What's worst is the blind eye these kind of drillers turn to real issues like drugs on the rig, etc. Terrible for the young man who probably had his arms broken or fingers severed by this. Drillers should be held accountable legally for their actions. I've spent way too long on rigs to tolerate incompetence anymore...
@@richardbarr7191 if you hit a gas pocket coming out of the hole (which they did not)...its still the driller fault for not noticing the pit gain Richard. They were back reaming out of the hole and the pumps were left on. There should be an override to not allow that but the mud wouldn't stop if it was a kick...he shuts the pumps off...you can see it.

Nothing to do with the bops. There is no hydrostatic pressure problem and I don't understand why you would assume I was saying there was. If your trying to show your knowledge of down hole by referring to hydrostatic pressure your not impressing anyone. Imagine that Richard...pumping on the string while pulling out of the hole! Can you wrap your head around that you Muppet? Recently two rig floor workers were injured while working on the rig floor. The job at hand was pulling out of the hole, while pumping on the drill pipe with the top drive drilling unit.
@@richardbarr7191 and for the record you often do run pumps when tripping pipe nowadays, most wells are horizontal wells and it is a common practice to circulate a bottoms up at kick off point and/or the base of the curve just so any gas that may have migrated can be circulated out while your still close to bottom. Also when working tight hole so you can establish circulation to avoid getting differentialy stuck or pumps on and off to pressurize and relax the wellbore can avoid alot of down hole sticking problems. Just so you know how things are nowadays...we aren't in the 80s anymore Richard. I think your a little behind on how things are nowadays...God your stubborn. It was not a gas issue...it was a pump issue man. Period. End of story.

I had a Driller try to kill me by engaging the Rotary table with the slips in just as I was reaching down to untangle a length of rope we had tied to the Elevator latch that was wrapped in the slip handles. I was green and did not fully understand what happened. If I saw that bastard today 30 years later I would kick him down the god dam stairs in the old folks home.

That driller probably went home, when he was finally allowed to go home, downed a half gallon of whiskey and blew his brains out after this. That driller could’ve been on his second shift, tired as all get out and made a fatal flaw. Now he has to live with his actions, if he’s even still alive.

He was lucky he got that mud can latched before the driller popped the joint had his whole body in the line of fire. 1 guy holds the mud can another latches it. Sounds stupid but This is exactly why. And this isn’t a blow out. The driller didn’t shut the pumps down and bleed off the 2IN before breaking the joint apart.

He didn’t disengage the pumps that are pumping down the drill line before unscrewing the drill pipe joints apart causing the flow of water to blow his roughneck to oblivion. Seen and have had it done to myself MANY times cause of incompetency
Day 1 ever being on a rig the driller made me trip pipe solo without the iron roughneck and he left the dog house and the pipe started kicking ive never run faster from a job site

He did not look like he got hit with anything except that Explosion of a vertical supersonic Mud that blew his Head Back pretty bad I'm not sure that dude could have survived that Violent blast
i could be wrong but to me that 100% looks like the work of a driller that wasnt paying attention and didnt fully shut the pumps down all the way. I hesitate to get nasty about it because as humans we all make mistakes, but this kind of mistake has the potential to kill anyone and everyone on that rig floor. I can only hope noone got hurt too badly
