Producers Mara Isaacs and Dale Franzen, and Warner Classics, in collaboration with Ghostlight Records, have released a new recording of the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical Hadestown, recorded live during the original run of the show at New York Theatre Workshop. This new musical written by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and developed with and directed by the three-time OBIE Award-winning director Rachel Chavkin, follows Orpheus' mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice. Together we travel from wide open plains where love and music are not enough nourishment to survive the winter, down to Hadestown, an industrialized world of mindless labor. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell's beguiling melodies and poetic imagination pit nature against industry, faith against doubt, and love against death.
I've been such a big fan of Amber Gray since Great Comet and idek why but the fact that her signature color in this show is still green makes me really happy.
Probably it's to represent the arrival of spring when she annually leaves the Underworld to be with her mother, Demeter, The Goddess of Grain and Earth Fertility.
Daveed Jefferson Coincidence??? I tHiNk NoT!
green looks beautiful on her!

The fact that there was a concern about keeping this moment alive, and that the words "official bootleg" were used make me fall in love all the more. Having this type of recording done officially, with good quality and live is everything we're always asking for and defending. This album is beautiful and brilliant. I hope the Broadway recording follows the same pathetic, and maybe opens the way for official and accessible video recording - though that sounds more like a dream by now who knows? A story for everyone who tries, right? So, let us do so.
The recording is very possibly the best-recorded thing I've ever heard; it's really remarkable.
Six Broadway recently adopted a similar style and I love it. When I first listened to hadestown I was in awe of how great it was then I went to see it and was amazed that the album sounds like they literally recorded on opening night
been a fan of the original anais mitchell album way before the staged version was produced and I hope it gets more attention and gets produced for broadway
This aged very well
The album was made because Anais wasn’t sure the original 2006/2007 stage version won’t head anywhere
@@alexgonzalez2307 Waiting in the Wings actually made a really great video about the history of it which mentions this
Here after they announced the Broadway run. I can't wait, but I also miss the original cast, especially Damon Daunno. I just want him back as Orpheus :(
I'm not hating on the new cast, though! I know they'll do great. But I also know that this cast will always be my favorite.
Same, I really like Damon, Nabiyah, and the fates, they're just so good in their roles, I was so sad that they were replaced
I am so ready for this musical on Broadway. I wish the pre-Broadway premiere wasn't so far away...from everything
Those of us who live "far away...from everything" are honored and excited to have Hadestown in Edmonton. We love having them here. It was a privilege to see the show!
It was amazing!! I ended up seeing it twice!
When is the Broadway?
You might know this already but the Broadway is coming in 2019, so very soon!
I was at the second preview on 3/23 and it was ASTOUNDING. This will be a huge hit!
This sounds just AMAZING.
i love how it started from a small little musical to a big broadway musical
She’s completely right
You can never get the same emotion from in the studio then on stage
Which ironically enough is the problem with the Hadestown OBCR, there's so much more life in the NYTW version.
Really, I prefer the OBCR songs because they’re smoother and there are a load more songs
if i dont get to see this musical next year im going to lose my mind. i. need. to see. it.
....did you get to see it?
Bro.... How are u this year? The chips are so fucking down that kshsksh lol
I saw it tonight. AMAZING. (And no, not so far away from everything!)
Me too! It was everything I'd hoped.

WHERE IS THE BOOTLEG?
WE NEED THE DAMN BOOTLEG!!
Pearl ._. For real. 😭 I need the bootleg. Someone has to have it. SOMEWHERE IT EXISTS. I CAN FEEL IT.
Guys we'll have it by summer 2019!
Hadestown filmed bootleg: Wait for me?
Fandom: we will...
I wish
@@pearl7778 ITS ON RUclips SOMEWHERE
The NYTW cast is my favorite to do this show. You can feel their passion in the live recordings and it's amazing!
Make this tour world wide :'( I want to see it in Europe somewhere
Tamás Czigola RIGHT? I live in Sweden, but if it came to Londong then id take the first fly,.
@@abookishfable8268 it was in London until yesterday :'(

Fun fact: Chris Sullivan, the actor for Hermes, also played Taserface in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Joey Foster WHAT
OH MY GOSH
Isn’t he Toby from this is us?
NOW I WANNA WATCH THAT
@@zbotello1439 Yes. Yes he is.
God I wish could've seen this cast they're all exceptional!
The amount of emotion in the last song almost made me cry holy-
What a voice Damon Daunno has
I really liked the staging and costuming at the Citadel performances. Fantastic show!
please i know they filmed it i'm begging you just release it
God I wanna see this so bad
I cannot believe that is Chris Sullivan, he sounds incredible
I cant wait till this comes to Australia 😭
God I need to listen to this again lol. My amateur troupe is doing a medley and none of them have listened to this version, only the Broadway... I, personally, prefer Damon Daunno and Nabiyah Be to Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada, but that isn't why I prefer this version; I prefer this version because you can feel their passion and their presence onstage and, while the studio recording may be cleaner, that's the problem. Hadestown and Greek myth in general is messy and emotional and passionate, not clean and perfect.
thank the GODS Damon's voice was preserved!
Love that this was made by a Canadian
love it
Wait did Rachel say "official bootleg"?? I hope I didn't misunderstood and there actually is a professional recording and if there is Im literally gonna cry if they ever release it
She meant that as a metaphor for “live cast recording”
Why can’t Orpheus win? Why can’t we change the myth.
He did technically get what he wanted, he did get to be with her, just in hell.
Don’t know if you’d be into that but there’s a Middle English poem called Sir Orfeo that has a happy ending. Also, there’s fairies.
....Hip.
is there a bootleg?
no, but when it comes out on broadway it'll probably get one lol
i know it’s probably not happening, but i hope they get damon daunno back for the broadway version.
Patricia Van Horn
Me too, his voice is angelic
@@lavalamp9007 Probably going to go watch it on broadway and then rewatch the bootleg a bunch
I have a link if you want iy
Is that Toby????????!!! I’m actually shook
Saw the last night in London.. mostly ruined by an unnecessarily emotive screaming and whooping audience.. It seemed musically very repetitive.. and the biggest joke was that the guy playing Orpheus (ex Spiderman) had a really irritating voice.. which is rather ironic.. given that the mythical character supposedly had a voice that would charm the Gods... Not So !! at least the guy featured here seems to have a pleasant voice.
Yeah I saw the show before the last show in London with my Latin class (prep for university Classics). I still loved it because it was my first time seeing it, but I wish I lived in America and could've gone to the NYTW version when it was on...
Yeah Damon's voice is better than Reeve, but Reeve is also good. The only thing that I really love in broadway version is EVA NOBLEZADA and on this one is DAMON
Is there a video recording?
