Blowing Up Megaton - Fallout 3's The Power of The Atom | Lore, Quest, Analysis EXPLAINED

- In today’s video, I wanted to discuss the quest, The Power of The Atom, featured in Fallout 3. This entertaining quest has many different pathways and possible endings, in which make it a great case study. For many, Megaton was likely the first city they ever visited within the capital wasteland. From the outside, it appears as though it’s a scrounged-up pile of scrap, attempting to pass as a civilization. From the inside, it’s still technically like that, but the city is full of life and unique characters. The first one to introduce themselves to the player is Lucas Simm’s, the acting mayor and sheriff of town. The conversation begins with learning more about your estranged father. It can then be steered in the direction of the city itself. Megaton gets its name from the giant, intact prewar bomb that sits at the center of town. Most folks know that it’s still active, but with no external force to set it off, it shouldn’t be a problem, right? Well, that’s where this quest begins. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

I stumbled upon your channel when playing oblivion recently and I have to say you’re one of my favorite elder scrolls/ Bethesda RUclipsrs. Your run through and explanations of quests are entertaining and engaging
I really appreciate the kind words! I’m glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the content! That’s all I can ask for! :)
@@ABardsBalladwe need you on new Vegas and Skyrim asap as much as I’ll miss oblivion ❤
They knew what they were doing using Lucien Lachance's voice actor for Mister Burke
😂 literally! All I could think about was Lucien while he was speaking
Hah, I had no idea was him. But yeah that's kind of chilling. He sounds like an evil snake whether he's speaking in a black robe or a 50's suit.
"Wow, look at this amazing nuke, surely nobody will survive this"
Moira: Wow bummer that went off haha, so what can I do for ya? :-)
Good old Moira 😂 I think it’s cool they kept her demeanor, but I also would’ve found it interesting if ghoul her was a lot more grumpy 😂
Lol... I set the nuke off once, for an evil playthrough. Seeing her come up to me ghoulified in the smoking crater still with her glass half full perky old self made me feel like dirt.
I know it's just a game, but it hits hurting good people, digitalised or real. That's how good the game and the writing is I suppose. Save to say I never blew up Megaton again.
I love the nuances of Wes Johnson's voice when he plays evil NPC's, Mr. Burke and Lucien Lachance both give a shiver down your spine.
ES4 & FO3 Vids? Your my fav YT channel. THANK YOUUUU
Keep it up, been watching your channel since that video about a ghost whose soul trapped in a shipwreck.
Wow that’s early! I really appreciate the support and thank you for continuing to watch the videos!
Lovely video bard, refreshing to see some fallout content as well.😎
Bruh is literally just reincarnated Lucien. And I love it. I could see Lucien doing exactly what Burken would do. That's good writing
I always wanted to just set it off. Sometimes, you just wanna say screw it😂 also I think it's funny when the sherrif is like, "aight man, just look at it, maybe like try to dismantle it, yknow? Just don't try to blow us up. " Like, dude.... I just got to town. How in the world would I know, someone who just GOT OUT OF A VAULT MIGHT I ADD! to dismantle this thing???😂😂😂
😂 for real, to be honest, an explosive skill of 25 seems low to be able to set off a whole nuke 😂
I usually do every single quest there is in Megaton and then blow it up to live in luxury. All you have to do is give free purified water to the begger outside of Rivet City to get your karma back or even higher than you had it originally.
Moira continues to be the queen of positive thinking. She's one of my favorite F3 npcs.
The first time I ever played Fallout 3, I blew up Megaton as quickly as possible because but I saw it done in the E3 demo and thought it looked cool. As soon as I went back to the site and met Moira with all of her hair burned off, I uninstalled the game and went to bed because I felt so bad.
Lol..Good to know you reacted like that, just proves you have a heart after all ,when you think about it. And that's exactly what the phrase , " actions have consequences" means..
Not only did the bomb burn off Moira's hair, it vaporised the Sheriff's kid, and the little girl adopted by the guy with the eye patch, and the old couple that lived next to them. And wiped out everyone else in the town. Consequences like that hit hard when you're not pure evil. Proving the writing in the game was that good. Showing us who we really are, even if we are just role playing in a video game. Actions always have consequences.
@colddaze6680 Yeah... That's a pretty big death toll. I know it's just a game, but speaking with a survivor of the blast (and for it be Moira of all people) TOTALLY caught me off guard. She looked terrible. That hit so much harder than just seeing a crater in the ground.
At any rate, I did eventually install the game and play it afterwards. And I didn't blow up Megaton the second time. 😛 And in hindsight, Megaton is so much nicer to visit than Tenpenny Tower, at least for me. I wouldn't want a playthrough where Megaton is just eliminated as an option to visit.
@@seth4321Megaton is mostly good people apart from Moriarty, and the ex raider. But even he's trying to redeem himself.
Yeah exactly, Tenpenny tower, might as well be Trump tower of the wastes. Exclusively for the rich snobs, out of touch with the rest of the wastelands ordinary people.
Even so I never let the ferals in there to tear them apart. There was a couple of decent people living there too. I took the contract from the ghoul at Underworld to whack Tenpenny though. I figured if he was evil enough to pay some one to blow up Megaton just cause it "spoiled" his view of the horizon. I figured he deserves to die. The writers didn't make Tenpenny tower an easy decision. Not for me anyway, rich out touch narcissistic snobs don't necessarily deserve to be torn apart and eaten by a pack of ferals. Tenpenny, different story though.
I like megaton better than the 2 nickel tower. While ugly looks wise, it has so much more character than the tower. Of course, I've blown it up in so many playthroughs. 😂
Then again, on those same playthroughs, tenpenny tower receives it's culling as well.
I agree that Megaton has a lot more charm! It feels very appropriate for the apocalypse 😂
@ABardsBallad Location is also convenient. You actually have a reason to return to it. 2 nickel tower however is so out of the way that I almost never went down there
You forgot about if you let the Ghouls take over Tenpenny Tower and haven't finished this quest
You Rock Ballad 🔥🔥🔥
Question: What is the best way to level up in the game as a Pacifist?
That’s a great question, to be honest I’m not as informed on what gives you experience in the fallout universe vs TES universe, but I’d assume just discovering places and beating quests in a peaceful manner would be the best
@@ABardsBallad Not in that way. I meant what to do whenever I level up. What skills
Speech and Sneak are the only two. Talk your way out of certain situations and sneak around enemies
@@FlakoDaDon-Dada Thanks. What about for disarming the nuke?
