I like Timothy B Schmit but I wish he would have been there for Don Felder when he needed a shoulder to cry on the day he'd gotten fired from the Eagles.
I wish Don H. and Glen would follow Tim's example, I thought Tim showed a lot of class at the Rock 'N Roll Hall & Fame towards Randy, I can see him being a nice, down to earth gentleman.
Don Henley and the Eagles are in one word. . . professional. Everything in life is a journey and a lesson #ups and downs. These guys have entertained and inspired generations. Thank you for entertaining us!
I appreciate your comment. Most people who make comments about the interviewer, the questions, etc, are either jealous, never been in front of a camera, or have never been to a red carpet premiere and stood before one of the greatest musicians, actors, or directors and tried to speak. I am 30 years older than Braunwyn, who's freshman in college, and I was nervous just holding the camera. It's easy to make comments, but more commendable to get up there and do something meaningful in your life.
Randy Meisner is the sweetest and gentlest of the original lineup. This doc shed a lot of light on the members and their relationships with each other. Pity Randy left the band so soon. I wish him all the best. The music was gr8 then and still sounds good today. Enjoyed the doc.
Sorry you're ill. My heart goes out to you. My best friend died of MD about 4 years ago. I wanted to do a story on his life. I took him to lots of concerts back in my college days and throughout the 80's. The Stones, KIss, Fog Hat, Rush, Eagles reunion tour, Journey, Santana, Romantics, Pat Benatar, the Knack and he was a big Eddie and the tide fan, so we went to almost every single one of his concerts. Anyways, all my best to you. It should be on Showtime this month - History of Eagles.
Everything the Eagles learned about sonwriting is attributable in part to Jackson Browne's enduring freindship, and some of the time Jackson spent with them learning the craft & trade. Hopefully before too awfully long someone by intelligent design will create a 21st century film about Jackson Browne. His contribution to So. Cal. Rock are immeasurable. In the1960’s Jackson worked withThe Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Neco Case, Tim Buckley.Case recorded the JB song“These Days” written when JB was 16.
just as you are kind sometimes and mean others so is Henley and every human....we are multifaceted creatures and to have friction between ourselves and other humans is simply the nature of who we are...no one can say they always are easy or did the benevolent thing..we all break and lose our temper and become selfish but the point here is to strive and continually evolve and become better..we never stop this process so open hearts
Actually, I thought the interviewer did a GREAT job "disarming" the interviewees. If you look at TBS before she asked her first question, he seemed a bit apprehensive and uncomfortable. But with her asking atypical, "non-fawning" questions they seemed to relax a bit more and became more conversational. THAT is the sign of a good interviewer.
I feel bad for people like hneley-highly intelligent, eloquent, men of pride who hav e to answer a really stupid, useless question like "what was going on in your life between Desperado and Life in the fast lane".
Explain Tight lippled 'It was FREY who pulled no punches in this documentarsy giving his honest (in his opinion) interpretations. Henley--mighty quiet on subjects such as DRUGS, GROUPIES, FIGHTS. :)
Dave, I'm only responding because it was a good question. Between those years the Eagles became highly successful, their sound changed from Joe Walsh's influence and then they broke up in 1980. They were dealing with becoming a wildly successful band which led to their eventual break up. The reporter is only 19 and wasn't born until 20 years after they formed as a band. So for the new generation, that wasn't such a stupid question. She was trying to get him to talk about how success.
It's a film community Dave, not a music community. We handled 20 Red Carpets in 8 days and its a little hard to be up to date. We didn't even know who was going to show up to the Red Carpet until 20 minutes before. Not many people can pull off a great interview on the fly, especially on the Red Carpet . And if you've never done an off the cuff interview with a major star like Don or any of the Eagles, its hard to do. I was just filming and I was nervous. Where were you, by the way? bet ycdi
I get the feeling Henley came within *inches* of ripping that poor girl's head off. Bless her heart - she didn't know. I'm glad he kept his cool and played nice.
It's funny, Part 2 is on Showtime yet I never saw Part 1. I watch Showtime constantly but never heard of this! It's not on On Demand either. Wondering where they hid it. Wish they made things accessible like HBO. This interview's title is misleading. Seems to be the thing nowadays, get people to watch regardless of what you must say to do it. I'd have watched the interview--and not been disappointed the doc wasn't here, btw.
timothy may have still been a bit raw from recent neck and throat surgery due to a cancerous growth of some kind......true enough though they never get him to sing enough in my opinion....
If thats what the reporter was going for, then maybe she should've clarified her question a little better. It was such a broad, pointless question...a reporter of any age should realize that. If they dont, then maybe they arent the best person to be interviewing someone like Don Henley. Also, I thought it was pretty insulting to ask Timothy B. Schmit to identify himself. You're covering the premier of a movie about The Eagles, and you ask a band member to tell us who he is? Really??
Where was I? in the hospital...I am quite ill. I cant fly..i cant travel around going to these wonderful premeire events. I am quite ill..with an incurable herart and spine issues- ineed an ambulance literally to go ut--you should do a docuemtar y on ME--before I DIE... am a fan of the Eagles, I interviewed everyone from Santana to Bo Dddley in the 80;s Everyone buty Bob Dylan,, ..In any case-I do look forard to this documentaery film. Sorry I jump. best of luck. Ask Henley--"WHO IS DENNIS"
OK thank you. I am having major health issues--they cant seem to help or diagnose me...very seerious. .sorry for criticizing. When I wrote I would have asked Henley :Who was Dennis" --it's an obscure reference. Henley on National TV in 1993 at the Clinton Inaguration Concert stopped between song sand said on Live TV" its the BLUE Valiums Dennis--the BLUE ones" ??? Dennis ???
Well Deb ..above! has no clue about the entertainment industry. Interviewing elder rock statesmen can be very daunting , disconected and empty. Braunwyn does well, great eye contact, bubbly, factual and baring a slight hint of GEN Y entitlement. there's a moment when Don Henley looks at her after she asks about what happenned in between thiose 2 albums, he looks at her with grumpy old man disdain , pauses and then deicides to be nice .Lets remember this is living history to Braunwyn.
One of the biggest mistakes Don Henley and Glenn Frey has ever made was them not doing a "Behind The Music: Eagles" episode sometime around 2003, I believe their episode of "Behind The Music" would have painted Don Henley and Glenn Frey in a positive light and Don Felder in a negative light and I can see a lot of music fans hating Don Felder along with Felder's book "Heaven And Hell" not being a major success because they would see Felder as a selfish, whiny, malcontent crybaby craving for attention and them not wanting to support Don Felder. I also can picture Don Felder's "Heaven And Hell" being the vendictive middle finger to the episode of "Behind The Music: Eagles", Don Henley and Glenn Frey totally fucked themselves in the ass for not doing a "Behind The Music" episode on VH1 right after Don Felder gets fired from the band.
I look forward to seeing it. Henley has never been an open guy when asked about Eagles' history. I hope Felder, Meisner, and Leadon are given ample time in this documentary. I want to hear more from them. I read Felder's book, "Heaven and Hell"... It was an insightful and candid account of those years in the 70's. Of course, I understand that such was his perspective, and would like to hear from all angles - especially the terse-lipped Henley.
I don t think truth in advertising ever meant anything...they are after all trying to make money but I do think that frey asking for more money for he and \Henley made him come off rather badly and am surprised he did not care putting that out there..that being said schmit and the gang still made millions so..are you really gonna complain that you only made 3 mil to their 9..i m not and that's why they are in the position they are now...
you know their greed is on them... and if you re watch the doc listen when schmit talks about "if you are able to work and support yourself and your family it s good!!!" simple enough said....that s the philosophy to live by not who ever dies with the most toys wins...dumb.....
i agree but in her defense i don't think i have ever heard one person interview great musicians that did not irritate the living shit out of me with the most stupid fucking questions with the exception of anthropologist/ metal history documentarian Sam Dunn.
Agreed. Plus being fully unprepared for an interview... Sheer laziness. And the annoying tone so typical nowadays with the college edumacated (sarcasm intended) specimens...
Even Henley was a bit thrown by the pedestrian nature of her question. He graciously appeased her with an answer, but it was quite obvious how he felt about the question: "You mean from 1973 to 79?" She could have topped her naivety by asking about the meaning of "Hotel California."
There are no "stars" and if I could do things again, my questions would probably been more aligned to guitarists in Glen's day to the new crop (at the time Mark Knopfler, Brent Mason, Vince Gill . . .) To mine the thoughts of "stars" is as productive as nose picking
Bernie Leadon was the "real musician" and creative force in the band before Don Felder arrived. Often times Leadon, JD Souther and Jackson Browne and other players would have an impromptu jam session and would work out the bridges, transitions and general melody for Henley /Frey songs. Henley and Frey were above average support men their solo and acting and stuff they did in the eighties proves that out, to pre Hotel California Eagles fans the solo stuff is kind of embarrassing. "The heat is on, on the street Inside your head, on every beat And the beat's so loud, deep inside The pressure's high, just to stay alive 'Cause the heat is on" I mean do you believe an Eagle would write this crap or "all she wants to do is dance" I had the opportunity to see them in 1977 in Chicago and again a couple of years ago in Kansas City. While their standard classic songs are understandably preformed without the same gusto because of their age and the passage of time their new music just sucks it's like being trapped in an elevator. And Don Felder was right and Frey/Henley were wrong, that piece of S**t Alan Cranston with the Lincoln Savings and Loan scandal.
I watched the History of The eagles on cable..the full 3 hours..Henley isnt revealing any secrets, any insight into when, where, how and what Hotel Ca is about. he gives no candid info regarding inspirations, He spends no time talking about his personal side of The eagles or the songs he mainly wrote. OTOH-Glenn Frey doesnt hold anything back..he tells it like it is..or was. If Henley isn';t being candid it is the interviewers job to probe. Piss Henley off--"you;re not telling me enough".
Felder was cfo of a 3 way equal partnershp ( w/ frey and henly) called Eagles, Ltd - Meisner and Leadon surrendered their shares to gtf out. Felder started exercising his rights as equal partner and cfo - insisting on answers from the accountants, that caused the split - read 'Heaven and Hell" - Felder sued and won, LARGE. f&h and well paid sidemen (schmit and walsh are NOT partners) play the same show, note for note, every night- that's their idea of rock'n'roll - milquetoast.
he told irving Azoff proudly in the History about reuniting "irving, I am only going to do this if I make More money than the other guys (walsh,m Schmidt and Felder) and guess what Azoff did..rewrite the contract so Frey would agree lol...so YES--he changed his mind when he figured out how to make MORE money lol
Well it looks like Frey and Henley figured out a way to make even more money.I read many years ago that Frey said the Eagles would never get back together for a lost youth and greed tour. Yeah Right. What's the matter Glenn you changed your mind?
You paint the species with a pretty broad brush there. What about psychotic murderers in prison? Are they also ok because they are like "every human"? Come on. Some are worse than others in regards to how they view and treat others and Henley is one of those that fall under "worse". It's hard to find anyone that has had dealings with him that will say he's a good guy. He's not, and there is a very long list of folks that have come out and expressed as much. Even guys like Herbie Herbert said so
Henley has written some good songs. Not that many. As a musician he is good, not great. Very good band overall. He does have an attitude, ok. He and Frey of course get more because they are the original members. He has not written a great song tho in the last 20 years IMO. Of course he is on the third tier of rock royalty, behind the stones, zep,(2nd tier) and the 1st tier which only has one band..the Beatles. Right don?
I have to say Timothy B Schmit is a truly superb singer ...very underrated
Timothy still looks young at the age of 65 with long hair..
very solid..his an inspiration..I'll be like that also
when I get Old...
Who wouldnt like Timothy B Schmit. Lovely guy. Modest and highly talented...
I like Timothy B Schmit but I wish he would have been there for Don Felder when he needed a shoulder to cry on the day he'd gotten fired from the Eagles.
Totally agree he's a genuine good guy.
I wish Don H. and Glen would follow Tim's example, I thought Tim showed a lot of class at the Rock 'N Roll Hall & Fame towards Randy, I can see him being a nice, down to earth gentleman.
Doobie1975 I think we can all agree with that.

On Native Ground, you did a good job on this one.

Don Henley cracks me up, great songwriter

Eagles music forever!
I hope so. I was told the Eagles played last week in Las Vegas at Mgm, Timothy was there and played bass, but unfortunately didn't sing any songs :(
Great documentary!!
An I-net article claims it will be on On Demand for several weeks to about mid-March.
i hope they release a dvd or something because it doesnt seem to be available in europe
65? Damn...always can tell when a person is living with their heart and soul in a good place...they never look old and crabby.

Love The Eagles They seem to skip Montreal A Lot
Come On Guys One More Tour
OMG! Did he say 'world tour'? :D
It's a "red carpet" interview. Questions are fast and light.
What do you want...60 Minutes?
I have watched the documentary on Showtime about 6 times. Don Henley is so hot!
I get the feeling Henley came within *inches* of ripping that poor girl's head off. Bless her heart - she didn't know. I'm glad he kept his cool and played nice.
It's harder than it looks Deb!
How do I find the film of the eagles?

Timmy, dude, you are 65 YEARS OLD. You need to cut your hair.
Misleading title! this isn't "The History of the Eagles" documentary, just a lame interview. Truth in advertising means nothing anymore.
Well it looks like Frey and Henley figured out a way to make even more money.I read many years ago that Frey said the Eagles would never get back together for a lost youth and greed tour. Yeah Right. What's the matter Glenn you changed your mind?
