After making this video I realised that at least one of these was probably a scampaign. Kickstarter really has become the Wild west. But it's promising to see that cool games still get funded. I wish Dono's Tale got funded, it was one of my favs from this month. Which did you like?
Good afternoon, I have a question. The character has an animation of interaction with the environment, he needs to open the chest. But we can approach the chest from any side, even to the left, even to the right, and the opening animation must be started strictly from one position. How to correctly move the character from the current position to the animation start position? Use inversion kinematics + pathfinding or are there other ways?
Sure, but using THAT font for a game with THAT name is a clear attempt to piggyback off of the brand recognition of GTA, and that's what Rockstar Games would argue in court.
The 'difference' between inspiration and IP infringement in all its glory. I remember some greedy japanese studio tried to licence the pattern on Kamado Tanjiro's clothes, from demon slayer. One day, maybe, people will finally understand how this IP concept is only limiting everything for the sake of greed.
@@landru27 Yeah Rockstar can claim that the developers are infringing on Rockstar's IP but Rockstar can't just sue because of the font and the game is clearly a parody of GTA which protects the developers to some point. Rockstar would sue the developers for the game as a whole and not just for the font.
@@Reeryte Roger that. But who said Rockstar would sue for the use of that font? John said, "I'm not even sure you can use that name ... especially with that font." I don't see where anyone said that using the font itself is problematic. Agreed that the parody angle might offer some protection. Sadly, the US legal system can be costly to participate in, despite its nominal ideals. Not that the creator of Grand Theft Walrus has much to lose with just one backer and $1, but if I were in their shoes I wouldn't want to roll the dice on a legal battle with Rockstar. Even winning the case would leave them in a financial hole so deep the dreamed-of game would never see the light of day. Such is the sad state of the IP landscape here in the good ole U.S. of A.
Whenever i see a crowdfunded MMO and it is their first game i just think ....not a chance they need a history of quality games before i would even consider donating
Grand theft walrus is 100% going to get a cease and desist, but not from rockstar. From Disney. Grand theft walrus is a parody of gta in the simpsons, and you know how much disney loves to beat down a copyright infringer.
Nice breakdown of the campaigns. The 6 seconds of Touchdown Girls made me a lol - very suggestive 6 seconds! 15:33 . Dating sim games have a huge market, so I wish them the best!
I've been following Mandragora for a couple of years now and they are pretty good at marketing their game within the right community early on. And I think that's incredible important build that audience even if people just remember the name it will help you massively
Nice review. i hope someday, when my kickstarter campaign launches, it will be a success. i plan on building up audience first plus a demo before making the campaign. ☺️
Great video my friend. You and I have both been burned by Kickstarters before. There's been some great ones ( Skald Against the Black Priory comes to mind for me ) and some terrible ones ( Bloodstained Ritual of the Night , can you believe they raked in $5 million! I've seen student projects that looked better !! ) , so it always pays to assume that once you back a Kickstarter project you are in no way guaranteed of a ) liking the end result or b ) the end result ever seeing the light of day!
So true, and I think the rule of thumb is to check our creative ethics at the door and all start churning out blue haired boyfriend games and dating sims. Their success ratio seems to be higher than other genres.
15:05 I wonder, why so many "3d rendered visual novels" use such vulgar, uninspiring and soulless style. I am not against adult games. There are many of them with good art direction, but *these* ones... They not only suffer from the effect of uncanny valley, but also scream the corporate sterility. They look like they made of stock photos which are normally used in advertisements (which is okay being in the place they belong to) but infinitly worse.
Most adult ren'py games have visuals produced using moded Illusion games (either Honey Select or the more anime one). To be honest, I've got to give it to the developers of these games, some of the stuff they pull of with the limited animations, environments and models is amazing storytelling.
That Unplug game that advertised putting backers in the game as the main character.....their examples didn't even look like the person's photo. One guy even had glasses that didn't exist in the photo! Sure, maybe your friend wants you to mess around and do that for them, but...don't advertise with that.
Interesting! A pity most of these games are just flooding the market, so it's harder to find games with real potential. This makes me want to go back to a game Idea I have. I did look into using Unreal Engine 4, but I just didn't understand it!
most of them are a bunch of naive devs with no logic thinking simply putting your trash project in KS would get them fast money. it doesn't work like that..
How can you have only 4$ pledged ? I mean, don't you have any friends ? Did your parent disowned you ? Did you talk about your game to anyone ? I mean, even if your game is crap, you should at least have enough people to get like... 100$ or something. How poor of a job you did that you only get 4 backers that all only pledged 1$ ?

Indeed, btw it could be a good topic for a dedicated video talking about those obvious scampaigns with Assets flip/cryptoscams etc...
Dono's Tale is my favorite! Gameplay looks tight. Music is catchy. Is it possible that it's too cute?
my favorite would be the Unplug game. But I'd be more likely to play the Foolish Mortals games just because I'm interested in puzzles a lot more

This video was very interesting and like you said "Kickstarter really has become the Wild west"
The font used for GTA is called Pricedown and was created by Ray Larabie and his fonts are free to use. The font is based on The Price Is Right logo.
Pricedown black is free and the other are $11.95 each. I think it's worth the price it's a very good font.

also showing janky videos and expect people to throw money at them for their "cool idea"
The demo they have shows a lot of promise but it’s still up in the air if they’re going to complete it and it’s been out for quite a few years
It's nice to see a Hungarian studio that's not just doing contract work for foreign studios but got their own IP. (1:20 Mandragora)

Mandragora... WOW. I can't remember the last time I was so impressed with a game's art style (Cuphead, perhaps?). It looks absolutely incredible.
Nice breakdown of the campaigns. The 6 seconds of Touchdown Girls made me a lol - very suggestive 6 seconds! 15:33 .

LOL @ the quarterback game. The slowmo sensual 6 second video. Gave me a great chuckle.

Dono's tale really seems like a fun game! The kickstarter was well done, such a shame they didn't reach their goal.
Love these kickstarter review vids, they are so much fun and get a bit of insight here and there on what went wrong (or well!)
So sad Mandragora is already closed, you were right in saying they knew how to do it, because I instantly wanted to play it!
Pretty sure Splattercat had a review of that one recently if you want to watch some game play!
@@dirtywhitellama Haha, I meant more that I wished I could have backed it before it closed. I'll be patient now
some really impressive stuff being made, they deserve to be funded!
I love your kickstarter reviews! I feel like I learn a lot, perhaps I'll try one for my game someday... mmm probably not haha
I like a lot these videos, I learn a little thing evry time you drop some similar, keep going
Nice review. i hope someday, when my kickstarter campaign launches, it will be a success. i plan on building up audience first plus a demo before making the campaign. ☺️
10:54 LMAOOOO
Edit: 15:15 bro how do you keep finding these, this isn't the first video either LOL
Can u make a part two of this video
Or a series of this kind of video I love it when u critic and give advice I'd appreciate it if u did more of this

So many games, so little time. And so many cheerleaders!

Nice, Aero GPX is basically a fan-made F-Zero.
"Should we watch this video?" 😂😂😂
Kinda makes me wonder why we aren't all just making boyfriend simulators for half a million dollars

Mandragora is going to be a good Hungarian game! Buy it! :)
U should look at Dewdrop Dynasty
When can I play your game?
Mandragora has really a super potential

ooh. and i've been using ctrl-click for years. Thanks !
Some of these kickstarters are like delusional Tinder profiles. You can just laugh and move on :D
delusional Tinder profiles, lmao😅
Dono's Tale is way too Yoshi (and mario/paper mario) unfortunately
i'm pretty sure that last one about an 11 year old boy was made by an 11 year old boy lmao
I thought a video should be no longer than 5 minutes on Kickstarter?
Thanks looks like everyone wants to get funding for there games
Lol I can tell you held back. Some of that stuff looks absolute shite
it makes it even funnier
you are so funny when looking at the singaporean one 11:49
I can't tell if 80% of those devs are delusional or just trying to scam.
