why does the truth always hurt 🐟🐟🐟🐟😂
Luv the Peugeot plug!! My cousin in France had a Peugeot 205 as well. Like you said...super reliable and fun driving on back roads.
I always wanted their super deluxe version with more power. 🚙😂🦋👊

Great as always, sensei Chris. But it should be said -- 21-year old Thibau Nys, like MVP, WVA, Tom Pidcock and Quinten Hermans, is a 'cross rider, in fact, the son of 'cross legend Sven Nys. Here he was boxed out, squeezed against the barriers twice, and had to take the (very) long way around, and still crushed two very good riders. These 'cross stars are great bike handlers and do well in cold and rainy weather. I think you'll be talking about him again before the year is done.
pedale !
Yep, watch him next wednesday in the one day World Tour race in Germany. 100% sure that he will sprint for the victory in the Eschborn-Frankfurt classic.... Since last year that classic knows more ellevation and is not per se a pure sprinters classic anymore.... But a kid like Nys can climb quite well and has a fine sprint..... I do have him in my top ten for next week, and who knows what more is possible ? ✌
Right. Nys went the long way around and still got the win 💪🦋👊
Actually also Vendrame is not really your typical sprinter. :-D More like a ... mediocre sprinter and a mediocre climber? Kind of like Magnus Cort Nielsen in these two regards, but just a little bit less. He has shown these kind of efforts on medium mountain stages in the Giro before when he was going on the attack. Just rarely you seem him sprinting these days. Only on days with reduced groups/sprinters present like on stage 1 here.
Wasn't that surprising yesterday, but very good. :) Quality rider.
@@1dree1 Yes that's true. I have played him quite often in a number of cycling games, in those Hilly sprint stages.... Always for position 4 up and until position 12.
On a good day he can even ride podium or maybe even fight for the win, but that depends a bit who else is also competing.
In those smaller (French Cup) races you can write him down for a good result for sure, but in World Tour level races he needs a good day.
But he brings experience too, which has quite some value for those young guns like for example Valentin Paret-Peintre or Lapeira. ✌️
To me there's nothing better then seeing the break away taking the W but there's one thing tagt tops that is seeing a sprint win on a climb from the brake away take the W. What a great stage.
And what's made this race fun watching is listening to the commentator laugh at his own jokes and just talking about random stuff. Great job, The Hornet..😂.
Karlton Kirby’s paper route story made me laugh. Agreed on the finish of the stage. 2 sprinters and a GC riders all coming to the line together. That was money viewing 👊🦋🔥
The 205, the group B queen.
🚙🦋👊
True, and Audi Quatro was King 😊. The 205 was easier to handle, overall better balance, .. man what an era.
Peugeot 205 💪
🇫🇷🚙🦋👊
Thibau Nys is destined to win this stage. La Vuelta is coming for him.
A similar tactic and ride from Plapp to that of Paris-Nice it seems. Get up the road, get a late start for the TT, take the jersey and hang on from there for a high GC finish.
Vendrame tried every trick in the book... but Nys would not be denied!
True that. 👊🦋🔥💪
I like that “ dead fish float downstream “!
I feel so much cold just to see the mountains covered by snow😅
Carapaz is fun to watch, chasing guys down.
And it seems like half the time they show the peloton, it's EF Education at the front of it.
Carapaz is everywhere lately. He has to find that win soon 👊🦋
Very exciting finish, best Romandie I've watched thus far, even though 3 stages completed. Huge competitive field this year, more so than previous, lotsa names here this year. Classics season was special as usual btw
Yep. The field looks really even. Should be a good couple of stages coming up. 🔥👊🦋
🦋🦋🦋🦋👊👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Chris- Your sidebar on the Peugeot dealer was epic!
I still miss that car. 🚙🤪👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling and your commentary has totally gone next level. Thx!
Being called a dead fish, sniff ( Well, you aint wrong )
Love it, Chris! Thanks so much !
👊🦋
Those Swiss road surfaces are incredibly smooth, because they spec deeper layers of road-base and asphalt/macadam; this deluxe stretch to Martigny (site of a wild exotic antique car museum) 😅 is a road I only did two or three times, as the longest "flat" ride possible from Genève suburbs; from Hermance to Martigny was +/- 95km each way; 190km round-trip 🎉
So another "Tour Stage" under the belt. 😂
It was a fun stage to watch with knucklecramps and Plapp riding like a Pantani up that last 4km.
Thanks, Garrett, for helping Pops look good. 🎉🎉
I love biking Swiss roads. 🦋👍
Every time I raced I Switzerland I was always entertained how flat the roads can be with so many big mountains everywhere. 🤔🦋👊⛰️🏔️
Also starting to appreciate these smaller races that the current big names (Page 1) do not attend. Or is that due to the recent injuries or upcoming races that have caused some of the big names not to participate? In any case, good to hear some familiar names Yates, and other older riders that are still out there riding.
I hate to say it but when the very top riders aren't there, the racing is more exciting. It also gives young talent a chance to shine. As fans we get a sneek peek to the future stars.
Romandie can get some of the top riders from time to time but more often it’s like this because the top have gone on vacation after the classics finished. Unless the Giro is on the their program. 👊🦋
Outstanding arrow work, Garrett!
Working magic with them. 👊🦋➡️
In the context of bike racing, what does it mean when Chris says, "the peloton is nervous"?
Good question. The racing is starting heat up so every team is fighting for a good position at the front of the peloton to avoid their leader getting stuck in the back and missing a split causing them to use more energy later. 👊🦋
My first car was a Peugeot 205. Really loved that car.
Thank you so much for posting these videos. I look forward to watching your reports after all the races. I have learned so much from you. Truly appreciate your time in making these videos.
16:40 🎉 that Time Trial has 594ft / 181m of climbing in first 3.5km tomorrow (Friday).
😮 No slackers please 😂
🔥🦋👊
Plapp and Ayuso top favourites gc wise tomorrow but watch out for Marco Brenner who is a huge talent with a good tt.
I don't see him winning here but it'll be interesting to see how he races today against these opponents.
You are 100% right about Ayuso Chris. I watched the video after the TT.
“Taking their clothes off adjusting things at the front”
Everyone's relaxing and taking their clothes off.....
As a nudist in a wingback chair I enjoyed the commentary
😅🤣✌
Hehehe. Totally relaxing naked while watching T🦋E. Always happy to help put on smile on what was already clearly a good day for you. 😂👊🦋
Great content Chris
That was Nys to watch 🤣
205 rules.👊 learned to drive on one off those.
Chris is as reliable as a Peugeot 205. 🦋🛋️
🚙🦋👊
3:00 minutes with 10.7 km to go I thought no way are they catching the break
I wondered which team was going to ride right away at the bottom and when I saw Q/S on the front I thought. No way they are going to catch the break with QS on the front. 😂👊🦋
1st
The itt will make changes tomorrow. Hope Ayuso and A.Yates do well and improve in GC.
Did Plapp have the ugly face or just lose the 4s?
Plapp went deep into ugly. 😬😬😬🔥🦋🏆🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Great show Chris love your show, lots of fun!
Thanks 👊🦋
6:24 😂😂😂
😂🦋👊🚙
Okay, I'm feelin' sad for Julian. To get dropped and lose all that time with the leader's jersey nearly in hand is just sad, that's all.
Ayuso will do a violent tt today 😅
I would not have wanted to be behind the dead fish! 🤢
OTOH they were at altitude.
🐟🦋👊
Was the Visma rider in the "water bottle zone"? If you can't throw a bottle there you shouldn't be able to just throw your jacket there
Someone will pick up the jacket for sure. Normally the rider will radio into the team about where the jacket is getting dropped. 🤔🦋👊
"That is where the Dead fish go"! That is too damn funny! Thank you Chris.
🐟🍤😜🦋👊
Comment
Maybe podium?
That’s a podium finish. 😂👊🦋🦋🦋🦋👊🦋🦋🦋
Don't listen to Carlton Kirby, it's Nys (pronounced Niece NOT Nice) - oh after listening on you corrected yourself the 2nd & 3rd time - but after listening on you're back to 'nice'
It is Nys.... Pronounced like the English word nice...... and not like the French city Nice.. Belgian here ✌Chris did it correct the first time and at the end, and pronounced it wrong the 2nd and 3rd time.
Nys is pronounced the same way as the names Zijlaard and/or van Dijke.... In Dutch/Flemish Y is pronounced the exact same way as IJ.
Hehehe. Literally my whole career I have been saying Niece and now somehow it’s changed. What finally got me on Nice was at the podium presentation the speaker introduced him as Nice, but erasing twenty years was not easy to do in one early afternoon. 🤷🏼♂️🦋🤪😂👊
@@swissbiggy Oh, I stand corrected (sorry Carlton & Chris), it's gonna take me a while to correct myself as I've also said & heard Sven 'Niece'. Thanks :)
@@ChrisHornerCycling You're doing an excellent job Chris, and we are very greatful for it... In life it is not about doing everything right, making the attempt is at least as valuable ❣🦋🦋
@@MarkM-kv2oq Don't worry my dear friend, I will probably screw up a lot of other names too.... What do I say probably ?!?! For sure even... Despite Poland being just 500 km from where I live I will never ever be able to pronounce those names correct. I break my tongue on the pronounciations of Polish names.... 😅🤣😂✌
Tibeau knows its just for 1 day the yellow jersey, he said "I just gonna enjoy it for full 100%" " My TT is not so good wright now " .
BTW it is not Thibeau Nis but it is spelled Thibeau Nijs . he was several times World champion cyclocross, so he can climb a bit. He even supprized his own father with his climbing capabilities...
Those men of the cyclocross doing good on the roads dont you think ? Tim Merlier, Mathieu, Wout , Tibeau, Vermeersch , and somme others !?
It is spelled Thibau Nys .
@@thaidomain He is my countrymen, and we speak it with a ij Nijs, ofcourse I know it is Nys .... This is flemmisch bud , write y and telling his name with a ij ; NOT nis as Chris a few times menchond ... My english writing is not that good , so misunderstandings are quickly maded ;-)
didn t understand quick step strategie ?julian ? why let the échappées 3minutes ahead? good win for the échappées , frozen in the descente! good effort , it was a cold stage ,even in the sun , ! and the winners are in short and short sleeves! nice thibaut . an other leader tomorrow or yellow give you wings ? njoylife
Soudal is not riding for Alaphilippe but for van Wilder. v. Wilder is the GC men for Soudal, since he's the better climber and TT rider.
I’m betting on Ayuso for tt but this time of year who knows. 💪🦋👊
