I absolutely love the fact this is in 4/4. Me and some friends argued about this for ages at university, and discovering it’s in 4/4 is like the punchline to a joke. A typically Radiohead joke. And people say they don’t have a sense of humour.
Kid A and Amnesiac were from the same recording session but they split it in two as the themes didn’t quite align. They later released it as was originally intended ‘Kid Amnesiac’ - I see them as two sides of the same perfect coin 👍🏻
I always liked Amnesiac slightly more than Kid A. Kid A is amazing and very much a cohesive story. But Amnesiac, while more disjointed, is in my opinion “harder” in some way. “Harder” is def not the best descriptor but i can’t think of better one. Just more intense Radiohead weirdness 🤷🏻♂️
Nice reaction, this is a haunting song.. Could you do Bloom live from the Basement? It's my favorite Radiohead song/performance, I think you will love it (I insist on the live version)
Now that you said "I feel like I went into a daydream" i have to recommend you Daydreaming by Radiohead. Its one of my favourites along with Pyramid song and I think it shares a similar feeling of eeriness.
Listening to this song for the first time when it came out what’s the reason I missed my flight at the terminal Philadelphia. I closed my eyes, listening to this album and the next thing I knew my plane had taken off. 😂
*Rory* - Interesting perspective, as always. 😊 Thom's vocal phrasing still feels in sync with the instruments to me, even though they're not strictly aligned with each other and the tempo's loose & fluid. Same with Lanegan. (Then again, I'm a piano player & singer 😄) But I know what you mean, in that in both cases it's a mood thing that's tough to replicate. Great request. One of my faves ❤
1:27 Josh from QOTSA spoke at Mark Lanegan's funeral. He said Mark was not very musical theory-wise, but hummed a tune to Josh. Josh played something resembling what Mark hummed and I believe that became a prominent QOTSA song. I think it was God on the Radio but can't confirm. Nevertheless, Mark had a fucking great ear for great music

I've been playing this song on the piano lately.. it is strange - it's standard 4/4 but divided weirdly. The chords change unexpectedly... and the voice doesn't really align with them. At least not all the time.. takes some getting used to but u get the hang of it if u repeat it
Same here, I've got it down on piano as well. Once the vocals and especially the drums kick in, you realize how it all makes sense. It's that syncopated/down beat chords that throw you at first. Such a masterpiece.
The song is in 4/4, just uses a lot of dotted quarter notes and ties. The drums coming in show this. This song is effin beautiful. One of my faves.
yes but the best way to count it is 3-3-4-3-3

I listened to this song about 250 times last year. Got me through some tough times
I love when you have that cheesing smile when you know that a song is hitting hard!
Great song choice Luke.
And, an awesome reaction Rory!
Check the link in my comment above - I think you’ll appreciate it matey 👍🏻
Nice!
Amnesiac is considered by many to be a lesser album, but I think it's their best. And I'm a Zappa fan.

You are spot on about the time signature.. great reaction
Musical magic
Your smile needs to be on a tee shirt for your merch lol.
Zappa never made anything like this. It's depth or it's substance.
Your face from when the drums start trickling in. I pull the very same face every time.
Thom York has some songs with PJ Harvey as well (I see you're getting to know her music so)
sounds like pink floyd - pompeii.🤩
3:52 🔞😅
