Still don't know why they (Malo) didn't continue having more hits or more publicity. They were such an amazing group heard all over the world, I heard them in Okinawa Japan back in 1970 (I heard them for the first time in Puerto Rico back in '69 but did not know who they were until I found out Jorge is Carlos Santana's brother) wow!

Have not heard this song in many years but I heard it today on the cd for the Showtime series Dexter. I grew up in Miami Beach where the show is supposed to take place. I can remember hearing this music coming from someone's transistor radio on WQAM and mixing with beach sounds, people laughing, children playing the waves and seagulls and an air plane pulling a banner up and down the coast!! I loved this song!

I was born about 8 years after this song was released, so obviously I don't have any first hand knowledge of it's impact. I live in Los Angeles, CA and heard this song a few times on the oldies radio stations here. I really like it. Great tune, music, lyrics. I love older music from the 50s and 60s, most of which I heard through various oldies stations. I'm surprised it took me so long to finally hear this one. It must not have been a huge hit at that time.

This was one of the first incarnations of Malo...Tom Poole on lead trumpet...Raul Rekow on congas..Leo Rosales on Timbales and Lead Vocals...and of course..Mr. Malo himself..on back up vocals...Arcelio Garcia...Jorge Santana on lead guitar...and the great and late Richard Kermode on keyboards..what an awesome lineup....and yet the magic continues...go see MALO

Richard Bean wrote & sang lead on the original recording of Suavecito, by the time this segment aired Richard had already left the group. Jorge Santana would later follow & start his own band simply calling it "Jorge Santana." Jorge would once again teamed up with Richard on lead vocals, the songs Sandy & Love the Way made some noise for the group. Richard still performs with his band Sapo & once in a while brings Jorge to the stage as a guest.

A month earlier on March 4th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #18 and spent 12 weeks in the Top 100...
