Welcome to the 36th episode of my blind LP of Half-Life 2, the sequel to the acclaimed and groundbreaking shooter Half-Life.
A new enemy to face, and possibly the most intimidating yet...
Hope you enjoy! - Игры
I am stuck in this part by these fricking striders
I absolutely love Half-Life 2's sound design as a whole, but the sounds that the Striders make are probably some of my favorite pieces of sound design in the entire game. They're surprisingly expressive considering how unnatural they sound, and they somehow drive home the point that the creatures are part biological, part mechanical.
they sound like silt striders in morrowind lol
Pikminiman watch war of the worlds you’ll like it they copied the monsters and aliens of it
@@zarkuz8702 half life 2 came out in 2004 and the war of the worlds movie came out in 2005. They only took inspiration from the book of war of the worlds which came out around 100 years ago.

Strider behavior: The strider has 2 guns. The energy pellet gun and the warp cannon, Both deadly, The strider will mostly use the energy gun when its going to try to kill a target while the warp cannon is used for destroying walls, buildings, machines, and cover. Which is why its not so safe to be low under the strider because he will warp the thing your hiding behind away from existance. The striders have no eyes and use a camera to see targets, As seen in part 37 when your sneaking past a strider. You can see the energy gun looking around for targets which is the camera he uses. The striders move around to get better view of targets and will also duck down to get low and pick off people hiding inside buildings (another reason not to be under the strider). They also duck to dodge missles on hard difficulty. Just you think being under them isnt bad, they actually have a 3rd attack. When under the strider for some time the strider will impale you with its leg killing you instantly. Striders also do this to rebels and you can see rebel bodys stuck on striders legs. The striders will even take a moment to shake the body off the leg once it has free time. 1 strider will take 7 rockets or 14 energy balls from the AR2 to kill. Other enemys will accompany the strider to help it. Examples are scanners that will go into the building and take a picture of you, sending it to the strider allowing it to know where you are. In the wilderness, Hunters will accompany it protecting the strider from the "special" devices.
For more info on these overpowered enemys, feel free to look here: half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Strider
5:58 another great half-life 2 sound design. the strider death wail is so, like, OTHER. I've never heard an enemy make that kind of noise before. The way it slides down into like, the near infra-bass spectrum at the end is just fantastic.
If you listen to the individual sound file towards the end you can hear the mechanical system powering down.
Everytime I see a playthrough where someone freaks out at the beginning when they see the strider in the street, I look forward to them getting to the first big strider fights! ;*D
They certainly are built up enough throughout :)
I know this is super late, but when those scanners started taking photos of you in the building at 14:45, they were actually acting as spotters for the strider outside and alerting it to where you were hiding. Pretty cool gameplay mechanic that was sadly only used in that one section.
Ohhh, I thought they were literally just there as distractions (and doing a fine job of it too)
I THOUGHT THERES NO ROCKET SUPPLY HERE
thanks for showing me this spot! 7:02
Probably my favorite part in HL2. Fighting the striders in the ruins of City 17 was just so damn epic.
+Vumpalouska Definitely a highlight of the game for me :D

fucking hate this part and only time so far where I had to search up a walkthrough
In situations like that one, pinned down by a Strider with no rockets, is when you can remember that the grenades, energy balls, MP7 grenades, etc do about half a rocket's worth of damage to them.
Ah, that probably explains the dislikes on this video - finally an answer xD having said that I did have fun having to avoid them until I found rockets.
Striders are probably the strongest species that belongs to the Combine. I mean, hell, they're fucking bulletproof lol
hell it is true, since the helicopter is indestructible but it is not a living being
Actually I love the full scale war on city 17
i had a feeling that you would like Striders
:D
It would've killed the game designers to put an HEV charging module in the builder prior to this battle?
This is damn-near impossible on hard mode.
OMG ITS WAR OF THE WORLDS ALL OVER AGAIN!
I KNOW RIGHT THE GIANT MACHINES GETTING TAKEN DOWN BY ROCKEST ARE SIMILAR TO THE NO SHIELD SCENE
The firing sound of the Striders are so badass!
Striders are my favorite thing in half life
Tempted to go godmode in this horrendous sequence, but patience was rewarded.

"Maybe I just need to work it as I go"
4:43 it's zoidberg!!!
**Zoidberg has been discovered and runs away whooping**
I heard that Zoidburg whoop as you ran from the first downed Strider. :D
Why not Zoidburg eh? XD
In Half-Life 2 Beta Striders were meant to be invulnerable.
I fuckin love the idea of the striders but I hate being around them
Didn't he run right past a whole crate of rockets soon after he entered the plaza? And then he spent the rest of the thing asking 'where are my rockets?' (Not being critical; I'm just coming back to Half-Life 2 after abandoning it years ago. Haven't played this yet, so I've got no leave to nit-pick.)
Hehehe, do you know that's entirely possible - but for the record I'm glad I had to scrimp on ammo at first, even if there was rockets available at the start - simply because having limited ammo made the whole thing more manic :)
About 13 Years... Half-Life 2 is still One Of My Favorite Games. But where is 3?
Now 18 years later I’m still waiting

2023 and im still suffering
There was health in the hole the strider made in the wall 7:13
i never noticed this. i think that from 16:00 to 16:05 you can see it shifting its weight. it looks like it's trying to see inside the building, doesn't it?
sleepCircle I think it likely is: "...hey there's a Gordon in there!"
AI at its best.
OMG JUST LIKE IT!
Lmao when I played I wasted my msg ammo on the strider. I’m so dumb
subbed
STRIIIDEEER!!!
This has to be the best game i've ever played.
It's up there, for sure
At 6:37 SURPRISE
I quit playing half life because I couldn't do that mission lol
Some guys say its a tripod but there worng it's an alien strider is an alien with 3 legs
half life is in that 2
yes
EXEPT
The strider looks like a Tripod.
Are you talking about the camera tripod or the alien robot?
+Liam Pfeffer but smaller😂
+Mr'Koalas alien
It does look like a three legged creature
Its therr cousin
ANOTHER ONE
A fun video, but hard to watch with so much jerkiness on screen...it looks like 10fps, lol.
I hated the Striders!!! Even in Garry's Mod when I would spawn them for fun BAD IDEA!!
Y U NO KILL STRIDER AT END
Meh, I'd killed enough this episode - don't worry there's more strider deaths next time
You let an innocent rebel get killed by that strider after you left :(
Marney no!
D:
+ThatJ0eGuy FYI for future reference the grenades from the pulse rifle also work and at close range they hit them harder then rockets ;)
+Things that stop you dreaming
So I learn eventually :P
ThatJ0eGuy :D I learned fairly quickly by accident almost doing a Darth Vadar NOOOOO when I ran out of rockets and could not get clear of the damn thing :D
Oo

This is Garry’s mod
We have decided to convey somewhere you can do no possible harm. And where no harm can come to you. I'm sure you can imagine there are worse alternatives.
