I apologize for my fellow Americans who know no history, little geography and lap up whatever Fox News tells them. You can tell how educated they are when their comments are short poorly written bluster that is no different from the Russian trolls.
And General Hodges is a really good American, dedicated to service, democracy, ethics and honor. I doubt he'd want to be president. We always need a president with the intellectual capacity, knowledge of history and political skill who can apply the advice of people like General Hodges. Currently we have about two more months of that.
(I'm not worried about civil war -- most of the over armed losers can't get off the couch long enough to do anything except go out and buy more beer. Always remember when the American Civil War was started by the Southern States, they had most of the officer class, most of the armaments (shipped to southern forts in anticipation). Ulysses Grant at this time was working in a store in Ohio, having retired from the military.... We know how that turned out. )

If India buys a tank from South Korea and uses it to defend itself from PRC aggression, the provenance of the tank doesn't give the PRC the right to attack S. Korea. I agree, but somehow I think a bit more - like twice as much military aid - would also not have caused some WWIII nuclear use. On the contrary, I think it would have saved thousands of Ukranian (and Russian!) lives. Probably, the war would have been over by now. Instead, the war is likely to drag on another 1-2 years, before Russia breaks down completely.
Ukranian's aren't going to stop fighting, whatever Trump does with USA support. Trump doesn't doesn't even seem to understand, that almost half the military support comes from Europe and other countries. (And then Europe also takes care of 5-6 million refugees, on top of that.)
The USA sending 31 Abrams tanks for example, is kind of pathetic. Australia is now sending 49 of the exact(!) same model. And the US has 3'500 in storage! And in Ukraine, at any given time, each side operates something like close to a thousand tanks, I believe.

it's not ideology merely that the US was built on, it was the first deeply thought-out, philosophically deep and strategically-constructed to keep a people free to maintain their "self evident inalienable rights" , what we now call 'human rights' or civil rights. ie true freedom of the human spirit. Something russians who are NOT europeans actually bcuz they did had no exposure to the The Enlightenment in euro civilization, do not have a clue about. Romantic love itself came from the Enlightenment, ffs! Wonder why the russians are boorish and primal and now sadists against their cousin neighbors? Half the city of Kherson was tortured!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing - I'm Swedish - that active duty American military commanders really try and refrain from expressing political views, just as they do in Sweden. It's a good principle in a democracy, that the military does not interfere in politics. Ben Hodges is retired, so he can be a bit more outspoken, but from what I've seen, he still avoids taking any outright partisan stance. One can't label him democrat or republican, can you?
In Sweden, up untill lately, the military in Sweden, has also been completely forbidden to act in any manner within Sweden, during peacetime. Because as late as 1931, a company was called out against striking workers (who had done absolutely nothing violent), and actually shot one worker dead. These days though, people want the military to help out with things like tracked wehicles in snowstorms and such, so some permissions have been given. But notably no policing whatsoever, in peace time.

My pet peeve since the early GWB presidency was that we need to have a second obligatory education for adults.
Adults vote, if having an educated voting public is no longer possible with just childhood education, and if the world moves too quickly to wait until the younger generation takes over, then educating the adult population is the only way.
Some people have spoken about UBI in a world of robotics and automation so maybe we can do something there, UBI in exchange for education, early retirement in exchange for education.
History, civics, geography, if you are to be a voter you need to at least have a strong grounding in the basics that are politically neutral like "what nations exist on the map" or "how do I check if something is really in the public record as per media claims".

I don’t think people understand that Russia isn’t interested in negotiating with Ukraine. It doesn’t consider Ukraine a nation that requires their consideration with respect to diplomatic relations. It’s just a territory available for the taking that servers “the greater good “ of the Russian Federation. The only country Russia will negotiate with in any kind of meaningful way, is America, UK, China and maybe France.

@@Comm.DavidPorter Why would they! Most Americans don't have a clue and aren't interested in learning. Even after receiving warning after warning after a myriad of warnings, what other population, except for the pitifully gullible and naive society we apparently have become, would willingly support a convicted felon, fraudulent liar, sexist cheat, authoritarian bigot and all around bad person, who continues to be denounced by every associate, business partner, co-worker and blood relative with whom he has ever been aquatinted? We have lived so long in freedom that we have become arrogantly complacent in our bubble of self-assuredness: "WE could NEVER lose our freedoms, NOT in AMERICA!"
Our blindness to life outside of our country, with our nonchalant attitude towards gaining any knowledgeable interest, create the sloven ignorance that has brought us to the brink at which we now find ourselves. Maybe a good dose of old fashioned tyranny MIGHT FINALLY switch our "head-lights" to "on", but it all depends on how much of a spine will emerge from the entire body of our official representatives. Will they honor their oath and finally unite to protect and stand against this ONE, insane "Putin-in-the-Making", or will each one act separately, on bended knee before the "Trump-King", and secure individual permission to feed each personalized greed and need for power? Will this taste of tyranny be an agreeable staple in our future governmental diet, or will a small, sampling sized appetizer be so horrifically bitter that it forces a mass rejection and powerful demand to be spat out and vomitted into the ground until ash?
I don't know, but beyond all descriptive comprehension, is the shame I feel at our willingness to easily forego a way of life, considered by others to be so precious, that it is a privileged honor to sustain, worthy of sacrficing every drop of blood, until their last breath. Yet we stand silently oblivious to the costs our fate will extract.

The idea is that the Cold War was WWIII, and that it was won by the West. Now russia is attempting to win the fourth one, even though they aren't a superpower anymore.

@@NemoNobody0 but it's a dumb explanation. the cold w*r wasn't a world w*r with mass d3ath. and the c*mmie USSR is gone now and Russia is now Christian, so it isn't the enemy anymore. Tell the man to stop trying to be clever and just say ww3.
