Forgot to comment but here are additional lore: 1. Essence dosent fully turned a non-human to a different species, only half-species and half-animal/current species 2. Essence is probably alive, as it contains a soul material. This might be why it decays organisms. Noticable because Ornate still has whiskers (incredibly hard to see) and Carol has those cross like ears/horns
i dont believe carol turned human or interacted with essence, her looking like rein at the start other level prolly just implies that rein is younger than her and carol "turning more humanlike" its just her growing older, this is seen in other skins too im also not sure that ornate is a tanuki as for maitake im pretty sure she didnt use essence at all, she just so happens to be a creature with the power of mushrooms, plus she did come out way before destiny's dawn
i dont think that essence turns animals into humanoids because with that logic: soda pop, stella, lemonade cat, discount dog and other animal like characters are high on essence
Yeah, they could have been exposed to Essence, too. For “high on Essence”, we don’t know how strong Essence actually is. It’s possible that it is so powerful that using only a small amount of Essence can cause mutation in a creature, and the creatures that are truly high on Essence are the decayed.
@5oda_star hmmmm so how about this: Stages of exposure to the starlight essence: stage 0: Normal animal stage 1: Animal begins to mutate, gaining a more human like appearance and intellect while keeping some if it’s animal properties stage 2: the animal gets the power of starlight that can be used as a lethal weapon stage 3: due long exposure and starlight’s ridiculously high power, the animal’s body can’t handle the power anymore and it’s starting to decay
