Great video. Amazing how good the cameras pick up everyrhing after sundown. Sir Richard was not having a good day for sure.

What an Adventure! Nobody said riding the TAT was going to be easy. You guys have covered some beautiful ground in these videos I can't wait for the next video to see what that mountain side actually looks like. Thanks for taking us along on this trip.

I was impressed with the difficulties, I underestimated the challenges

Communication is key, for anyone attempting the TAT with friends. I'd also argue there's a bit of fear involved. Riding down a dirt road you've never been on during sunset with exposure would get to the nerves of anyone. Wanting to stop and camp is a reasonable response.
It did look like there were some good trees to hang from back down the road, so it was a good choice. It's always a tough and important choice to decide to ride ahead or to stop for camp.

I think a video about the importance of communication is coming, and most likely another video on why you should should ride with someone.

Intercoms are problematic with modular helmets. The wind noise with the face shield up swamps the voice with noise. Even in a full face helmet, in noisy/windy conditions, if there isn't a good seal around the neck, the noise can swamp the voice. The mic should be noise canceling which means the audio from the front of the mic is subtracted from the audio from the back of the mic, but if the mic is installed at 90 degrees the noise cancelling doesn't work and if the mic is rotated 180 degrees it cancels the voice and amplifies the noise. It's easy to misalign the boom mic with a modular helmet. A more common problem is the boom mic is moved out of position when a modular helmet is opened or closed, so after a fuel stop or lunch, the audio from that intercom doesn't work or is a very low volume with a lot of noise.
I love that you recorded all of this video and are editing and releasing it as you get the opportunity and are in the mood. As always, thanks for sharing the adventure.
I get weird when I travel. I'm reluctant to inflict myself on a traveling companion.
None of this video was anywhere close to as tiring, irritating, frustrating or upsetting as the real life experience when watching it in the comfort of my home.
I'm looking forward to the next episode. Day 9 - Stealth Camping And Digging A Shallow Grave :-o

We had wind noise issues with both helmets. Both worked really well up to about 35 mph. Anything above that required closing the shield or covering the microphone with my hand. Richard's helmet was well ventilated, and required him closing the vent for me to hear him. I was pretty aware of when he could not hear me, but this day was the first time I became aware of how bad his transmissions were. Comms continued to worsen the rest of the trip, sadly.

@@MotoGiant - I visited a friend last year. He didn't know I was riding my motorcycle. I tossed him the key and he went for a brief test ride. He was a couple of months away from retiring and hadn't ridden a motorcycle since high school, when he rode dirt bikes a lot. He bought a CFR300L Rally a couple of months ago and has been picking my brain. I had him buy a Cardo Edge so we could communicate with my PackTalk Bold. I rode 180 miles round trip to install his intercom for him last week. We've been on a couple of rides and he realizes how much safety and enjoyment the intercom adds. We're going to try to get in a moto camping trip before it gets cold.
I saw Todd at the Beemer breakfast this morning. He asked if I'd like to do some moto camping next week. I'm not sure our schedules are compatible, and as I previously mentioned, I probably shouldn't inflict my travel self on anyone.

I've had those days when I have pushed it too far. Luckily always by myself. Some of the conversations with said self have gotten pretty abusive.
