I was and am totally fascinated by what I saw. I learned so much from this video. One of the things that comes to mind is what all it takes to improve & ensure the floors are even. I am fascinated by your knowledge and the knowledge of the contractor. I am looking forward to seeing more of these videos. Thank you for increasing my knowledge, this is great appreciated.
Great video! Learned a lot and now have a new perspective on what I need to consider. When we bought 50 acres near Albany, it came with an 1800's farmhouse that we were told was a "knockdown". I'm hard pressed to tear the old beauty down with all its history and all. As your video noted, with a good roof and solid foundation, anything in between can be restored. It may also be cheaper than an entirely new home project.
Great job on this one! It worries me though to think about what's going to happen in 20-30 years when the Rich's and Matt's of the industry aren't working anymore. I feel like there are fewer and fewer contractors out there with that level of knowledge.
great...thanks...Looking at tackling a rebuild in France with similar problems..keep them vids coming...i started my work life as a carpenter and then moved into a completely different business....now mid 50s i return....life has gone full circle....this is what we did before they made gyms for IT guys..lol
Who is this guy?!! And can he come to my house!! Impressive!! 😮

Very informative. Thnx, alot. I live in a 115 yrs currently in Brooklyn NY, that needs remodeling, especially on the foundation. Could you assist or recommend a good inspector in NY?
I literally missed the most important part, you you put 2x4s over the subfloor and then plywood over that. This makes your air gap, really large one, so that it handles any moisture that comes through.
I'd say it's like a baseball player wearing a hat during a night game. Maybe it's not 100% necessary but if it's part of your every day uniform you just get used to wearing it.
That's funny since Rich was doing building science videos when Matt R was in diapers. I've been lucky enough to learn from guys like Rich and many others that are 70+ years old and still hitting it hard.
I love old timers who like to talk about what they do. There is a lifetime of knowledge and screwups to learn from there.
Great knowledge!! Also the animation team did fantastic job in visioning what the dude was talking about.

Thanks, Becky! We were also in awe of Rich’s depth of building science knowledge! He was awesome to work with!

Idk why I like Lowe’s videos so much but here I am
This made me feel so much better about wanting to remodel such an old home from the 20s!
Anybody else see the attempted and failed handshake at 3:08?
Good recovery though
😂😂 it happens
Awesome
Came to the comments as soon as it happened! Like the other commenter stated, smooth recovery.
I don't think he saw it,

Would love to see this project all the way through! Fascinating!
Check out "Building science education" on f.b. we will have pictures of the build posted there every couple weeks.
Thanks for the interest
Damn old boy left him hanging with the handshake 🤝
Great episode, love seeing someone from that generation so on top of the building science aspect of building
A master man that guy
Excellent attention to detail 👌🏽
True wisdom! Thank you for sharing!
Excellent video.. That Man is a genius. My home needs this work.
need more of these videos on 100 year homes in the NE and coastal cities like Philly and NY
I am buying an old home with uneven floors and foundation issues so this is great info
Great video! This was really interesting! I would like to see this when it's completely finished!
i agree

excellent observations and analysis for building in a changing climate!
Thanks Matt
This is the most understandable and correct way Ive ever been able to follow and I am a Girly girl Thank you xxxoo

Do y'all have workshop classes on stuff like this?
Some of these older guys have a lot of wisdom.
This is awesome, great info

Man the expense to do all that has to be enormous. Would you have saved by demolishing then rebuilding?
Man they left him hanging 🤝
1:08 Same Music As Thomas And Friends Building The New Line Trailer
The best.
I love how they showed us the gutting part .... apparently they think that's easy, there's a million obstacles you can run into while gutting a house.
it would be helpful to know how much this project ran, otherwise great video Thx
I could tell you. Look us up.
How much will it cost to rise the floor in old house
Skillful performance You have inspired me to work on my channel, thanks. 🐼
I knew the concrete floor wasn't happening first when he went through and described it with the animation. Good job tho, super informative.
Damn Nissan Titan looks too damn good.
To do this stuff as a career, do you do some type of apprenticeship somewhere?
Yup. Look up your local workers union and go down to their office. You can fill out some paperwork and see which companies are part of the Union.
@@musictube17 do u need a mechanical engineering degree too?
@@iluvcatslol5714 not with job experience
Only pouring a concrete slab isn't enough to allow jacking up the floor joists. You have to have some sort of foundation.
Wow those floors were wacky
I wanna remodel my home 😔 this home was built in 1962 no installation it’s so cold 🥴
He got left hanging bad on the handshake!
Yeah, I dont think after 20 years of knowing Rich he expected me to shake his hand like we just met eachother.
@@whitbeckconstructionllc9043 it happens man
Got left hangin' @ 3:08
The inspector with 50+ years experience know's his stuff. He is old school.
Yea and like most old timers…outdated with their knowledge. “Effervescence” is bubbles from club soda 😂 …he means Efflorescence
What program was used to do the 3D?
Cinema 4D
Should've stated the disclaimer at the very beginning.
I literally missed the most important part, you you put 2x4s over the subfloor and then plywood over that. This makes your air gap, really large one, so that it handles any moisture that comes through.
13:28 your welcome!
How are you gana take some of the dirt out?
Shovel.
What gives some of the old homes the smell of old books? Im looking at buying a home built in 1927 1 story ni basement just craw space
I think its the wood turning into paper. I just removed all the shiplap. I Regret it now I should have saved some.
How do you address radon
Wearing a hardhat in that situation is disrespectful to construction workers. Im only kidding. Learned a lot from this video
I'd say it's like a baseball player wearing a hat during a night game. Maybe it's not 100% necessary but if it's part of your every day uniform you just get used to wearing it.
lmao! anyone else catch what happened at 3:09?
In the South, regarding ants & termites, If you find one then you have the other too. You just haven't found them yet.
Wow
I feel like woodchips and saw dust got in the hosts bloodstream and now he cant sit still lol
My husband was a venahm and we really need help
You gentlemen are awesome! Wish I could've dealt with pros like you, not with thieves and idiotsin Canada.
Sucks you dont allow the contractor to show his logo. Hope he was compensated in some way.
LOL! 3:08! Denied!
Lol awsome, it happens
American house good to look at outside but nothing mess the foundation
two man tearing old insulation material down with tons of particles flying in the air as the flashlight shows, but none wearing masks
Osha violation right there lol
The old man been doing it for half a century and he seems alright to me 😂
Oh Lord that is what is wrong with my house
Same here
Same here as well !
Is that fiberglass just flying around lmao
This looks like our house....
I don’t even know how to hang a shelf, should just off myself lol
Hold on what’s his last name??
Good morning Lowe's team, can you guys help me to renovate my house? Pleaseeeee. 🙏🙏
he went for a handshake 😔
Am I the only one who wishes they hadn't gutted the inside?
I need someone to repair my home built in 1876
No introductions. No talking about yourself. No vague stuff. You need to tighten up these videos.
Compare that to Matt Risinger bla bla building scones bla bla look at me bla bla
Nope straight and to the point. I ain’t got time to listen to who that is or their life story
Ryde. You make your own videos and you tighten up. If you don't like how he introduces his video don't watch him create your own
I dont think this good idea but we will see .
I think this house should be demolished
I'll just throw some spackle on it, but thanks anyways.
No face mask while breathing in that cancerous insulation. Gotta protect yourself from that stuff.
Kinda stole this idea from Matt Risinger dont ya think?
Matt who?
My first thought too. Hopefully they have Matt on one of these videos since he’s probably the biggest building science channels on RUclips
That's funny since Rich was doing building science videos when Matt R was in diapers. I've been lucky enough to learn from guys like Rich and many others that are 70+ years old and still hitting it hard.
Ridiculous
Tear these garbage old houses down and replace with manufactured homes
American houses...... 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
