Hello Sarah... I'm new to soaping and am viewing RUclips instructional videos as if they're part of my daily sustenance... I'm so thankful for having found you.... this tutorial is wonderful! So packed with valuable information... these salt spa bars are absolutely beautiful... not ever having experienced how a salt bar feels to use, the look of yours COMPELS me to not only try using a salt bar but also to try making them myself... is this something you'd recommend a beginner to try making or should I wait until I've more experience with coming up with a formula of oils and additives to my liking? Not knowing how to choose which types of oils and additives to use is so intimidating but videos such as yours are helping!
Being new to soaping, I'm also trying to gather together supplies. I really like the soap mold you used in this video... am I wrong or does removing the bolts make it so that you're able to take off each side of the mold before removing the soap (does this question make sense!?!)??? Is this something you made yourself or is it something you purchased? Molds seem so expensive to purchase!!! If this is a DIY mold, can you do a tutorial on how you made it or are the instructions something you've available for purchase?
Thanks again for this wonderful tutorial.... ;o}
I have that same Ikea frother from Amazon too, that thing is so crazy powerful that it's almost scary to use hahaha! I've sent mica and oil splattering clear across my kitchen with it LOL.
It's definitely a power frother. Lol! My first Ikea frother died (my fault, I dropped it in the sink and the battery compartment got soaking wet) and so I went to Bed Bath and Beyond for my replacement one. Ugh, such a mistake. Spent too much money and it was a wimp…. so I bought another Ikea one. Lol!
Hi Sarah, these are awesome. Where did you get the acrylic mold? I love it.
Hi i have a question is there a video about how to pick a salt base for the soaps?
When did you pound it down? I must be doing mine at the wrong time, either too early or late. I love the look of this one sol pretty. Thank you for the video.
Thank you, Shonda! I pounded it down right after I swirled it (before running the chopstick around the outer edges of the mold). I usually edit out the "pounding/tapping down" part because people didn't like the noise of it in my other videos. :)
Thank you, I thought so but I wondered if I'm pounding mine to soon lol. I love your videos thank you
I only make salt bars and have always just added my salt at trace. I have heard you can make brine by adding salt to a gallon of warm water until it will not dissolve anymore. Than you have brine water on hand and do not need to make it for each batch. Have you heard of this method of making brine ? Also I like your mold can I ask were you purchased it.? Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I've been through 3 IKEA frothers before you realize they arent made too well. I have an electric one now. Joblot has a battery operated one also that is slower but made much better...but really what's the rush; it's only powder we are mixing. I love brine bars. My question and I can't seem to wrap my head around the math is when using soap calc what is the water as % to oils set to? I want to dissolve the maximum amount of salt in my lye water. What would the water discount be set to in order to take 20% of my water amt to calculate for my salt additive? The two tone black is beautiful.
Beautifully done! If I don't have individual molds but really want to make a salt bar can it make it in my regular soap mole then cut the bars earlier (12 hours or so)?
It might take only 1 hour! Check constantly.
what was the amount of salt that you added in the batter? It didn't look like much. Was it 100% of the Hawaiian or did you also add other sea salt? Will it be black on the skin with that much activated charcoal?
Hi. Where did u purchase UR mold? I am looking for similar mold for salt bars. TIA
Tytytyty OMG THANK YYOU!!!! THANK YOU ON THE FROTHER TIPS.
I flipping hate those things! Or atleast I did. I have tried so many of those wimpy useless things over the years. I needed one of those for my babies formulas and cereals. You put the thing in the water/ thin formula and it does 98% of NOTHING. ( my babies are now 17, 19 and 21). When I started soaping a few months ago I thought ohhh I will try to buy 1 of those dang things again. Maybe after about 20 years they have gotten better. NOOOOO THEY ARE THE SAME!!! I dont understand why they can't make the motor just a little bit stronger! !! I put my color in glycerin and Ive tried just oil and the dang thing stops spinning because the motor is to dang weak!!! I will be getting the IKEA!!! LORD, I hope your right lol..
When I lather a salt soap, it has a curdled/foamy look. Is this normal?
why did you put the charcoal into the white batter instead of into the already black batter?
palehoney79 just curious, cuz the soap looks great!
Probably to get the grey and black color. I don't think she wanted them black and white.
palehoney79 that was the salt she put in. The salt is coated with activated charcoal.
Where would I be able to buy that mold?
How many pounds of soap does your mold hold?
Has anyone ever tried dendritic salt in their salt bars? I'm trying not to have a thousand types of salt just for soap lol
So salt was added to lyle water? Not at trace?
Where did you buy your mold?
Ok. Do not use Dead Sea salt in salt bars. Can one use Dead Sea salt for brine instead
NewbieSoaper Do not use Dead Sea Salt in brine or salt bars. You'll end up with weepy, soft bars. It's a big, ol' mess. :) Regular fine sea salt is perfect for either though, and it's soooo inexpensive. You can find it in the cooking section of any grocery store.
Noted. Thx
Is this the righ one?

In the Netherlands IKEA sells them for 1 euro.
