Powder Coating - how to strip paint - Greensolv Vs Rim Strip Vs B17

- We just bought Greensolvs set up, and it was pricey....but we needed to upgrade our system for our health and for consistency. Also we are really tired of dealing with nasty vapors. This stuff stinks a bit but its way better! Sit back relax and enjoy the battle. (please note we were not sponsored by greensolv or by rim strip in this). Rim strip is still a great option for those who can not drop 16k on the greensolv setup.

Would love to see a video tour of your blasting setup. There are so many ways to go about it, I'd like to see yours.
When I talked with a few other coaters that use the GreenSolv and GreenSolv themselves they really recommend cleaning it out between sets of wheels going in/out....
Someone had a huge ladle looking deal they swipe thru and clean it out with
I'd still blast them anyway so i know the profile is on point. Actually, I'd still keep the same process of stripping, blasting, outgassing, the only thing that would change is the smell of my shop lol
HIGHLY suggest building you a cage to hold wheels and a electric hoist. I have that above my Rim strip deal..couple of 1” square stock with a eyebolt welded and a small piece of steel to hold against the mounting flange of the wheels...makes life sooo much easier.
They say if you do that GreenSolv it kinda etches the wheel for you? Did that happen? (Haven’t finished watching the video yet)
Question is, can I buy 1 gallon? Why is this next to impossible?
Haha..Fudge rounds!!! 😂😂😂
My chubby butt noticed that too.
Put a set of wheels in turn off hot tank for the night all done ready for next day love my hot strip tank, Nice vid.
Yup I'm loving it so far.
Let me get one of those fusge rounds man. I subscribed and everything.
Id love to switch. Just can't fathom spending $20k to strip stuff lol. The $700 isn't bad every 3 to 4 months lol.
We were buying one every month, so we were at like 8400 a year, with this chemical we should be at like 2000 to 4000 a year. So Save 4000 to 6000 a year, it will pay for itself that way in less than 4 years. Also its much safer for us and stable according to the Greensolv.
Who built your chemical tanks and can you explain what you do with the “old stuff” when you decide to buy new / switch it out
Good stuff!!!
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who’s rim strip is just sludge 90% of the time. How much rim strip do you go through on average ? I do probably 2-3 sets per week and I’m going through 50 gallons every 3 months.
We were doing about the same. I ordered a barrel every 6 to 8 weeks.
Yeah I’ve noticed mines almost pretty much sludge at this point. Cleaning out the overpack drum is some times a nightmare...and it turned my rinse tank so acidic you could use that water to charge a car battery I swear.
@@omalleycustomcoatingsjimmi4839think big dude. O'Malley Custom Coatings and Battery Services.
So how do you still like it 6 months later? Does it still work fast or has it slowed down? How is it keeping the tank clean? Looking to switch to something similar soon.
How do you dispose of these chemicals after they're no longer useful? I run a shop here in Europe, it is unheard of to use potent stuff like that, not even available.
Do you do anything as far as treatment of the rinse water before it goes down the drain? I use greensolv but we are in a industrial condo and the neighbors complain about the smell in their drains from our rinse water?
Wait till you try to strip a Lexus or Toyota wheels it will take days plus blasting. I have 2 tanks 1-GreenSolve and the new Benco B17E. The Benco out performed GreenSolve every time at half the cost for the chemicals. Martin is super nice but I’ve never been able to strip 3 sets of wheels in a 10 hour day. I’ve had GreenSolve for 4 years now.
So is b17e like greensolv? Does it need heated too?
@@RightNowPowderCoating yes it does; Phil @ Benco has a new tank that we were lucky enough to be asked to real world test drive and I like the fact that they use a heating element in a oil bath floor. It’s much larger than GreenSolve tank. I had problems with the size of the GreenSolve tank; I couldn’t fit a set of Porsche staggered wheels in it, too small. Basically I gave Benco all the pros and cons of both tanks and they are now about to produce a new tank worth buying. The tank I have I can fit 8- 18” wheels in with the rack. Strip time is averaging 2.5- 3.5 hours for Mercedes ect. You still need to keep the b17 for the Lexus wheels. We let them sit overnight in either tank then we put them in b17 for 15 minutes and they are bone clean. So yeah there’s a lot of information on the subject.
Do you need a stainless tank for greensolve or can it be regular mild steel?
Scary stuff
Can you please explain what's the full process of the striping, and what do you do with the dirty liquid.
Thanks bro
Just put part in, pull out, if clean we rinse over a spill pallet and the sludge sinks to the bottom, when its getting full we suck water out and put sludge in drum, and pay way toooooo much to have it hauled out.
Well it’s been 2 years, are you still using it?
I’ve been using quick strip 2000. It dissolves powder coat fast. I strip parts in under 5 minutes almost all the time.
Never used it, but thats amazing.
But $300 for 5 gallons?! That 5 gallons better last the year. How many wheels can you strip with the clean strip 2000 before it's useless sludge?
Great video. Should get the protection wrap off you stainless tank soon. Heat and time will work against you
Thanks for the tip
Hello. The other tank has soda ?? What kind of reaction does to the stripper ?
its a rinse thank and we add baking soda to neutralize it. It foams ups and gets you the ph you need
🔥 video
Wonder how much it costs to have the waste picked up
Hey was just wondering can anybody order/purchase rim strip..and or greensolv or do you need some type of certifications?
My rim strip stakes everything off in 15-20 mins... your rim strip looks like solid sludge and not very much acid left
Yes, you have to keep it topped off, we have not cleaned it in a bit due to switching. But we noticed you have to keep it fresh or it stops working as well. The benefit is we should get more wheels in and out with much less sludge...flakes....paint debris.
Yeah I wish I could make the switch but it's the cost factor..lol do you wish you had the agitated tank for a little bit of speeding up the "gravity" strip
What metal tank are you using for the rim strip? I was told by sales rep to be very careful on choosing a tank
We had it custom build per B17 guidelines. Its a stainless something or another we had a local fab shop make, for that tank and our rinse tank it was like 4 or 5 k.
How come some shop don’t do wheel
They are tricky and a lot of work at first. Once you get it down it's easy though.
Weird..... I use Chemstrip and I takes like 10 to 15 mins to strip a wheel for me....
But....how much chemical do you go through?
7 or 8 HOURS to get to temperarture? Anything over 1-2.5 hours loses money.
How so?
So 11 months in, how's it going? Have you used a full drum of greensolve yet? I've been following this video for 7 months now waiting to pull the trigger to buy either this kit or just stick with benco/rimstrip WE NEED ANSWERS lmao
Going great, would never go back, have not had to buy a new drum yet but we dont do the amount of wheels we use to. Just one to two sets a week now vs 4 to 5. We are about due to buy one here soon but still love using it vs the nasty stuff.
@@RightNowPowderCoating yea, i just put in an inquiry to them. I have b17 now, but the price went up, they're dicks, and i just don't want to really deal with harsh chemicals hence why we went from wet paint to powder coat. The greener the better! 😂😂 also, i feel you on the work load, I've been hemorrhaging money for the last few years because of the Covid. Time to get back into it, i need to make things pretty again. Thanks for the update brother! Good luck and i hope you guys pick back up soon!
What happens whith the stripping liquid when its done ?
What do you mean? Most of it evaporates over time, we just add to it.
@@RightNowPowderCoating Well all that powder flying around is not very Organic...loll all the vapors from the 2 baths u have ...your ventilation needs an update ASP ...been in ventilation and air quality business for nearly 30 years now + im an Artist doing lots of Epoxy Art and shelves and Tables + do quiet a lots of painting ( art) so thats wy i subcribed to your channel you seem to be the best here on You Tube so i could had to Craft the Art of Powder Coating...whith the Pros to become a Pro my father always said...👍

What brand is your rimstrip tank? Would like to get one
custom build buy local fab shop
Anybody knows how 1010p compares to b17 or rimstrip
We bought that, have like 55gallons just sitting cause it smell so bad when hot and filled the shop
@@RightNowPowderCoating really? 1010p is even worse than rimstrip? smell wise... I heard it wasn’t as bad as rim and b17 and I’m in Texas so it gets hot!
@@perknowitzki7158 its different, hard to explain...
I’ll shoot you a PM on Facebook of my hoist deal...
1 year review next month
Not a good demonstration one tank has brand new stuff in it the other ones dirty with like no chemical
