This was the FIRST Rocky movie I saw, and I saw it in the theater as a kid. Mr. T scared the hell out of me. To this day, it's my favorite film of all time. Not just because it has the greatest villain, but the greatest message in its "Eye of the Tiger" storyline. That song, by the way, spent 6 weeks at #1.
I agree clubber lang by our standards was a great antagonist. He talked shit, backed it up. Made the movie interesting. Rocky 4 I just felt depressed apollo was gone lol
My favorite in the entire franchise, mostly because of nostalgia. I remember every day after school I’d pop in that VHS of Rocky 3 and I just absolutely fell in love with these films. Part 3 gets a lot of flack for taking the franchise in the silly action realm and takes it away from the dramatic feel of parts 1 and 2. People don’t understand that this is the first Rocky film of the 1980s and kudos to Sly for being brilliant enough to see that society was changing. The 1980s were all about big music, big action, over the top affects and Stallone saw that and wrote and directed the next two films to accommodate the culture shift in America. There’s just so, so, so much to love about this and Mickey’s death scene is my favorite of the entire franchise. Oscar worthy performance by Sly just for that scene alone (no I’m not joking haha). Great review Lee!
The score that you mentioned for the final fight that you loved so much was also used during the fights in Rocky II, Rocky Balboa and the recap with Drago during the opening of Rocky V.
I just put this on the other day and watched it...I kinda forgot how good this film was and the other 3. This is probably my favorite of them all...but just by a really little bit because I love all of them in some regard or another. Easily one of my favorite movie franchises. I really hope you do a DrumDumsWatches for the Rocky films sometime...that'd be so cool.
Awesome review of my favourite Rocky movie, Stallone knows exactly how mix drama, humour, emotion & action taking on Hulk Hogan & Mr-T & boy to the fight scenes deliver. For me though Paulie scene steals in this film he's hilarious "shut up ya squabble bums, I'll squash ya"
obviously this isn't a horror film, but the 2 scariest people in my mind during my childhood were Michael Myers and Clubber Lang. And yeah, when Tyson came on the scene, it was like life imitating art, because that due WAS Clubber Lang. And I became a huge Tyson fan because of it. There's a lot of cheesy, silly shit in this movie, but I love it for nostalgic purposes, and if I watched it right now, I'd still be scared shitless of Mr T. That dude's performance in this film I think is highly UNDERRATED. I know his backstory in real life and I realize that he was pretty much doing stuff in the film that he did in real life, but he was an evil monster in this film, and by all accounts, he is actually an incredibly nice guy. I think he should get an Oscar tomorrow morning for this film, simply on the strength of his on screen vs off screen persona!!!!
@@DrumdumsOfficial Also i never really thought about it, but that stupid song by Survivor is actually technically impressive. Youve got to ride that low E while muting it to give it that staccato feel pretty much through the entire song. Maybe James Hetfiled wrote this song and laid down tracks for the film when he was ten and just didn't get credit for it.
rocky is My favorite sports movie series, lee when i first saw these back in the vhs era when they aired rocky 1 through 5 in syndication on tv i was quite amazed by how well the story is with this film, i dont look at mr t as a bad person in this film, i look at him as a inspiring person as much as stallone is this is because mr t is in a terrific tv show that came after this film, The a team in which mr t's role in the a team is more of a fun sidekick than how he acted in this film you would think that, maybe if this film had slightly more fun twist, mr t's role wouldn't seem so scary to a lot of people cause he's just there for show, cause in real life, he's a very nice guy, and if this got a redo in the style of grudge match mr t would be more likely to be a boxing coach, training a young black boxer, while stallone had like a young man as his trainee
I finally watched this movie rods with my mom and we did enjoy it and Rocky Balboa played by Sylvester Stallone he did a great job in this movie and he was so awesome in this film too and he was badass in this film like he did in the previous two movies and Apollo Creed played by Carl Weathers he did a great job too as well and he was so awesome in this film and he was a good mentor for Rocky Balboa too and Adrian Pennino played by Talia Shire she did a great job too as well and she was very awesome in this film too and Paulie Pennino played by Burt Young he did a good job too as well and he sure was a bad drinker but he did a great job for changing his bad moods swings too and Thunderlips played by Hulk Hogan he did a really good job too but he barely in this film though but it was nice to see him fighting with Rocky Balboa in this movie though and Mickey Goldmil played by Burgess Meredith he did a good job too but sadly he dies in this movie though but his legacy for his character will always lived on though and he was a great mentor for Rocky Balboa too in this movie and finally Clubber Lang played by Mr. T he did a good job as the main villain role for this movie and he was awesome for this character role and he was so scary in this film too and he was badass in this movie too and overall I’m gonna give Rocky III (1982) a 9.5/10 stares I really did enjoy this movie but could of been little bit better if the coach could of make it in this movie though but that’s just me though in my opinions and thoughts on this movie Drumdums brother

Mr T was indeed scary. I remember wanting to see this in the theater so bad back in the day.

The soundtrack on this one hits hard!! I love this one. Rocky IV is my favorite, then Rocky III.
I love that he loses in 3 and has to get hungry again.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Right! Definitely a lesson in life.
Eye of the Tiger is a good score for this film too bro 😎

My favorite rocky movie
I would love to see Rocky III and IV on the big screen.
Both movies are pure spectacle.
Pure theater.
Rocky 1-5 are playing at my local movie theater this week, I’m watching all of them.
I watched this movie and number 4 in the cinema and both were like being at a real boxing match, cheering, booing and chanting. Was epic
I would have LOVED to have seen that final fight of 3 in the theater. 4 was amazing.
I know Rocky was the hero but I was a Mr T fan so I wanted him to win lol. That final fight was epic though and who could forget Paulie's robot lol.
+lelouchdslayer Haha the robot was in 4. Yeah Mr T was a very exciting opponent.
Watching these reviews is making me want to break out my Rocky collection.
+lelouchdslayer Haha that was my intent!
Darn you lol
If Clubber hadn't disrespected Apollo .. enough said
Love Rocky III. And I especially love Apollo Creed in this film! He was a scene stealer! 🥊🥊
Hell yeah he is!
Jeff Duarte as an adult I almost cried when Apollo died. Apollo forever!

I didn't like rocky 5 , they should have made rocky 5 be clubber langs vs ivan drago because I would have love to see how that would play out
Clubber was in early versions of the Rocky IV script but MGM decided they did not want Mr. T to reprise his role.

Hell to the yes. Clubber was one scary dude. Stallone always picked the right opponents for these movies.

Southpaw is the story of rocky 3.
Just watched this again. I saw it in the movies in the 80s.
They should learn the advanced boxing technique: the block
It's as if no one that had anything to do with the movie ever watched a boxing match and then decided to just make a boxing movie.
Thanks for the review. I agree with you. Why don't you watch Rocky V then? It actually has its merits!

Stallone got down to like .3% body fat and had to be taken to the hospital
Yeah I heard that. Crazy.
He looked great tho.
Heavyweight boxers doesn't have bodies like that. They need more rounded bodies and more weight - although not fat.
@@hegstad9 Stallone wasn't actually a heavyweight in real life.
Hell yes
MR.T PITIES THE FOO YOU DON'T LIKE THE ROCKY MOVIES.....EXCEPT FOR ROCKY V...MR T SAYS THAT MOVIE SUCKS
+TheEpicElluminati Haha Mr. T. is right!
Rocky 3 is probably the saddest Rocky.
3 and Balboa. Yep.
Don't hate on Ricky 5, It's a good movie.
"I'll never watch 5" 😂😂
Hahahaha you got me!
